Imbuki ya kalagu yiniyo, ililola linti ili ligitanagwa idoke. Ilinti linilo, lilinogoleku noyi, kunguno, ulu guyemba unyaga, amadutu galyo gatitulanyaga, na gayiyongeja ugusanaguka. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagiganilaga giki, ‘witandula tandula kulwa lutuga lokwe:- madutu gidoke.’

Ikalagu yiniyo, igalenganijiyagwa kuli myaji, uyo abhagabhakenagulaga abhana bhakwe, kunguno ya inhungwa jakwe ijo jililabhubhi. Umyaji ng’wunuyo, agabhalekanijaga abhana bhakwe, bhabhiza na kajile kabhi, kunguno ya kikalile kakwe ako kadinilange ilya gwikala na bhanhu chiza.

Chanzo cha kitendawili hicho, chaangalia mti unaoitwa mgomba. Mtu huo, ni mlaini sana, kwa sababu, ukipulizwa na upepo, majani yake huanza kugongana, na kujiongeza kujichana chana. Ndiyo maana watu huhadithiana kwamba, ‘kujichana chana ni sababu ya wehu wake:- mgomba.’

Kitendawili hicho, chalinganishwa kwa mzazi, yule ambaye huwaharibu watoto wake, kwa sababu ya mfano mbaya wa maisha yake wanauona. Mzazi huyo, huwatelekeza watoto wake, na kuwaonesha mfano mbaya wa mwenendo wake, ambao hauna maadili ya kuishi vizuri na watu.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na wehu wa mgomba uliowachana chana watoto wake, kwa sababu naye, ametelekeza watoto wake, kwa kuonesha mfano mbaya wa maisha, ambao hauna maadili mema. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, ‘kujichana chana ni sababu ya wehu wake:- mgomba.’

Kitendawili hicho, chafundisha watu juu ya kuwa na malezi mema kwa watoto wao, ili waweze kukua wakiwa wamejengeka vizuri katika maadili ya kuwawezesha kuishi vizuri na watu, maishani mwao.

The source of this saying is a banana tree that appears to be soft and because of its softness, when the wind blows, it cuts off its branches. That is why people can say ‘he/she has cut himself/herself because of his/her craziness – banana tree’ to communicate how the softness of banana branchs makes them to swing around when the wind blows that result into them being cut into pieces.

This riddle can be compared to a parent who destroys his/her children because of the way he/she lives with other people around him/her. Such a parent can set a bad example to his/her children. It can also be compared to a person who abandons his/her children, a behaviour that demonstrates bad parenting system to his/her children.

This saying teaches people about caring for their children so that they can grow up to be well-grounded in values ​​that enable them to live well with people in their lives.

Yeye huwafundisha wenzake historia hiyo, ili waweze kuwaelewa ndugu zao. Wale wanaomsikiliza, huweza kuzifahamu vizuri koo zao, maishani mwao. Ndiyo maana watu huhadithiana kwamba, ‘kaka yangu ana viuno vingi:- muwa.’

Kitendawili hicho, hufundisha watu juu ya kuzielewa historia za koo zao, ili waweze kufahamiana vizuri, maishani mwao, kwa sababu watu huwa wana vizazi vingi mno.

MY BROTHER HAS MANY WAISTS:- SUGARCANE.

The source of this riddle is sugarcane and its joints. Sugarcanes have so many joints that look like waists. Those sugarcane joints are being compared to waists. That is why people came up with a riddle that describes the structure of sugarcane in comparison to waists by riddling that ‘my brother has many waists – sugarcane.’

This saying can be compared to a person who understands his/her family history. That person understands well his/her parent’s history and that of his parents’ parents. He/she can teach history to his/her colleagues so that they can understand their past in terms of family geneology.

This saying teaches people about understanding their family history so that they can get to know each other better in their lives. This comes because people have so many generations that are inter-connected and sometimes cannot be easy to know them.

Akahayile kenako, kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo alina nhani, umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, ali nambu uyo adazunyaga ya bhiye, kunguno ya nhani jakwe jinijo. Uweyi agamanaga ulema duhu ya bhiye.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agalenganijiyagwa ni igosha lya nhululu, kunguno nang’hwe alina nhani, ijagwimana weyi duhu. Nuweyi ali nanhinda ijo jigang’wenhelejaga guyuilema imihayo iyabhiye. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’witanaga giki, ‘igosha lya nhululu.’

Mtu huyo, hulinganishwa na mwamume mwenye kiburi, kwa sababu naye ana kiburi cha kujijali yeye mwenyewe tu. Kiburi hicho, humpelekea kukataa kila anachoambiwa na wenzake. Ndiyo maana watu humwita kwamba, yeye ni ‘mwanamume mwenye kiburi.’

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha kuwa na kiburi maishani mwao, ili waweze kuishi vizuri na wenzao, katika maisha yao.

The source of this saying is an rrogant man who walks around pretending to know everything in his society. This man does not accept advice or any opinion from other individuals because of his arrogance. Such a person can be described as ‘an arrogant man’, as the saying shows.

The saying can be compared to a person who answers people’s queries shortly with no respect. He is arrogant, greedy and over-confident. He is someone who does not accept other people’s views with no reason for refusing them.

The saying teaches people about not being arrogant rather respecting others in the sameway one respects himself/herself.

The source of the saying looks at the urgency of working fast. This urgency comes because of how something has to be done within a given time/short period of time. A person who does his/her work slowly can be encouraged to do it fast so as to get rid of it as early as possible. This is why people can encourage others by using this saying that ‘do it quickly.’

The saying can be compared to a person who encourages his/her people to work fast in doing something. This person knows better how to best take care of the family and therefore encouraging others to be fast in their doings in order to have success in the family within a very short period of time.

The saying teaches people about how to do their job well and with great effort so that they can finish it early. This can enable them to have more success in their lives.
