457. NG’HWAJA NG’HULYA AGALYA HA NSALE GUDI GOKWE.

Imbuki ya lusumo lunulo, yilolile bhuli bho ng’wa ng’hwaja, muchalo ijo jidi jakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo olinyungi ogumana uja mumakaya ga muchalo umo oyungilaga.

Umo mubhuyungi bhokwe bhunubho, nose agalya ng’wigunguli ilo lidi lyakwe. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘Ng’hwaja ng’hulya agalya ha nsale gudi gokwe.’

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo ali nshiya, nulu ng’wibhi. Umunhu ng’wunuyo agalenganijiyagwa na Ng’hwaja ung’hulya, uyo agalya higunguli ilo lidi lyakwe, kunguno nang’hwe agalyaga ijo jidi jakwe. Chanzo cha methali hiyo chaangalia ulaji wa Ng’hwaja kwenye kijiji ambacho siyo chake. Mtu huyo alikuwa mzururaji ambaye alikuwa anakwenda kula kwenye miji ya watu vijijini.

Mwishowe, alikula kwenye kijiji kisichokuwa chake katika uzururaji wake huo. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘Ng’hwaja mzururaji alikula kwenye kijiji kisichokuwa chakwe.’

Methali hiyo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye ni mzinzi, au mwizi. Mtu huyo hulinganishwa na Ng’hwaja mzururaji aliyekula  kwenye kitongoji kisichokuwa chake, kwa sababu naye huyo, hula visivyokuwa vyake. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘Ng’hwaja mzururaji alikula kwenye kijiji kisichokuwa chakwe.’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha tabia za uzinzi na wizi, ili waweze kuishi vizuri na watu wao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: NG’HWAJA, THE WANDERER ATE AT THE VELLAGE THAT WAS NOT HIS.

The source of the proverb looks at Ng’waja’s wandering behaviour that made him develop behaviour of eating food in a village far from his home. Such a wanderer is being described in this proverb as someone who eats food far from his home village.

This proverb can be likened to an adulterous person or a thief. These are people who take other peoples’ belongings without their permissions. Such people with this undesirable behaviour are being warned using this proverb that ‘Ng’hwaja, the wanderer ate at the vellage that was not his.’

The proverb teaches people to break free from sexual immorality and theft. This will help people to have a very peaceful society.

456. BHUZENGWANWA BHUGIDAHULILAGA MAKUBI.

Abhanbhu bhenabho bhagigunanaga bho gwidahulila makubhi genayo, kunguno bhitogilwe. Hunagwene ulubhalilomba ginhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘bhuzenganwa bhugidahulilaga makubhi.’

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kubhanhu abho bhitogilwe umuwikaji bhobho. Abhanhu bhenabho bhagigunanaga bho gwiinha ginhu ijo umo obho ojigayiyagwa.

Abhoyi bhagalenganijiyagwa na bhuzenganwa ubho bhugidahulilaga makubhi, kunguno nabho bhagigunanaga bhuli ng’wene, uyo ugayiyagwa nulu jiliwa, abhiye bhadulile gung’winha. Hunagwene abhanhu bhenabho, bhagayombaga giki, ‘bhuzenganwa bhugidahulilaga makubhi.’

KISWAHILI: UJIRANI HUCHOTEANA MBOGA.

Chanzo cha methali hiyo chatokea kwenye maisha ya majirani wanaosaidiana, kwa kuchoteana mboga. Watu hao husaidiana kwa namna hiyo, kwa yule aliyekosa, ambaye huenda kuomba kwa majirani.

Wao hufanya hivyo kwa sababu ya upendo walio nao kwa kila mmoja wao. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘majirani huchoteana mboga.’

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa watu, wale wanaopendana maishani mwao. Watu hao husaidiana kwa kupeana vitu mbalimbali, ambavyo mmoja wao ameishiwa.

Wao hulinganishwa na majirani ambao huchoteana mboga, kwa sababu nao husaidiana kila mmoja anayeishiwa vitu kama vila chukula, ambaye hupewa na wenzake anaowaomba. Ndiyo maana watu huwaambia kwamba, ‘majirani huchoteana mboga.’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na upendo wa kusaidiana kila mmoja anayeishiwa kitu fulani, ili wote waweze kuishi kwa furaha, maishi mwao.

The source of this proverb comes from the lives of neighbours who help one another by sharing vegetables. These people help each other in that way. These neighbours if one of them lacks something can easily ask her/his neighbour for a help. They do this because of love they have for each other. That is why people say, ‘neighbours share vegetables’ to mean intimacy among people in the vicinity.

The proverb can be compared to people; those who love each other in their lives. These people help each other by providing various items.

They are compared to neighbours who, when run out of groceries, can ask neighbours for a helping hand.

The proverb teaches people about loving each other. This can make people live a happily life.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo oliadajaga ukuli masaginghi ng’wiye. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘makunja adajaga ng’wa masaginghi ng’wiye.’

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo adebhile igiki, bhuli ginhu jili na jimile jajo. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agalenganijiyagwa na makunja uyo adajaga ng’wa masaginghi ng’wiye, kunguno nanghwe agajisomelaga iginhu giti numo jili, umujimile jajo.

Uweyi agikalaga akadimilile akajile kakwe kenako, guti nu makunja umo oliakadimililile akajile kakwe. Adajigaluchaga iginhu jinijo, kugiki jifade akimile kakwe uweyi, agajilekaga numo jili. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’witanaga, ‘makunja adajaga ng’wa masaginghi ng’wine.’

Mtu huyo alikuwa haendi kwa masaginghi mwenzake, kwa maana ya kuiacha namna yake yakuishi, iliyompatia mafanikio mengi maishani mwake. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘makunja haendi kwa masaginghi mwenzake.’

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule anayeelewa kwamba, kila kitu kina asili yake. Mtu huyo hulinganishwa na makunja asiyeenda kwa masaginghi mwenzake, kwa sababu naye huvisoma vitu hivyo katika asili yake, ili aweze kuuelewa ukweli wa vitu hivyo.

Yeye huwa havibadilishi vitu hivyo, vifuate alivyo yeye, bali huviacha vibaki vilivyo. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia mtu huyo kwamba, ‘makunja haendi kwa masaginghi mwenzake.’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na uhuru wa kuvitumia vizuri vipaji vyao, ili waweze kupata mafanikio mengi maishani mwao.

The source of this proverb looks at Makunja’s unique life style. He did not want to change his style of life and people labelled him (Masaginghi) a special person. This kind of life made him a successful person. This is why people can use the proverb ‘Makunja does not go to his fellow Masaginghi’ to communicate how one with success in life cannot easily give up in struggle for fear of losing his/her richness.

The proverb can be compared to a person who understands that everything has its origin. Such a person is compared to Makunja who do not go to fellow Masaginghi because he can read by himself and be able to understand the world in its natural state.

The proverb teaches people about the freedom to make the best use of their talents. This can make one have the best kind of life determined by him/her.

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo aling’wiming’holo, umubhusuluja bhokwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo agabhajimbaga abhanhu abho agabhajingijjga.

Uweyi agalenganijiyagwa na munhu uyo oyichemba ingele yakwe, kunguno, nanghwe abhagapunjaga abhaguji bha jikolo jakwe, bho nyashilimu. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga giki, ‘wichemba ingele wanijimba.’

Chanzo cha methali hiyo chaangalia ukataji wa kipimo anachokitumia mtu katika biashara yake, kwa lengo la kuwapunja wateja wake.

Mtu akikikata kipimo chake hicho cha kufanyia biashara yake, atawapunja wale wanaonunua vitu vyake. Ndiyo maana watu hao wakigundua kwamba anawapunja kwa sababu ya kukipunguza kipimo chake, humwambia kwamba, ‘ulikikata kipimo umenipunja.’

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye ni mchoyo katika uendeshaji wa biashara zake. Mtu huyo huwapunja wale anaowauzia vitu vyake, kwa kutumia ujanja wa namna mbalimbali.

Yeye hulinganishwa na mtu aliyekikata kipimo chake cha kufanyia biashara, kwa sababu, naye hutumia ujanja wa kuwapunja wale wanaonunua vitu vyake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, ‘ulikikata kipimo umenipunja.’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha tabia za uchoyo wa kuwapunja watu katika biashara zao, ili waache kuwadhulumu wateja wao.

ENGLISH: YOU HAVE CUT THE SCALE; YOU HAVE GIVEN ME LITTLE.

The source of this saying is the use of scale in business activities. A business person can cut his/her measuring scale in order to generate more profit in his/her business. If some one does so, he/she is likely to chase his/her customers and therefore destructing his/her own business. He/she can be accused of stealing from customers.

This saying can be compared to a person who is greedy in running his/her business. The person manipulates the goods he or she sells using a variety of tactics.

He/she is compared to a person who dismisses his/her business through fooling his/her customers.

The saying teaches people to stop being greed rather stick to principles of trustworthy that can enable them live better with others in the society.

Imbuki ya kahayile kenako yingilile kubhuzugi bho walwa ubho bhudapile. Ulu walwa bhuzuga, aliyo bhukija ugupya chiza, ilihumbi lyabho lidashokejiyagwa. Gashinaga lulu, ibhelelile bhuzugwe bhungi uwalwa bhunubho. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘kwilungu bhadajaga lwa kabhili.’

Akahayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agitaga mihayo, nulu milimo yakwe, bho nduhu ugwita bhukengeji bho gudula gung’wambilija uguimala chiza.

Uweyi agitimbukilagwa wandyaga nimo, nulu mhayo, bho nduhu ugugamana amakoye ayo gadulile gwilonga, umunimo, nulu mhayo gunuyo. Hunagwene abhanhu, ulu gigela makoye umunimo gokwe, bhagayomgaga giki, ‘kwilungu bhadajaga lwa kabhili.’

Akahayile kenako, kalanga bhanhu higulya ya gwita bhukengeji bho milimo yabho chiza, haho bhatali ugwitumama, kugiki bhadule ugugiliga amakoye ayo gakomile gwigela, umubhutumami bho milimo yabho.

Chanzo cha msemo huo chatokea kwenye upikaji wa pombe ambayo haijaiva. Pombe ikipikwa ikakosewa kupikwa ikawa haijaiva vizuri, hairudiwi kupikwa tena. Kumbe basi, yafaa ipikwe pombe nyingine. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘mpiko wa pombe ya kienyeji haurudiwi mara ya pili.’

Msemo huo hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule, ambaye hufanya kazi zake bila kufanya utafiti wa kumwezesha kuzimaliza vizuri.

Mtu huyo, hufanya kazi zake kwa kukurupuka, bila kuangalia kwanza matatizo ambayo, yaweza kutokea kwenye kazi hiyo, ili kuzifahamu njia za kuyatatulia.

Ndiyo maana akitapata matatizo kwenye kazi anayoifahanya mtu huyo, watu husema kwamba, ‘mpiko wa pombe ya kienyeji haurudiwi mara ya pili.’

Msemo huo hufundisha watu juu ya kufanya utafiti wa kazi wanazotaka kuzifanya, kabla ya kuzianza, ili waweze kuyakwepa matatizo ambayo yanaweza kutokea kwenye kazi hizo.

The source of the saying comes from half-cooked local brew. If a cook hasn’t cooked properly her local brew, there is no possibility of orrecting the mistake. The solution is to cook another brew. This is why people say ‘the cooking of the traditional beer is not repeated’.

The saying can be compared to a person who performs his/her tasks without doing research that can enable him/her to finish it properly. Such people perform their tasks without first looking at problems that may arise and find ways to resolve them.

The saying teaches people about researching before engaging in actual performance of tasks one wants to do. This can help them to avoid problems in future.
