Ikalagu yiniyo, igalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo, adabhudimilaga chiza ubhung’hana, umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agalondejaga akikalile kabhanhu abho alabhasange, kugiki adule gupandika jiliwa, umukikalile kakwe, guti ni b’ambu umo igikolelaga naho yimilaga.

Uweyi agab’ib’isaga abhanhu abho bhamhanile, bho gwigalucha umili gokwe, kugiki abho bhamanile bhanjimilwe, nabho obhasangaga bhahaye giki aling’wichabho. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagiganilaga giki, ‘kasab’i ka kakelule:- Kab’ambu.’

Chanzo cha kitendawili hicho, chaamwangalia Kinyonga. Kinyonga ni kiumbe wa kuashangaza kabisa, kwa sababu ya kujigeuze geuza mwili wake kila anapoenda, ili uweze kufanana na rangi ya pale alipo. Mwenyewe ana utajiri wa rangi wa kujifananisha na rangi ya pale alipo simama. Ndiyo maana watu huhadithiana kwamba, ‘tajiri wa rangi:- Kinyonga.’

Kitendawili hicho, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye haushikilii vizuri ukweli katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, hufuata mkumbo wa kufanana na wale anaowakuta kila aendapo, ili aweze kupata chakula, katika maisha yake, kama kinyonga afananavyo na rangi ya pale aliposimama.

Yeye hujificha kwa watu wanaomfahamu kwa kujibadili tabia yake, ili wanaomfahamu wasimtambue, na wale anaowakuta, wamfikirie kwamba yeye ni mwenzao. Ndiyo maana watu huhadithiana kwamba, ‘tajiri wa rangi:- Kinyonga.’

Kitendawili hicho, hufundisha watu juu ya kuishikilia vizuri njia ya kumfuata Yesu Kristo, kwa kuyaishi maagizo yake, bila kubadilika kama kinyonga, ili waweze kufika kwenye uzima wa milele.

ENGLISH: I HAVE A RIDDLE – LET IT COME.

HE IS RICH IN COLOURS – CHAMELEON.

The source of this riddle is a reptile by the name of chameleon. Chameleon is a very strange reptile because it is capable of changing colours according to the environment it is in. It is an organism that is assumed to be rich in colours. This habit of chameleon of having different colours made people to come up with their riddle that ‘He is rich in colours – chameleon’ in order to justify the power of chameleon to change its colours according to different environment.

This riddle can be compared to a person who does not hold the truth in his/her life. This person tends to change over time as he/she encounters different environment and different people. The aim of this person to do so might be seeking acceptance from different people and environment. Such people can tend to hide themselves from other people who know them by adjusting their behaviours.

This riddle teaches people to follow Jesus Christ by living His commandments. People should not change their ways in their efforts to abide by God’s commandments. In so doing, they will be able to enter the God’s Kingdom.

Chanzo cha kitendawili hicho, chaangalia kiumbe anayeitwa Kobe. Kobe huyo, ni kiumbe mwenye gamba gumu kabisa mgongoni mwake, ambalo humkinga na hatari mbalimbali. Hivyo basi, yeye ikinyesha mvua hukirudisha kichwa chake kwenye gamba hilo. Ndiyo maana watu huhadithiana kwamba, ‘mganga maarufu anatembea na nyumba yake mgongoni:- Kobe.’

Kitendawili hicho, hulinganishwa kwa Yesu Kristo ambaye ni Mganga Maarufu. Yesu anao uwezo wa kuwaponya watu wanaomwamini katika maisha yao. Watu hao, huponyeshwa kwenye matatizo  na Yesu kwa sababu Yeye anauwezo wa kuwaondolea watu dhambi zao.

Watu hao, hutembea wakiwa wanamtumaini yeye katika maisha yao, kwa sababu ya wao kuungana naye Katika maisha yao kwa njia ya ubatizo. Ndiyo maana wao huhadithiana kwamba, ‘mganga maarufu anatembea na nyumba yake mgongoni:- Kobe.’

Kitendawili hicho, hufundisha watu juu ya kumwamini Yesu Kristo, kwa kubatizwa na kuyaishi maagizo yake, maishani mwao, ili yeye awaokea kwenye maisha ya kupotea na kuwapatia maisha ya uzima wa milele mbinguni.

THE FAMOUS TRADITIONAL HEALER WALKS WITH HIS HOUSE ON HIS BACK – TORTOISE.

The source of this riddle is the creature by the name of tortoise. The tortoise has a hard shell on its back that protects it from various dangers. So when it senses some danger it retracts its head and hides it. That is why people say ‘the famous traditional healer walks with his house on his back – tortoise’ to communicate the behaviour of tortoise.

This riddle can be compared to Jesus Christ, the Great Physician. Jesus has the power to heal those who believe in Him. Jesus has the power to take away their sins. Having trust in Jesus makes people have relief in their lives because they are served by Him through baptism.

This riddle teaches people about believing in Jesus Christ by being baptized and living God’s commandments.

Chanzo cha methali hiyo, chatokea kwenye hali ya kuandaliwa kaburi kwa kutumia majembe. Kuezekewa majembe au kutamdikwa chini, ni kuzikwa kwa kutumia majembe. Tangu zamani akifariki mtu watu hutumia majembe kuchimba kaburi na kutandika chini kwenye kaburi lake, ndipo wanamuweka ndani yake. Ndiyo maana watu waliita hali hiyo kwamba ni ‘kuezekewa majembe/kutandikiwa chini.’

Methali hiyo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye huwajali vizuri watu waliofariki. Mtu huyo, huenda kuwazika wenzake hao walioaga dunia mara asikiapo utaratibu wa maziko yao.

Yeye ni mfano wa kuigwa na wenzake kwa kuwa  na huruma ya kuwazika wafu. Mtu huyo, huwahimiza pia wenzake kwa njia ya maisha yake, kwenda kuandaa kaburi na kushiriki kwa ukamilifu katika maziko hayo ya wafu wao na wa wenzao. Ndiyo maana yeye huwafundisha watu juu ya ‘kuezekewa majembe/kutandikiwa chini.’

Methali hiyo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na huruma ya kuwajali wafu kwa kuwazika vizuri, katika maisha yao, ili waweze kuishi vizuri na wenzao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: TO BE DUG WITH HOES.

The source of this saying is burial ceremony. During burial, hoes are always used as weapons for digging the grave and after the digging comes mats that are spead in the grave for the dead body to lie on. To communicate this scenario, people came with this saying that ‘To be dug with hoes’ to mean the whole process from preparing the grave to lying down of the dead body.

This saying can be compared to people who care for the dead. Such people would like to offer decent burial to their beloved ones. They also teach others about attending other people’s burials.

 This saying teaches people about compassion and caring for the dead. Dead people need to have decent burials.

Chanzo cha msemo huo, chaangalia uchezaji wa kwenye baharí. Bahari hiyo, ni kubwa sana kiasi kwamba mtu akiwa anaoga anaweza kudhani kuwa ni yeye peke yake, anayeelewa kuogolea kupita wengine. Ndiyo kusema kwamba, ndani ya baharí hiyo, kuna viumbe wengi mno. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘anayecheka baharini kumbe na wengine wapo.’

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hutegemea akili au nguvu zake peke yake. Mtu huyo, hafahamu kwamba, kuna wengine wenye akili na nguvu nyingi kupita yeye, ambao wana uwezo wa kumsaidia.

Yeye hufanana na muogeleaji anayejidai kwamba ni fundi wa kuogelea kupita wengine, kwa sababu naye hutegemea akili zake tu au nguvu zake tu, katika maisha yake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, ‘anayecheka baharini kumbe na wengine wapo.’

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa pamoja na wenzao katika utekelezaji wa majukumu yao, ili waweze kupata mafanikio mengi zaidi katika maisha yao. Yafaa watu hao, waache tabia ya kutegemea akili au nguvu zao tu, katika maisha yao, bila kushirikiana na wenzao.

ENGLISH: THE ONE PLAYING AT THE SEA WHILE OTHERS ARE THERE TOO.

The source of this saying is swimming in the sea. A sea being a big water body, one swimming from one end of it will think that he/she is the only one who knows to swim. He/she doesn’t know that in the sea there are numerous creatures whose life is always in water and therefore, for them, swimming is a daily activity. To describe this scenario, people came with the saying that ‘The one playing at the sea while others are there too’ to communicate someone’s ignorance about the world around him/her.

This saying can be compared to a person who knows less about the world around him/her. Instead, he/she constructs the world based on only what he/she can see. This person can be likened to a swimmer who claims to be the best swimmer because he/she relies on his/her intelligence without thinking about others who might be better at swimming than him/her.

The saying teaches people about being open to learn from others. People should be able to seek for more knowledge from peers before they come to conclusion about certain issues.

Ijoyi jigasimbilagwa bho guhelelwa na gatunganyiwa, jawiza guti bhanhu bhitongekaga, kugiki jidule ugiulanghana chiza inumba. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagiganilaga giki, ‘mabehi gitongekaga:- ng’hingi.’

Ikalagu yiniyo, igalenganijiyagwa kubhanhu abho bhali na ng’wigwano goguyilang’hana chiza ikaya yao. Zenyewe huwa zinachimbiwa kwa kufuata msitari na kushikamanishwa kwa kufungwa pamoja, zikawa kama jamaa waliotangulizana, ili ziweze kusaidiana katika kuilinda vizuri nyumba hiyo. Ndiyo maana watu huhadithiana kwamba, ‘jamaa wametangulizana:- nguzo.’

Kitendawili hicho, hulinganishwa kwa watu wale ambao wana uelewano wa kuilinda vizuri familia yao. Watu hao, huishi kwa ushirikiano wa kupanga mipango ya kuwawezesha kuindeleza kwa kuilinda vizuri familia yao hiyo. Upendo wao, huwapatia nguvu za kuyatekeleza majukumu yao, kwa kusaidiana pamoja katika uelewano wao.

Watu hao, huilinda familia yao, kama zile nguzo zinavyoilinda nyumba hiyo, kwa sababu nao wana ushirikiano wa kusaidiana kwa kuyatekeleza majukumu yao, kwa pamoja. Ndiyo maana watu hao huhadithiana kwamba, ‘jamaa wametangulizana:- nguzo.’

GENTLEMEN HAVE PRECEDED ONE ANOTHER – POLES.

The source of this riddle is the pattern of poles used in constructing a house. Poles are trees one can cut and arrange them in a manner that makes them make a house for one to stay in. They are always arranged in a certain pattern and tightened together with strings or nails so that they offer enough support for the house to appear in a good structure. This proper patterning of poles made people to come up with this riddle ‘Gendlemen have preceded one another – poles’ to communicate the way poles appear in making the house have a good structure.

This riddle can becompared to those people who work together in making sure that their families are taken care of. These people tend to formulate their plans together and implement them in a manner that enables them to have success in their families. As the poles protect the house and give shape of the house, these people function as pillars of strength and solidarity in the society.

This riddle teaches people about harmony and helping each other in fulfilling their responsibilities.
