299. NSAB´I ADANHAMHALAGA

Imbuki ya lusumo lunulo ingilile kusabho. Isabho ulu jukwila ukulimunhu jidulile gungalukija amiganiko gakwe gubhuza guti ga nyanda, aliyo uweyi alinhamhala.

Umunhu ung´wunuyo adulile gujitumila isabho jakwe bho gubhogubhagula abho bhadinajo obhenha ha ng´wakwe, uikala nabho, aliyo abhoyi bhali bhana ukuliweyi, kunguno alinamhala ukubhoyi. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ´nsab´i adanamhalaga.

KISWAHILI: TAJIRI HAZEEKI

Chanzo cha methali hiyo chatokea kwenye wingi wa mali. Mali hizo zikiwa nyingi kwa mtu, huweza kumbadilishia mawazo, akawa anafikiri kama vile bado kijana, na wakati yeye ni mzee.

Mtu huyo huweza hata kutumia mali zake hizo kwa kuwanunua wale ambao hawana mali hizo, au maskini, kwa kuwaleta kwake na kuishi nao nyumbani kwake, ambao waweza kuwa watoto wake kiumri. Mtu huyo huyafanya hayo kwa sababu ya mali alizonazo. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ´tajiri hazeeki.´

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa mtu ambaye ni tajiri atumiae mali zake kwa kutekeleza yale atakayo yeye. Mtu huyo huamua kufanya chochote kile, hata kumuoa msichana wakati yeye ni mzee, kwa sababu ya mali zake hizo. Hivyo, yeye hutumia mali zake hovyo. Ndiyo maana yeye hujitapa kwa kusema kwamba, ´tajiri hazeeki.´

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kuzitumia mali zao vizuri, ili waweze kutunza heshima yao vizuri, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: RICH PEOPLE NEVER GROW OLD

This saying emanates from a wealthy person’s life. When a person is rich, the wealth can change the way he/she thinks. He/she may think like a teenager while he/she is old. This is why people often say, “rich people never grow old.”

The rich person may use his/her wealth to make poor people his/her slaves.The person does this because of the wealth he/she has. That is why people say, “rich people never grow old.”

The proverb is likened to a rich person who uses his wealth to do whatever he/she wants. Such a rich person, if he is a man, may even decide to marry a young girl in his old age. Thus, he misuses his wealth. Accordingly, he may boast himself by saying, “rich people never grow old.”

The proverb teaches people to use their wealth wisely so that they can maintain their dignity in their lives.

298. LUTAMBI LUPYA IMALA MAGUTA

Imbuki ya lusumo lunulo ingilile kulutambi ulo lutali lupya. Ulutambi lunulo lugasolaga maguta mingi agagudula guibhacha ikolobhoi. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘lutambi lupya imala maguta.’

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo alindimu ugwitegeleja imihayo iyo aliwilwa na bhiye. Ugushiga agadule gwitegeleja umunhu ng’wunuyo, agub’iza omalaga mihayo mingi noyi unomeji okwe, aliyo uweyi agabhizaga ndimu duhu ugwelelwa. Hukwene guhaya giki, unomeji okwe agumala mihayo yakwe duhu, bho nduhu uweyi ugwitegeleja. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga, umunhu ng’wunuyo, giki, ‘lutambi lupya imala maguta.’

Ulusumo lunulo lolanga bhanhu higulya ya gubhiza na witegeleja bho gudula guidebha chiza imihayo iyo ilihawiza na bhichabho, na guitumamila iyo iliyawiza, umuwikaji bhobho.

KISWAHILI: UTAMBI MPYA HUMALIZA MAFUTA

Chanzo cha methali hiyo chatokea kwenye hali ya utambi mpya. Utambi huo huchukua mafuta mengi ya kutosha kuiwezesha taa kuwaka. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘utambi mpya humaliza mafuta.’

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa mtu ambaye ni mgumu wa kuelewa kile anachoambiwa na wenzake. Mtu huyo humfanya yule anayemwelewesha amalize maneno mengi, bila kuelewa. Mweleweshaji wake huyo, humaliza maneno mengi bila kumwezesha mtu huyo kuelewa, kile anachomwambia. Ndio maana watu humwambia mtu huyo, kwamba, ‘utambi mpya humaliza mafuta.’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na umakini wa kuelewa mapema kile wanachoelezwa na wenzao, na kukifanyia kazi kile kilicho chema katika kuwaletea maendeleo, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: A NEW WICK USES A LOT OF KEROSINE

The above proverb stems from a situation of a new wick.The new wick uses a lot of kerosine to keep the light on. This makes people to say, “a new wick uses a lot of kerosine.”

The proverb is used to refer to someone who does not understand what is being told by his/her companion. Such a person makes whoever is explaining something to him/her to use a lot words in vain.That is why people tell such people that, “a new wick uses a lot of kerosine.”

The proverb teaches people to listen and understand what they are told by their companions and use whaever it is good to bring progress to their lives.

297. NGOKOLO IGAMALA MHANGA

Imbuki ya lusumo lunulo ingilile kuntugo, uyo gokula, nulu gusadu. Untugo gunuyo gugakondaga kunguno ya sada, nulu bhukuji. Gugabhizaga guti giki, gulibihi gucha. Aliyo lulu, jigamanaga jucha ni mhanga duhu, yalekwa ingokolo yiniyo, nose jigashilaga gucha imhanga jinijo, yalekwa bhung’wene. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘ngokolo igamala mhanga.’

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kubhanhu abho bhalibhasadu, nulu abho bhakula, guti bhananhala na bhagikulu, abho bhagabhizaga bhalebh’u, aliyo bhagalekagwa na bhapanga. B’agamanaga bhucha na bhapanga, walekwa abhasadu na bhakuji bhenabho. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘ngokolo igamala mhanga.’

Ulusumo lunulo lolanga bhanhu higulya ya gubhalanhana chiza abhanamhala na bhagikulu bha muchalo jabho, kugiki bhadule gwikala na bhuyegi, umuwikaji bhobho, mpaga aho Mulungu alab’itanile.

KISWAHILI: DHAIFU ILIMALIZA WAZIMA

Chanzo cha methali hiyo chatokea kwenye mfugo uliozeeka kwa sababu ya ugonjwa au amri. Mfugo huo, hukonda kwa sababu ya ugonjwa huo au umri wake kuwa mkubwa. Huwa kama unataka kufa. Lakini badala yake, mifugo yenye afya njema hufa na kuiacha hai hiyo iliyodhaifu. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘dhaifu ilimaliza wazima.’

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa watu waliowagonjwa au wale waliozeeka, waonekanao kama ni dhaifu, lakini hufa wenye afya njema na kubakia wao. Wenye afya hundelea kufa na kuwaacha wakiwa hai, hao waliogonjwa na wazee. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘dhaifu ilimaliza wazima.’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kuwatunza vizuri wazee walionao katika jamii yao, ili waweze kuishi kwa furaha maishani mwao, hadi Mungu atakapowaita.

ENGLISH: STRONG ONES DIED BEFORE WEAK ONES

The proverb above comes from an old or sick animal.The old or sick animal usually becomes thin and weak because of disease or old age. This animal looks almost dead. But the healthy and strong animals keep on dying leaving behind the sick or old ones.This makes people to say, “Strong ones died before the weak ones.”

The proverb is compared to the sick or elderly people who appear to be weak, but the healthy people are the ones who die and leave behind the weak and elderly people. Healthy people continue to die and leave the weak and the elderly people alive. That is why people say, “Strong ones die before the weak ones.”

The proverb teaches people to take good care of the weak and the elderly in their communities so that they can live happily until God takes them.

296. NG’HANGA MALAB’A ADAMALAGA B’IZA

Imbuki ya lusumo lunulo ingilile kujilangu ja gwikumbwa kub’iza na najo bhuli jene ijo jililab’a. Ijililab’a jinijo jilolecha ginhu jawiza. Ulu jigela jawiza, uweyi uojilangu jinijo, ojisola nijene, kunguno ahayile ajipandike uweyi bhuli jene ijo jilijawiza. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘ng’hanga malab’a adamalaga b’iza.’

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo alinajilangu ja kubhona bhuli ng’wene uyo aliowiza, ohaya ab’ize okwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo agamonaga bhuli ng’wene ontogwa na gung’wila giki bhitole, kunguno ya jilangu jakwe jinijo, ijagung’wila gwitola bhuli ng’wene uyo aliowiza. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga, umunhu ng’wunuyo, giki, ‘ng’hanga malab’a adamalaga b’iza.’

KISWAHILI: MWENYE TAMAA HAMALIZI WAZURI

Chanzo cha methali hiyo chatokea kwenye tamaa ya kutaka kuwa nacho kila kile, kimelemetacho machoni pake. Kimelemetacho hicho, huonesha kitu kilicho kizuri. Akikiona popote pale mwenye tamaa hiyo, hutaka kukichukua, kwa sababu ya kutaka kwake kukimiliki, kila kilichokizuri machoni pake. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘mwenye tamaa hamalizi wazuri.’

Methali hiyo hulinnganishwa kwa mtu yule aliye na tamaa ya kutaka awe naye kila amuonaye kuwa ni mzuri. Mtu huyo humpenda kila amuonaye na kumtaka waoane, kwa sababu ya tamaa yake ya kutaka kuoana na kila aliye mzuri. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia mtu huyo kwamba, ‘mwenye tamaa hamalizi wazuri.’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na uaminifu katika ndoa, kwa kuacha tamaa ya kutaka kuwa pamoja naye kila aliye mzuri. Uaminifu huo utawasaidia watu hao, katika kuishi kwa amani kwenye ndoa zao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: A LUSTFUL PERSON CANNOT FINISH THE BEAUTIFUL ONES

The proverb stems from a person with a desire to own everything beautiful. Wherever such a person sees a beautiful woman, he wants to have her. That is why people say, “A lustful person cannot finish the beautiful ones.”

The proverb is tailored to a person who desires to have every beautiful woman. Such a person loves every woman he meets and wants to marry her because of his desire to marry every beautiful woman. So, people use the proverb to warn such type of persons.

This proverb teaches people about trust by giving up the desire of being with every beautiful woman. Being faithful will help these people to live peacefully in their marriage.

295. MINZI GA KULE GADAMALAGA NOTA

Imbuki ya lusumo lunulo ingilile kubhuchoji bho mingi, bho abhanhu abho bhali nikoye lya nota, umuchalo jabho. Aminzi genayo galikule nuko bhalib’azengile. Bhamanaga bhugajila aminzi genayo, bhagiza b’agang’wa, inota yabho yaduma ugushira. Ulu bhagajila hangi aminzi genayo, ikikule uko gigelelaga, inota yasangagwa yakulaga hangi, b’iza bhaduma uguimala.

Nose abhanhu bhenabho bhugumana igiki, aminzi genayo gaduimala inota yabho, kunguno galikule noyi. Bhagiyangula guchola nzila ja gugegeleja aminzi genayo, huna bhuyimala inota yabho yiniyo.  Gashinaga guligong’hana igiki, ‘mingi ga kule gadamalaga nota.’

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agikalaga ukob’eleja jikolo, nulu sabho ja gufumila kubhanhu bhangi, bho nduhu ugutumama imilimo, iyo ayidulile. Umunhu ng’wunuyo adagamalaga amakoye ahakaya yakwe. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga giki, ‘minzi ga kule gadamalaga nota.’

KISWAHILI: MAJI YA MBALI HAYAMALIZI KIU

Chanzo cha methali hiyo chatokea kwenye utafutaji wa maji, wa watu ambao walikumbwa na tatizo hilo kwenye kijiji chao. Maji hayo yalipatikana mbali na kule walikokuwa wakiishi watu hao. Walikuwa wakiyafuata mara nyingi mpaka kule mbali yaliko, wanayaleta na kuyanywa. Lakini yalikuwa hayaimalizi kiu yao kwa sababu ya kutumia mda mrefu katika kuyafuata kutoka kule mbali yalikopatikana.

Mwishowe waligundua kwamba, maji hayo ya mbali hayawezi kuimaliza kiu yao. Waliamua kutafuta njia za kuyaleta maji hayo kwenye kijiji chao, ndipo walipofaulu kuimaliza kiu yao. Kumbe ni kweli kwamba, ‘maji ya mbali hayamalizi kiu.’

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa mtu ambaye huishi kwa kutafutiza vitu, au mali kutoka kwa watu wengine, bila kufanya kazi, hata zile anazoziweza. Mtu huyo hubaki akisumbuliwa na matatizo mengi kwenye familia yakwe. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia, mtu huyo, kwamba, ‘maji ya mbali hayamalizi kiu.’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kuzifanya kazi zile waziwezazo ili waweze kupata mali za kuwasaidia katika kutatua matatizo yao, maishani mwao, kwa sababu, ‘maji ya mbali hayamalizi kiu.’

ENGLISH: DISTANT WATER DOES NOT QUENCH THIRST

The proverb comes from the story of people who experienced scarcity of water in their village. These people got water from a distant village.Since the water was found far from their village, they frequently used to fetch drinking water.However, such water did not quench their thirst because they did not fetch enough of it, and they walked for several hours to fetch water.

In the end, they realized that distant water would not quench their thirst. They decided to find ways to bring the water to their village.Then they succeeded to quench their thirst.Therefore, it is true that “distant water does not quench thirst.”

The proverb is compared to a person who does not work and lives by begging things from other people. Such a person and his/her family are likely to remain in problems.That is why people tell such a person that “distant water doesn’t quench thirst.”

This proverb teaches people to work in order get resources to help them solve their problems in their lives because “distant water does not quench thirst.”
