Mbuki ya kahayile kenako, ifumilile ku bhulekanija bho mbata ijinagubhelela abhana bhayo. Imbata yiniyo, idalelaga chiza abhana bhayo, na hangi idabhacholelaga ijiliwa, kunguno igikalaga idililile yoyi duhu. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘ibhegejagi guti bhana bha mbata.’

Akahayile kaneko, kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo adabhadililile chiza abhana bhakwe, umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo adabhacholelaga ijiliwa abhana bhakwe bhenabho, kunguno ya gwikala widililile weyi duhu, umukikalile kakwe. Uweyi adabhalelaga bho gubhalanga ilange lya wiza abhana bhakwe bhenabho.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, akikolaga ni mbata yiniyo iyo igabhalekanijaga abhana bhayo, kunguno nu weyi adabhalelaga chiza abhana bhakwe, iki agidililaga weyi duhu, umuwikaji bhokwe. Nuweyi adabhacholelaga ijiliwa abhana bhakwe bhenabho, guti ni mbata yiniyo. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagabhawilaga abhana bhakwe bhenabho giki, ‘ibhegejagi guti bhana bha mbata.’

Chanzo cha msemo huo, chatokea kwenye utelekezaji wa bata katika kuwalea watoto wake. Bata huyo, hawalei vizuri watoto wake hao. Yeye pia hawatafutii chakula, kwa sababu ya kujijali yeye mwenyewe tu, katika maisha yake. Ndiyo maana watu huambiana kwamba, ‘jigetemeeni kama mtoto wa bata.’

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hawajali vizuri watoto wake, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, hawapatii malezi mema watoto wake hao. Yeye pia hawatafutii chakula, kwa sababu ya kujijali mwenyewe zaidi kuliko watoto wake hao, katika maisha yake.  

Mtu huyo, hufanana na Bata huyo atelekezaye watoto wake, kwa sabahu naye hawajali watoto wake kwa kuwalea katika maadili mema. Yeye pia hawatafutii chakula watoto wake hao kwa sababu ya kujijali yeye zaidi kuliko watoto wake, maishani mwake. Ndiyo maana watu huwaambia watoto wake hao kwamba, ‘jigetemeeni kama mtoto wa bata.’

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwalea vizuri na kuwatafutia chakula watoto wao, ili waweze kupata malezi mema ya kuishi vizuri na kujibidisha kufanya kazi zao vizuri, katika maisha yao.

ENGLISH: BE SELF-INDEPENDENT LIKE THE DUCK’S CHICKS.

The source of the saying is the chick of duck. Unlike hen, ducks tend to let their chicks free to look for their food. Duck’s chicks are made to struggle on their own without a help from their mothers. This is why people came up with this saying that ‘be self-independent like the duck’s chicks to imply dependence and personal struggle in achieving success in life.

This saying can be compared to a person who does not care well for his/her children in his/her life. Such a person does not provide food for his/her children thus letting them to suffer without any help. The person of this nature cares for himself/herself and ignores others.

The saying teaches people about how to properly nurture and feed their children so that they can have a good upbringing.

Ubhulenganiji bhogo bhunubho, bhulolile bhutale, nulu bhudoni ubho bhulinganilile.  Agoyi gagikolanijiyagwa na bhaniki, kunguno nabho bhagazugaga jiliwa aha kaya. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagiganilaga giki, ‘bhanhya bhamilenganilo:- Mashiga.’

Ikalagu yiniyo, igalenganijiyagwa kubhanhu abho bhalina ng’wigwano go gwiyambilija uguitumama imilimo yabho, umuwikaji bhobho. Abhanhu bhenabho, bhali na bhutogwa ubho bhugabhalumanyaga kihamo, umukikalile kabho. Abhoyi bhagapandikaga matwajo mingi, umumilimo yabho guti numo gagajisijaga ijiliwa amashiga genayo.

Abhanhu bhenabho, bhagikolaga na mashiga, kunguno nabho bhali na ng’wigwano go gwiyambilija halumo uguitumama chiza imilimo yabho, umukikalile kabho.

Chanzo cha kitendawili hicho, chatokea kwenye ulinganifu wa mafiga katika kusaidiana kufanya kazi. Mafiga hayo, ni mawe au matofali matatu yanayolingana vizuri, kiasi cha kutosha kukishikilia chungu au chombo cha kupikia chakula. Yenyewe huwa yamelingana kwa maana kwa kuwa na ukubwa unaoendana, au kama ni madogo, yote yawe udogo unaolingana.

Mafiga hayo, hufananishwa na wasichana kwa sababu nao hufanya kazi za kupika chakula katika familia.  Yenyewe, huacha nafasi katikati ambapo huwekwa kuni zinawashwa moto na kuendelea kuchochewa mpaka chakula kinaifa vizuri. Ndiyo maana watu huhadithiana kwamba, ‘washichana wanaolingana:-  Mafiga.’

Kitendawili hicho, hulinganishwa kwa watu wale ambao wana uelewano wa kusaidiana katika kufanya kazi zao. Watu hao, wana upendo ambao huwaunganisha pamoja, maishani mwao. Wao hupata mafanikio mengi katika utekelezaji wa majukumu yao, kama yanavyoivisha chakula Mafiga hayo.

Watu hao, hufanana na mafiga, kwa sababu nao, wana uelewano wa kusaidiana pamoja katika utekelezaji wa majukumu yao, maishani mwao. Wao huwafundisha pia wenzao, juu ya kuwa na upendo huo wa kusaidiana pamoja katika kuzitekeleza vizuri kazi zao. Ndiyo maana watu hao, huwahadithia wenzao kwamba, ‘washichana wanaolingana:-  Mafiga.’

Kitendawili hicho, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na ushirikiano wa kusaidiana pamoja katika utekelezaji wa majukumu yao, ili waweze kupata mafanikio mengi, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: I HAVE A RIDDLE – LET IT COME.

THREE GIRLS OF SIMILAR ATTRIBUTES – THREE COOKING STONES.

The source of this riddle is the cooking stones. These stones always appear in the kitchen and one of their central functions is to hold a cooking pot or saucepan when cooking. These three cooking stones are characterized by having similar attributes; they have similar size and height in order to facilitate easy holding of the pot or saucepan.

The three stones are always arranged in such a way that they leave a space between them where one can make fire. This is why people came with this riddle ‘three girls of similar attributes – cooking stones’ to communicate the resemblance of cooking stones.

This riddle can be compared to people who tend to help each other in doing something. Such peple tend to regard themselves as one solid unit who can work together in order to achieve something of great impact to the society. These people also teach others about the need for helping each other in doing their jobs well.

This riddle teaches people about how to work together to help each other in fulfilling their responsibilities so that they can achieve more in their lives.

Chanzo cha methali hii chatokea kwenye maisha ya koo za watu. Koo hizo ni  makundi ya udugu wa watu walio na mila zinazowasaidia katika kuishi vizuri na wenzao, kwa sababu kila mmoja ana ukoo wake. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘watu tu wa koo mbalimbali.’

Methali hii hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye anazifahamu mila zilizo njema katika ukoo wake maishani mwake. Mtu huyo huziishi mila hizo ambazo humsaidia katika kuishi kwa amani na wenzake, katika kijiji chake. Yeye huzishikilia desturi hizo kwa sababu humuonesha namna ya kuyatekeleza majukumu yake vizuri katika ukoo wake.

Mtu huyo huwasaidia pia wenzake katika ukoo wao, ili waweze kuzitumia desturi hizo katika kujibidisha kufanya kazi za kuwapatia mafanikio ya kuziendeleza vizuri familia zao. ENGLISH: PEOPLE ARE DIVIDED BASED ON KINGSHIP.

The source of this saying is the life of people. People tend to live according to how they relate to each other. Their relationship is mainly determined by kingship because of sharing some cultural and traditional values. This is why people came with the saying that ‘people are divided based on kingship’ to justify how clan ties determine the life system of people.

This saying can be compared to a person who knows the good traditions of his/her clan and abide by them. These traditional values might be of great help in making people live together peacefully and harmoniously. Such a person can be regarded as a role model to others in terms of showing them how traditions and customs of a particular clan can shape the behaviour of a certain person. This person also teaches others how to nurture moral values in order to create a society that is morally upright.

This saying teaches people about living good life with others in the society by abiding by moral values of that particular society.

The origin of this proverb is people’s lives based on their clans. The clans are fraternal groups of people who have traditions that bind them together, because they each have their own clan. That is why people say, ‘We people are from different clans.’

The proverb is used comparatively to refer to any individual who knows the good traditions of his/her clan. The person lives abiding by those traditions that help him/her live in harmony with neighbors. That person upholds to those customs because they guide him/her on how to carry out his/her duties properly. The person, in turn, helps his or her relatives in the family, so that they can abide by these practices in their efforts to achieve success in their families.

He/she is a role model for his/her colleagues in applying such good traditions for his/her achievements in lifes. That is why he/she tells his/her companions, ‘We people are from different clans.’

The source of this saying is the migration of people from one authoritative unit or Kingdom to another. This kind of migration is compared with the way monkeys jump from one tree to another. This is why people came with the saying that ‘people are like kings’ monkeys’ to describe how people move from one kingdom to another and how they are forced to follow rules and regulations of that particular kingdom.

This saying can be compared to a person who listens well to his/her leaders in his/her life. This person tends to love his/her leaders. Like the monkey that jumps from one tree to another, this person tends to respect the rules and regulations of a given authoritative unit. Such a person teaches others about respect and obedience in life.

Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘watu tuna mgao mgao.’

Methali hiyo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye huvitumia vizuri vipaji alivyopewa na Mungu, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, huvitumia vipaji vyake hivyo, ambavyo ni pamoja na nguvu, na akili zake katika kuyatekeleza vizuri majukumu yake, maishani.

Yeye pia huwasaidia wenzake katika kuvitambua na kutuvitumia vizuri vipaji vyao, ili waweze kupata mafanikio mengi, katika utendaji wa kazi zao za kila siku. Wale wanaomsikiliza hufanikiwa kupata chakula, na mali za kuweza kuwasaidia vizuri katika maisha yao.

The source of this saying is peoples’ talents. People have different talents that enable them to perform different duties in life. God, the giver of talents, ensured that not all human beings are the same in terms of knowledge about the world around them. It is through this distribution of talents that people came with the saying that ‘Everyone has his/her own talent’ to communicate different activities performed by different people in building the society.

This saying can be compared to a person who makes good use of his/her God-given talents in his/her life. This person uses his/her talents, which include his/her power and intelligence to fulfill his/her duties in life. Such a person can also assist his/her colleagues in realizing their talents and working on them in order to achieve success in life.
