352. NUGU-TENGELWA B’O NYAMA NANG’HO WANDYA KUKOB’A JAMAGUHA.

Imbuki ya lusumo lunulo yingilile kubhutengelwa bho nyama hakaya ya ng’wa munhu nhebhe. Imyama jinijo jalijawiza pye ijose. Aliyo lulu untengelwa o nyama ng’wunuyo, agandya guyujichola nsoga guti giki, inyama ijingi jidijawiza. Hunagwene agawilagwa giki ‘nugutengelwa bho nyama nangho wandya gukob’a jamaguha.’

Akahayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo alindoshi, ogutogwa gujisondagula ijiliwa ijo wenhelagwa. Chanzo cha methali hiyo chaangalia kutengewa nyama kwenye familia ya mtu fulani. Nyama hizo zilikuwa nzuri zote. Lakini yule aliyetengewa ili azile, alianza kuzitafuta zile zilizonzuri, na kuziona zingine kama hazifai. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia mtu huyo, kwamba, ‘na kutengewa nyama nawe ukaanza kuchambua za mifupa.’

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa mtu ambaye ni mwenye majivuno ya kuvidharau vile anavyopewa na wenzake. Mtu huyo baada ya kutengewa chakula huanza kuzitafuta zile zilizonzuri na kuziona zingile kama hazifari. Ndiyo maana wenzake humwambia kwamba, ‘na kutengewa nyama nawe ukaanza kuchambua za mifupa.’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha tabia za majivuno ya kuwadharau wengine na kukidharau chakula kile wapewacho maisha mwao.

ENGLISH: TO BE GIVEN MEAT AND BEGINNING TO LOOK FOR BONES.

The source of the above proverb is a story about someone being given meat. The story narrates about someone who was given meat and instead, began looking for bones as a way to disapprove the given food. People of this caliber are being criticized through this saying.

This proverb can be compared to a person who is arrogant and is not ready to appreciate what is being given by others. When given food to eat, he/she begins looking for its weaknesses and finally disapproves it. Such people are challenged by telling them that ‘to be given meat and beginning to look for bones’ in order to make them calm and appreciate what comes before them.

The proverb teaches people to stop being arrogant by despising others who appear to be helpful in their lives. Rather, they have to have a tendency of appreciation whenever they are being given something.

ENGLISH: YOU ARE FIGHTING AGAINST DARKNESS. 

The source of the above saying is the fight between eyes and darkness. Darkness comes when the sun goes down. It prevents eyes from seeing afar. Eyes tend to fight with darkness because they fail to see clearly during dark times. This is why people can say, ‘you are fighting against darkness.’

The above saying can be compared to someone who does worthless jobs in life. Such a person gets bored for no reason because of doing low-paying jobs. This is why people can tell such a person that ‘you are fighting against darkness.’

The saying teaches people about doing work that can bring them great success in life.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agalipandika iligembe linilo na gwandya ugulilimila bho bhukamu bhunubho, mpaga ubisha ijo olimaga na ugula sabho ningi. Aho unimi ng’wunuyo ojipandika isabho jinijo, uweyi kihamo na bhanhu abho bhamhonaga umootumamilaga, wagayomba giki, ‘igembe sab’o.’

Akahayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agajitumamilaga bho bhukamu bhutale ijikolo ijo jiganpandikilaga sabho. Umunhu ng’wunuyo agabhalangaga na bhiye ahigulya ya gujitumila bho bhukamu bhunub’o ijitumamilo jabho ijo jidulile gubhenhela sabho. Hunagwene umunhu ng’wunuyo agabhawilaga abhiye giki, ‘igembe sabho.’

ENGLISH: A HOE IS WEALTH.

The source of the above saying comes from a person who uses hoe in his/her farming activities. Such a person understands that a hoe is a useful tool that can give him/her wealth, provided that he/she uses it with great efforts.

People uses hoe in order to get farm products and people around will cheer him/her up because of the way he/she can harvest in his/her farm. This is why people can say ‘the hoe is wealth.’

The saying can be compared to a person who effectively uses some devices that can enable him/her to have good harvest. Such a person also teaches his/her colleagues how to use their resources in a manner that can enable them to bring wealth to their lives. This is why people say ‘the hoe is wealth.’

The saying teaches people how to make use of their resources, which can help them to have good harvest that leads to better life.

Imbuki ya kahayile kenako yingilile kubhugemelwa bho ng’wa munhu guching’wa ichimu. Ilichimu linilo jiliginhu jugi ijo jidulile gunhemaja munhu. Kuyiniyo lulu, ulu munhu unkanga ng’wiye bho gungemela gunchima ichimu, uyo aligemelwa, adulile gugwa guti giki ochimagwa nili lichimu liniyo.

Gashinaga lulu, ulu munhu ungemela ng’wiye ichimu idi giki onchimaga, onkanga duhu kugiki, ogohe. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘gugemelwa ichimu idi guching’wa.’

Akahayike kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kubhanhu abho bhalib’ob’a bha gutumama milimo iyo ilimidimu, aliyo lulu imilimo yiniyo idulile gubhinja bhanhu mumakoye. Abhanhu bhenabho bhagawilagwa giki, imilimo yiniyo idadulile gubhabhulaga, kunguno, ugugemelwa ichimu idi kung’wa.

Kumbe basi, mtu akimjaribia mwenzake kumchoma mkuki huo, sio kwamba, amemchoma, bali amemtishia tu ili agope. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘kujaribiwa mkuki sio kuchomwa.’

ENGLISH: BEING TESTED BY SPEAR DOESN’T MEAN YOU HAVE BEEN PIERCED.

The source of the above saying comes from an incident of someone trying to brandish a spear. The spear is a sharp knot that can hurt a person. So, if a person threatens a fellow by stabbing him/her with a spear, the threatened person may even fall, thinking that he/she is being stabbed.

A person can pretend to be piercing someone but that doesn’t make this another person to be pierced. Rather, threatening him/her. This is why people say, ‘being tested by spear doesn’t mean that you have been pierced.’

The saying can be comparable to people who are afraid to do hard works, without knowing that those tasks can save others from trouble. These people are told that, those jobs can’t kill them, because ‘being tested by spear does’t mean that you have been pierced.’

The saying teaches people to break the fear of doing hard work because those tasks can save others from trouble. Therefore, it is important for these individuals to increase their efforts in such activities in order to create a better ground for future success in life.

Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘Fumbuka agaleka chuma jakwe adafulile.’

Akahayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agatumamaga milimo yakwe bho nduhu gunzunya, nulu gung’wisanya Mulungu. Umunhu ng’wunuyo adamanile igiki, Uwelelo adalindilaga munhu mpaga aimale imilimo yakwe, na ang’wizile. Gashinaga, Uweyi alinabhudula bho gung’wizile munhu ose ose, na kumakanza ayo atogilwe weyi.

Msemo huyo hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hufanya kazi zake bila kumwamini wala kumtegemea Mungu. Mtu huyo haelewi kwamba, Mungu hamsubili mtu mpaka amalize kazi zake, ndipo amchukue. Kumbe, Yeye anao uwezo wa kumchukua mtu yeyote na kwa wakati wowote, anaoutaka Yeye.

Yafaa watu wafanye kazi zao kwa kumwamini na kumtegemea Mungu, kwa sababu Yeye anao uwezo ya kuzifanikisha kazi zao hizo, na kuwachukua wakati autakao Yeye. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘Fumbuka aliacha chuma chake hakutengeneza.’

Msemo huo hufundisha watu juu ya kumwamini na kumtegemea Mungu katika kazi zao, ili waweze kuishi kwa kadiri atakavyo Yeye, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: FUMBUKA LEFT HIS IRONS; HE DID NOT MAKE.

The origin of the above saying comes from a man named Fumbuka and his iron-making skill. Fumbuka was an iron-smith who thought he would finish his job by processing all his metals. Unfortunately, the man passed on before he could finish his work. This is why people say, ‘Fumbuka left his irons; he did not make.’

The saying is compared to a person who does his work without his/her trust in God. Such a person does not understand that God does not wait for anyone to finish his/her work, and then take him/her. God has the power to take anybody and at any time He wants to.

People should do their jobs by trusting in God because He has the power to accomplish their tasks and take them at the time He wants. This is why people say, ‘Fumbuka left his irons; he did not make.’

The above saying teaches people an idea of putting their trust in God in their daily works. People need to live according to the way God wants them to live.
