372. NG’WA B’ULALAGO B’ULI HITALE.

Imbuki ya lusumo lunulo yingilile kunzara iyo igigela kubhanhu bha ntuzu. Intuzu yali tarafa ya wilaya ya Bariadi umunkoa go Simiyu. Abhana ntuzu bhenabho umugusuma gobho bhagigwa giki ub’usiga  b’ulihoyi iLalago, umuwiya ya Maswa. Ng’hana ahab’aja koyi, b’ugab’usanga bhuhoyi, niyo bhutali bhuli Hitale. B’agayujingijiwa bho beyi ya hasili. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayikumija bho guyomba giki, ‘ng’wa b’ulalago b’uli hitale.’

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kubhanhu abho ghagabhagunanaga abhichabho, abho bhali na makoye guti ga nzala, na gangi mingi. Abhanhu bhenabho bhagabhalanjaga na bhichabho bhogub’awila  uko bhuli ub’upandiki bho jikolo na gwikala na wigunani bhunubho, umuwikaji bhobho. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘ng’wa lalago b’uli hitale.’

LALAGO UPO KWENYE MWAMBA.

Chanzo cha methali hiyo chatokea kwenye hali ya njaa iliyotokea kwa watu wa Ntuzu. Ntuzu ilikuwa tarafa ya wilaya ya Bariadi, Mkoani Simiyu. Watu hao wa Ntuzu, katika kuhemea kwao walisikia kwamba mtama unapatikana Lalago iliyoko wilayani Maswa.

Walipoenda huko, kweli waliukuta upo mtama huo, tena ulikuwa bado kwenye mwamba wa kuupigia. Wakawa wanauziwa kwa bei nafuu. Wakawa wakipeana taarifa kwa kusema kwamba, ‘Lalago upo kwenye mwamba.’

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa watu ambao huwasaidia wenzao walioko kwenye matatizo mbalimbali yakiwemo yale ya njaa, na mengine mengi. Watu hao huwafundisha pia wenzao, namna ya kuishi kwa kusaidiana hivyo, maishani mwao. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘Lalago upo kwenye mwamba.’

Methali hiyo yafundisha watu juu ya kuwasaidia watu wao walioko kwenye matatizo, ili waweze kuyatatua mapema matatizo hayo.

ENGLISH: IN LALAGO SORGHUM ARE ON THE ROCK.

The source of this saying is famine that affected the Ntuzu people. Ntuzu was a division in Bariadi district, Simiyu Region. The Ntuzu people heard that sorghum was found in Lalago in Maswa district.

When they visited the place, they could see plent of it and it was still on the rock; a place for drying after harvesting it. The sorghum was sold cheaply to the Ntuzu people. As a way to encourage each other to visit the place, they could say ‘in Lalago millet are on the rock.’

The saying can be compared to people who help others during distress time, including hunger, and many others. It also teaches people how to live by helping each other in their lives. This is why people can say ‘in Lalago sorghum are on the rock’ to communicate care and offering a helping hand.

The proverb teaches people about helping their fellows who are in crisis so that they can solve their problems.

371. TULO LUFU.

Imbuki ya kahayile kenako yingilile kuli Lufu na Tulo. Ijisumva ijo jigeshemaga jigalalaga tulo ib’ujiku. Ijisumva jinijo ulu julala jigab’izaga guti jachaga, kunguno jidamanaga jose jose. Gashinaga lulu ub’ujiku b’ugalihaga guti ng’waka (b’ujiku ng’waka). Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘tulo lufu.’

Akahayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agikalaga chiza na bhanhu bhakwe, haho adinaja ugujulala ib’ujiku, kunguno adeb’ile igiki, bhuli jisumva jilacha.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo agabhalangaga na bhiye ahigulya ya gutumama milimo yabho bho gub’ambilija abhichabho gwikala bho mholele, na bhanhu, haho b’adinacha, kunguno bhadamanile ulushigu ulogucha. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘tulo lufu.’

Akahayile kenako kalanga bhanhu higulya ya gutogwa gwikala bho bholele na bhichabho, kugiki, ulub’ucha bhadule gubhalekela ilange lyawiza, abhananzengo bhab’o.

KISWAHILI:USINGIZI KIFO.

Chanzo cha msemo huo chatokea kwenye usingizi na kifo. Viumbe wapumuao hulala usingizi wakatik wa usiku. Viumbe hao wakilala hawa hawajitambui, kwa sababu wao huwa kama wamekufa. kwa vile huwa hawatambui jambo lolote. Kumbe basi, usiku huwa mlefu kwa mwaka  (usiku mwaka). Ndiyo maawa watu husema kwamba, ‘usinzizi kifo.’

Msemo huo hulinganishwa kwa mtu ambaye huishi vizuri na watu wake, kwa sababu yeye afahamu kwamba, kila mmoja atakufa. Mtu huyo huwafundisha pia wenzake juu ya kuishi kwa amani na watu kabla ya kufa, kwa sababu wahaijui siku ya kufa. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘tulo lufu.’

Msemo huo hufundisha watu juu ya kupenda kuishi kwa amani na wenzao, ili waweze kuwaachia urithi wa kufaa maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: SLEEPING IS DEATH.

The source of the above saying comes from sleep and death. At night time, breathing organisms always fall asleep. These sleeping beings do not make sense of themselves when asleep. They appear like being dead. This is why people can tell such people that ‘sleeping is death.’

The saying can be compared to someone who lives well with his/her people because he/she knows that everyone will eventually die. Such a person also teaches his/her colleagues how to live in peace with people before they die because they do not know the day of their death. This is why people can say, ‘sleeping is death.’

The saying teaches people about a need to live in peace with neighbors so that they can leave a legacy for living a good life on earth.

370. WALALILAGA IGONG’HO LIMO.

Imbuki ya lusumo lunulo yingilile kubhulaji b’o ng’wa munhu higong’ho limo. Umunhu ng’wunuyo agaminyigagwa ni ligong’ho linilo ulu olilalila kunguno ya bhudimu bholyo. Uluwela ubhujiku agab’izaga adina lubhango kunguno ya guluhiwa ni ligong’ho linilo. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga giki ‘walalilaga igong’ho limo.’

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo omishaga apelanile ying’wene. Umunhu ng’wunuyo nulu agabhujiwa mhayo na bhiye, agagakalihaga gwike. Abhiye bhagadumaga uguhoya nang’hwe, kunguno ya gogoha gukalihilwa sagala. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga giki, ‘walalilaga igong’ho limo.’

Chanzo cha methali hiyo chatokea kwenye ulalaji wa mtu kwenye gongo moja. Mtu huyo huumizwa sana na gongo hilo alilaliapo, kwa sababu ya ugumu wake. Usiku ukicha, yeye huwa hana raha kwa sababu ya kuteswa kwake hivyo.  Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, ‘umelalia gongo moja.’

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye ameamuka akiwa amekasilika mwenyewe. Mtu huyo, hata akiulizwa jambo na wenzake, huwa alielewi. Wenzake hushindwa kuongea naye kwa sababu ya kuogopa kukalipiwa hovyo. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, ‘umelalila gongo moja.’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha kuishi kwa hasira na wenzao, ili waweze kuishi kwa amani na wenzao hao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: YOU HAVE SLEPT ON ONE WOOD.

The source of this saying is someone who sleeps on one wood. Such a person is likely to have severe spine pain when he/she wakes up. He/she is someone who is in pain the whole night. This is why people can tell such a person that ‘you have slept on one wood.’

The saying can be compared to a person who appears to be angry in the morning. Such a person, even when asked something, he/she can pretend not to have understood it. This is why people can tell such a person that ‘you have slept on one wood.’

The proverb teaches people about letting go of anger so that they can live in peace with their neighbors.

369. ULALILE BHULI?

Imbuki ya lusumo lunulo yingilile kuli munhu uyo alalile. Umunhu ng’wunuyo adigwaga ginhu josejose kunguno ya gub’iza alimutulo jakwe jinijo. Uweyi agab’izaga alalile ahamakanza ayo yigelelilwe abhize ali miso. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagamujaga giki, ‘ulalile b’uli.’

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agab’izaga adadeb’ile ijo jilendeleya aho ali uweyi. Jidulile nulu gwigela jito jitale aho ali umunhu ng’wunuyo, aliyo uweyi agub’iza adajideb’ile. Kukikalile kenako agab’izaga guti alalile aho ali henaho. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagamujaga giki, ‘ulalile b’uli?’

Chanzo cha methali hiyo chatokea kwenye hali ya mtu aliyelala. Mtu huyo huwa hasikii kitu chochote kile kwa sababu ya kuwa na usingizi wake huo. Yeye huwa amelala hata wakati ule atakiwapo kuwa macho. Ndiyo maana watu humuuliza kwamba, ‘kwa nini umelala?’

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa mtu ambaye huwa haelewi kile kinachoendelea pale alipo. Chaweza hata kutokea kitu kubwa ambacho hutakiwa kuwa amekielewa, lakini yeye huwa hakielewi. Maisha hayo hulingana na mtu aliyelala pale alipo. Nidyo maana watu humuuliza kwamba, ‘kwa nini umelala?’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kufanya utafiti wa kuwawezesha kuelewa kile kinachoendelea pale walipo, ili waweze kuwasaidia wenzao walioko kwenye matatizo.

The source of the above saying comes from someone who appears to be asleep. Such a person usually does not hear anything because of his/her sleep. He/she is always asleep even when he/she has to be awake. Such people are always being asked: ‘why have you slept?’

This saying can be compared to a person who does not understand what is going on around him/her. Something might happen that he/she should have understood, but he/she does not understand it. The saying can also be likened to a lazy person who does not want to work.This is why people can ask such a person ‘why have you slept?’ to mean that he/she has to wake up.

The proverb teaches people about doing research that can enable them understand what is going on around them. This will help them have good life.

Imbuki ya lusumo lunulo yingilile kubhulaji bho mitugo ng’waje. Imitugo jinijo jilina nyango, aliyo gudalugalgwa. Abhanhu ulu bhub’ona gudalugalilwe unyango gunuyo bhagayombaga giki, ‘jalala ng’waje.’

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo adajidililaga chiza ijikolo, nulu isabho jakwe. Isabho jinijo nulu jigajimila, uweyi adajisadagwa. Umunhu ng’wunuyo agajilekanijaga sagala duhu kunguyo ya gugayiwa bhudiliji bho sabho jakwe bhunubho. Hunagwene abhanhu ulu bhajibhona jilekanijije chiniko, bhagayombaga giki, ‘jalala ng’waje.’

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa mtu ambaye huwa haijali vizuri mali yake. Mali hiyo hata ikipotea yeye huwa hajali. Yeye huitelekeza mali hiyo kwa sababu ya kutokujali kwake. Ndiyo maana watu waionapo mali yake hiyo iliyotelekezwa husema, ‘imelala wazi.’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kutunza vizuri mali zao ili zisije zikapotea hovyo.

ENGLISH: THEY HAVE SLEPT WHILE THE DOOR IS OPEN.

The source of the above saying comes from sleeping animals in their kraal without protecting them by closing their entrance door. Kraals always have doors that need to be locked when animals are in for security reasons and for limiting them moving out before being allowed to do so. This is why when people see the kraal’s door is open while animals are in can say, ‘they have slept while the door is open.’

This saying can be compared to someone who is not taking good care of his/her property. Even if the property is lost he/she does not care. He/she is someone who forsakes the property because of his/her negligence. This is why when people see such a person can say, ‘they have slept while the door is open.’

This proverb teaches people to take good care of their property.
