460. GUICHOBHELA MAGULU.

Imbuki ya kahayile kenako, yilolile bhuchoji bho ginhu, bho gutumila magulu. Ulu munhu alichola ginhu jilebhe, adulile gutumila nzila ningi, nulu magulu, kugiki adule gujipandika ijo alijichola. Abhanhu ulu bhubhona alikulagula bho magulu gakwe genayo, bhaguyomba giki, wandya ‘guicholela magulu,’ isabho yiniyo.

Akahayile kenako, kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu, uyo adalendaga aha kaya yakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikalaga uyunga uko nuko, ijo agajicholaga agabhizaga ajimanile weyi ng’winikili. Ulu ukenya hanhu, abhanhu bhagung’wila giki, otogagwa weyi ‘guichobhela magulu,’ imihayo yiniyo.

Akahayile kenako, kalanga bhanhu higulya ya guleka bhuyungi bho nduhu nguno, kugiki bhadizichobhela mamihayo ga sagara, nulu makoye gagwiyenhela bhoyi, umuwikaji bhobho.

KUITAFUTIA KWA MIGUU.

Chanzo cha msemo huo, chaangalia utafutaji wa kitu kwa kutumia miguu. Mtu akiwa anatafuta kitu fulani, aweza kutumia njia nyingi, hata kutumia miguu yake, ili aweze kukipata kile anachokitafuta.

Watu wakimuona akikwaluza ardhi kwa kutumia miguu yake hiyo, katika kutafuta kwake, watasema kwamba, ameanza ‘kuitafutia miguu,’ mali hiyo.

Msemo huyo hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye, hatulii nyumbani kwake. Mtu huyo, huwa anazunguka kwa kuzurura katika sehemu mbalimbali, akitafuta kile anachokifahamu mwenyewe.  Lakini akizua ugomvi, au matatizo fulani, watu watasema kwamba, amependa mwenyewe, ‘kuitafutia miguu,’ kesi hiyo.

Msemo huo hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha tabia ya kuzurura bila sababu, ili wasijitafutie matatizo ambayo, ni ya kujitakia wenyewe, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: SEARCHING IT BY USING LEGS.

The source of this saying is searching something using one’s legs. When a person is looking for something, he/she can use many means, even using his feet to find out what he/she is looking for.

When people see him/her scratching the land, searching using his own feet they will say that he/she has begun ‘to search it by using legs.’

This saying can be comparable to a person who doesn’t settle in his/her house rather wanders around, looking for something he/she knows himself/herself. When he/she encounters problems, people will say, he/she loved himself/herself to be in problems. In other words, he/she searched for her own problems.

The proverb teaches people to stop wandering for no reason. They need to stay home where necessary in order to avoid some unnecessary problems.

459. NG’WANA WA NTEMI ADAJAGA BHUSESE.

Imbuki ya lusumo lunulo, yilolile bhuji bho bhusese na kikalile ka bhana bha Ntemi. Abhanhu, akale bhajaga bhusese, abho bhadi bhatale umuchalo jabho.

Aliyo lulu, abhana bha bhatale bhali bhadajaga ubhusese bhunubho, kunguno nabho bhadulile gubhiza bhatale, aha shigu ijahabhutongi. Hunagwene abhanhu abhagayombaga giki, ‘ng’wana wa ntemi adajaga bhusese.’

Ulusumo lunulo, lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo ali ng’wana o ntale guti ntemi. Ung’wana ng’wunuyo adikomile uguja ubhusese, nulu guchola milimo iyo ikolile na bhusese, kunguno ali ng’wana o ntale. Gashinaga lulu, ung’wana o ntale nang’hwe ali ntale. Hunagwene abhanhu abhagayombaga giki, ‘ng’wana wa ntemi adajaga bhusese.’

Ulusumo lunulo, lolanga bhanhu higulya ya gubhiza ni kujo kubhatale bhabho, kugiki bhadule gwikala bho mholele, nabhichabho, umuwikaji bhbho.

KISWAHILI: MTOTO WA MAFALME HAENDI UTUMWANI.

Chanzo cha methali hiyo, chaangalia uendaji wa utumwani, na maisha ya watoto wa mfalme. Hapo zamani, watu walipelekwa utumwani, hasa wale ambao hawakuwa viongozi wakubwa.

Lakini basi, watoto wa wafalme, hawakuenda utumwani kwa sababu nao wanaweza kushika nafasi ya ukubwa huo wa kuwa wafalme, kwenye siku za mbeleni. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘mtoto wa mfalme haendi utumwani.’

Methali hiyo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye ni mtoto wa kiongozi mkubwa, anayelingana na mfalme. Mtoto huyo hawezi kuchukuliwa kwenda utumwani. Wala hawezi kufanya kazi za watumwa, kwa sababu ni mtoto wa mkubwa. Kumbe mtoto wa mkubwa, naye ni mkubwa. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘mtoto wa mfalme haendi utumwani.’

Methali hiyo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na heshima kwa watu wao, hasa wakubwa wao, ili waweze kuishi kwa amani na wenzao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: THE KING’S SON CANNOT BE TAKEN AS A SLAVE.

The source of the proverb looks at the way the son of the King can be treated different from other people. In the past, during slave trade period, sons of Kings could not be taken as slaves. One of the reasons for them being reserved from been abducted is, they were potential of becoming Kings in future. Therefore, this scenario of protecting royal families was summarized using the proverb ‘the King’s son cannot be taken as a slave.’

This proverb can be likened to a man who is a son of a great leader, like the king. The child can neither be taken into captivity nor do works of slaves because they can also occupy positions held by their fathers in future.’

This proverb teaches people to respect their people and their positions, especially their elders, so that they can live in peace with their neighbours in their lives.

458. NGOMIKALA AGAJA NG’WA MIKANGAYO.

Imbuki ya kahayile kenako yingilile kubhuji bho ng’wa Ngomikala ng’wa Mikangayo, uyo ajikala hoi bho shigu ningi. UNgomikala agangeniha uMikangayo ugigasha hoyi nang’hwe mpaka jibhita shiku ningi, kunguno bhalibhanwanile. Hunagwene aho jakwila ishigu alikunuko, abhanhu bhuyomba giki, ‘Ngomikala agaja ng’wa Mikangayo.’

Akahayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kubhanhu abho bhitogilwe, umubhunwani bhobho. Abhanhu bhenabho bhagigenihaga bhagikala kihamo bho shigu ningi.

Abhoyi bhagabhonaga jidamu ugulekana, kunguno ya witogwi bhobho, umubhunwani bhunubho. Hunagwene abhanhu bhenabho bhagiwilaga giki, ‘Ngomikala agaja ng’wa Mikangayo.’

Akahayile kenako kalanga bhanhu higulya ya gubhiza na witogwi na bhanhu bhabho, kugiki bhadule ugujibheja chiza ikaya jabho.

Chanzo cha msemo huo chatokea kwenye uendaji wa Ngomikala kwa Mikangayo, aliyeishi huko kwa muda wa siku nyingi. Nkomikala alimtembelea Mikangayo akaenda kukaa naye mpaka zikapita siku nyingi, kwa sababu walikuwa marafiki. Ndiyo maana watu walipogundua hivyo walisema  kwamba, ‘Ngomikala alienda kwa Mikangayo.’

Msemo huo hulinganishwa kwa watu wale ambao wanapendana katika urafiki wao. Watu hao, hutembeleana na kwenda kuishi pamoja kwa muda wa siku nyingi.

Wao hujisikia vigumu kuachana kwa sababu ya upendo walio nao kati yao. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘Ngomikala alienda kwa Mikangayo.’

Msemo huo hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na upendo wa kuwawezesha kuishi vizuri na watu wao, ili waweze kuziendeleza vizuri familia zao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: NGOMIKALA WENT TO MIKANGAYO.

The source of the saying comes from Gomikala and Mikangayo who used to be good friends. Nkomikala visited Mikangayo and stayed with her until many days later, because they were friends. That is why when people found out, they said, ‘Komikala went to Mikangayo.’

The saying can be compared to those people who love each other in their friendship. Such people visit each other and go to live together for some days.

They feel difficult to separate because of the love they have between them. That is why people say, ‘Komikala went to Mikangayo.’

The saying teaches people about having love that enables them to live together for the wellbeing of their families and their lives as well.

457. NG’HWAJA NG’HULYA AGALYA HA NSALE GUDI GOKWE.

Imbuki ya lusumo lunulo, yilolile bhuli bho ng’wa ng’hwaja, muchalo ijo jidi jakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo olinyungi ogumana uja mumakaya ga muchalo umo oyungilaga.

Umo mubhuyungi bhokwe bhunubho, nose agalya ng’wigunguli ilo lidi lyakwe. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘Ng’hwaja ng’hulya agalya ha nsale gudi gokwe.’

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo ali nshiya, nulu ng’wibhi. Umunhu ng’wunuyo agalenganijiyagwa na Ng’hwaja ung’hulya, uyo agalya higunguli ilo lidi lyakwe, kunguno nang’hwe agalyaga ijo jidi jakwe. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga umunhu ng’wunuyo giki, ‘Ng’hwaja ng’hulya agalya ha nsale gudi gokwe.’

Chanzo cha methali hiyo chaangalia ulaji wa Ng’hwaja kwenye kijiji ambacho siyo chake. Mtu huyo alikuwa mzururaji ambaye alikuwa anakwenda kula kwenye miji ya watu vijijini.

Mwishowe, alikula kwenye kijiji kisichokuwa chake katika uzururaji wake huo. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘Ng’hwaja mzururaji alikula kwenye kijiji kisichokuwa chakwe.’

Methali hiyo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye ni mzinzi, au mwizi. Mtu huyo hulinganishwa na Ng’hwaja mzururaji aliyekula  kwenye kitongoji kisichokuwa chake, kwa sababu naye huyo, hula visivyokuwa vyake. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘Ng’hwaja mzururaji alikula kwenye kijiji kisichokuwa chakwe.’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha tabia za uzinzi na wizi, ili waweze kuishi vizuri na watu wao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: NG’HWAJA, THE WANDERER ATE AT THE VELLAGE THAT WAS NOT HIS.

The source of the proverb looks at Ng’waja’s wandering behaviour that made him develop behaviour of eating food in a village far from his home. Such a wanderer is being described in this proverb as someone who eats food far from his home village.

This proverb can be likened to an adulterous person or a thief. These are people who take other peoples’ belongings without their permissions. Such people with this undesirable behaviour are being warned using this proverb that ‘Ng’hwaja, the wanderer ate at the vellage that was not his.’

The proverb teaches people to break free from sexual immorality and theft. This will help people to have a very peaceful society.

456. BHUZENGWANWA BHUGIDAHULILAGA MAKUBI.

Imbuki ya lusumo lunulo yingilile kuwikaji bho bhazenganwa, abho bhagidahulilaga makubhi, ulu umo obho ogayiyagwa.

Abhanbhu bhenabho bhagigunanaga bho gwidahulila makubhi genayo, kunguno bhitogilwe. Hunagwene ulubhalilomba ginhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘bhuzenganwa bhugidahulilaga makubhi.’

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kubhanhu abho bhitogilwe umuwikaji bhobho. Abhanhu bhenabho bhagigunanaga bho gwiinha ginhu ijo umo obho ojigayiyagwa.

Abhoyi bhagalenganijiyagwa na bhuzenganwa ubho bhugidahulilaga makubhi, kunguno nabho bhagigunanaga bhuli ng’wene, uyo ugayiyagwa nulu jiliwa, abhiye bhadulile gung’winha. Hunagwene abhanhu bhenabho, bhagayombaga giki, ‘bhuzenganwa bhugidahulilaga makubhi.’

Chanzo cha methali hiyo chatokea kwenye maisha ya majirani wanaosaidiana, kwa kuchoteana mboga. Watu hao husaidiana kwa namna hiyo, kwa yule aliyekosa, ambaye huenda kuomba kwa majirani.

Wao hufanya hivyo kwa sababu ya upendo walio nao kwa kila mmoja wao. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘majirani huchoteana mboga.’

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa watu, wale wanaopendana maishani mwao. Watu hao husaidiana kwa kupeana vitu mbalimbali, ambavyo mmoja wao ameishiwa.

Wao hulinganishwa na majirani ambao huchoteana mboga, kwa sababu nao husaidiana kila mmoja anayeishiwa vitu kama vila chukula, ambaye hupewa na wenzake anaowaomba. Ndiyo maana watu huwaambia kwamba, ‘majirani huchoteana mboga.’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na upendo wa kusaidiana kila mmoja anayeishiwa kitu fulani, ili wote waweze kuishi kwa furaha, maishi mwao.

ENGLISH: NEIGHBOURS SHARE VEGETABLES.

The source of this proverb comes from the lives of neighbours who help one another by sharing vegetables. These people help each other in that way. These neighbours if one of them lacks something can easily ask her/his neighbour for a help. They do this because of love they have for each other. That is why people say, ‘neighbours share vegetables’ to mean intimacy among people in the vicinity.

The proverb can be compared to people; those who love each other in their lives. These people help each other by providing various items.

They are compared to neighbours who, when run out of groceries, can ask neighbours for a helping hand.

The proverb teaches people about loving each other. This can make people live a happily life.
