439. YANDI YA NG’WA MONGO NTEMI O BADI.

Imbuki ya kahayile kenako yingilile kuli ntemi o Badi, uyo witanagwa Mongo. Untemi ng’wunuyo, ohoyaga na manhu bhakwe abho obhalangaga kikalile kawiza, na bhichabho. Umumahoya gakwe genayo, obhizaga ulu umhona munhu uyo adelelagwa wangu iyo aling’wila, ong’wilaga giki, alindi.

Umunhu uyo alindi ng’wunuyo, munho munhu uyo alimu giiti ya guduma gwelelwa iyo aliwilwa na bhiye. Hunagwene abhanhu ulumumhona munhu uyo alindamu ugwelewa iyo bhaling’wila, bhagayombaga giki, ung’wunuyo ali ‘yandi ya ng’wa Mongo ntemi o Badi.’

KISWAHILI: YA ASIYEELEWA YA MONGO MTEMI WA BADI.

Chanzo cha msemo huo chatokea kwa mtemi wa Badi aliyeitwa, Mongo. Mtemi huyo alikuwa akiongea na watu wake juu ya kuishi vizuri katika kijiji chake. Akigundua kuwa, anayeongea naye, hakielewi kile anachomfundisha, alimwita mtu huyo kuwa ni mtu asiyeelewa.

Mtu huyo asiyeelewa yuko kwenye giza la kutokukielewa kile anachoambiwa na wenzake. Ndiyo maana, watu wakawa wanautumia msemo huo, kwa watu wale ambao hawaelewi kwa kusema kwamba, ‘ya asiyeelewa ya Mongo mtemi wa Badi.’

Msemo huo hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hataki kushauriwa na wenzake. Mtu huyo hufanana na mtu aliyemo kwenye giza la kutokuelewa kile anachoelezwa na wenzake. Yeye pia ni mgumu wa kuamuliwa, akikosana na mtu. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba yeye ni ‘ya asiyeelewa ya Mongo mtemi wa Badi.’

Msemo huo hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na umakini wa kuyaelewa mapema, yale wanayoelezwa na wenzao, ili waweze kuyatumia hayo katika kuyaendeleza vizuri, maisha yao.

ENGLISH: IT IS OF MONGO’S HARD TO UNDERSTAND THE CHIEF OF BADI.

The source of the saying comes from the chief of Badi named Mongo. This chief used to talk to his people about living well in his village. He later on realized that the one he was talking to did not understand what he was telling him then he called the man as a misunderstanding one.

The man who does not understand is in darkness of not understanding what his fellow men tell him. Therefore, people who could not understand easily any given information were described using the saying that ‘it is of Mongo’s hard to undertand the chief of Badi.’

The saying can be compared to a person who does not want the advice of his/her colleagues. This person is like a person who is in the dark for not understanding what others are saying. He/she is also tough to reconcile when in conflict with another person. That is why people can tell him/her that he/she is ‘hard to undertand the chief of Badi’ to communicate his/her difficulty nature of understanding things.

The saying teaches people to focus on understanding what their peers tell them in order for them to have good understanding with neirbours.

438. GULI MONGO GWIKE AMINZI GATIMO.

Imbuki ya lusumo lunulo yingilile ku mongo na minzi gago. Ulu yutula mbula nhale, aminzi gadulile gwisumbya mpaka gokola mumongo, uyo abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, gwizaga mongo.

Aliyo lulu, ulu gushila aminzi genayo, gusagaga mongo gwike. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki ugunuyo, ‘guli mongo gwike aminzi gatimo.’

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo adina masala. Aminzi ayo gali mumongo gagalenganijiyagwa na masala. Umongo uyo guti na minzi, gugikolanijiyagwa nu munhu ng’wunuyo, uyo adina masala.

Hunagwene abhanhu ulu bhumona munhu uyo adina masala, bhagayomgaga giki ung’wunuyo, ‘guli mongo gwike aminzi gatimo.’

Chanzo cha methali hiyo, chatokea kwenye mto na maji yake. Ikinyesha mvua kubwa, maji hujikusanya mpaka kuwa mengi yawezayo kujaza mto, ambao watu husema kwamba, mto umekuja.  Lakini basi, maji hayo yakiisha, hubaki mto tu. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, huo ‘ni mto tu maji hayamo.’

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hana akili. Maji yaliyomo mtoni hufananishwa na akili. Mto ambao hauna maji, hulingana na mtu yule asiye na akili. Ndiyo maana watu wakimuona mtu ambaye hana akili, husema kwamba, huo ‘ni mto tu maji hayamo.’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na upendo wa kuwasaidia watu ambao wana matatizo, ili waweze kuishi pamoja nao, kwa furaha.

ENGLISH: A RIVER WITHOUT WATER.

The source of this saying comes from the river and its water. When it rains heavily, the water accumulates to fill the river, which can make people say, the river has come. But when that water dries the river remains empty. That is why people can say ‘a river without water.’

The saying can be compared to a man who has no sense. The water in the river is likened to the mind. A river that has no water is the same as the mindless man. That is why when people see someone who has no sense, they can say, ”It’s just a river without water.’

The proverb teaches people about having knowledge about their surrounding environment. It also teaches people about love of helping others with problems, regardless of their knowledge and ability.

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agatumamaga milimo bho gwiyolecha kubhanhu bhandebhe igiki agatumamaga chiza.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo ahayile abhanhu bhagumane unimo gokwe, kugiki bhadule gunkumilija. Hunagwene abhanhu abho bhandebhile umo alili, nu wiyolecha bhokwe, bhagamujaga giki, ‘ubhebhe hu mola?’

KISWAHILI: WEWE NDIYE MOLA?

Chanzo cha methali hiyo chatokea kwa Mola. Mola alikuwa mtu yule ambaye hakupenda kazi zake zifanywe hovyo. Alipenda kazi hizo zifanywe kwa umakini na vizuri.

Mtu huyo alikuwa mfano wa kulinganishwa hata kwa mwingine ambaye hakutaka kufanya kazi vibaya. Hivyo yule aliyependa kuzifanya kazi zake vizuri, walimuuliza kwamba, ‘wewe ndiye mola?’

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hufanya kazi yake kwa kujidai kwamba anafahamu kila kitu, ili kujionesha kwa lengo la kutaka kusifiwa.

Mtu huyo, hutaka watu wazione kazi zake, ili wamsifiye. Ndiyo maana watu wale wanaielewa tabia yake hiyo, ya kufanya kazi kwa kujionesha, humuuliza kwamba, ‘wewe ndiye mola?’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha tabia ya kufanya kazi kwa lengo la kujionesha kwa watu kwamba, wanafahamu kila kitu, wakati kumbe sivyo, ili waweze kuzifanya vizuri kazi zao, hata kama watu wa kuwasifu, hawapo.

The source of the saying comes from Mola. Mola was a man who wanted his works to be done carefully and properly.

Mola was an example of people who would prefer to do their works in a perfect manner. Therefore, anyone who could do his/her work perfectly was compared to Mola. The saying can be compared to a person who does his/her work by claiming to know everything in order to show himself/herself that he/she is always perfect in his/her doings and therefore be praised by others.

The proverb teaches people not to work just for show up but work perfectly for the sake of building thir families and the society around them.

Agabhakomelejaga abhanhu bhakwe bhongeje bhukamu bho gugutumama wangu na gugumala, kugiki adule gupandika mafumilo miza. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘itaga go ng’hana umhayo gwenuyo guli ndito.’

Akahayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo opandika mamihayo matale, guti ga shushidakwa kuli bhanza. Umunhu ng’wunuyo okenya na bhunshidaka abhanhu abho obhakenya.

Abhiye abho bhabhudebhile ubhuhubhi bhokwe umunhu ng’wunuyo, bhagang’wilaga giki, ‘itaga go ng’hana umhayo gwenuyo guli ndito.’

Chanzo cha msemo huo chatokea kwenye uhimizanaji wa kufanya kazi ambayo ni nzito. Mtu akitaka kuifanya kazi ambayo ni nzito, hukusanya nguvu za kumwezesha kuifanya kazi hiyo vizuri na kwa haraka, mpaka kuimaliza.

Yeye huwahimiza watu wake waongoze bidii ya kuitekeleza kazi hiyo vizuri na kwa haraka iwezekanavyo, ili aweze kupata mafanikio mengi. Ndiyo maana wao huhimizana wakisema kwamba, ‘fanya la maana jambo hili ni zito.’

Msemo huo hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule, ambaye amepata matatizo makubwa, kama yale ya kushitakiwa mahakamani.

Mtu huyo alitenda kosa kwa watu wale waliomshitaki. Watu wale waliouelewa uzito wa kosa lake, humwambia kwamba, ‘fanya la maana jambo hili ni zito.’

The source of the above saying comes from encouragement to deal with heavy works. When a person wants to carry out a task that is heavy, he or she has to gather strength in order to carry it quickly and efficiently and finish it on required time.

The saying encourages people to carry out their daily activities efficiently and in a quick manner so as to achieve maximum success.

The saying can be compared to a person who has suffered serious problems, such as court cases and how he/she has to deal with it with immediacy.

The saying teaches people to work hard to empower those people to solve their problems as early as possible and in a peaceful manner. This will help them to live well with others in the society.

Uwishatya bhokwe bhunubho, bhugang’wenheleja gulila ng’hungu iyo idiya nduguye. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayomgaga giki, ‘gwishatya go ng’wana Ndile agalia ng’hungu idiya nduguye.’

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agitulaga bhumani bho bhuli ginhu, nulu mhayo, gashinaga adagumanile.

Chanzo cha methali hiyo chatokea kwenye uliaji wa mwana Ndile, ambao haukuwa wa ndugu yake. Mwana Ndile alijitia kulia kwenye kilio cha watu waliofiwa na ndugu zao. Kila mmoja alitakiwa kulia kwenye kifo cha mtu, ambaye ni ndugu yake.

Hivyo kujitia kwake mtu huyo, kulimleteleza kulia kwenye kilio ambacho siyo cha ndugu yake. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘kujitia kujua kwa mwana Ndile alilia kwenye kilio ambacho siyo cha nduguye.’

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hujidai kufahamu kila kitu, au neno, wakati halifahamu vizuri. Mtu huyo hutaka aongee yeye tu, kwenye kila jambo.

Yeye huwadharau wengine. Ndiyo maana akikosea kitu fulani, watu husema kwamba, ‘kujitia kujua kwa mwana Ndile alilia kwenye kilio ambacho siyo cha nduguye.’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha tabia ya kujitia kujua, kwenye kila neno, ili waweze kuwa na unyenyekevu wa kuwawezesha kujifunza vizuri, kutoka kwa wale wanaoelewa.

ENGLISH: STEPPING INTO OTHERS’ MATTERS MADE NG’WANA NDILE MOURN A MOURNING WHICH IS NOT OF HIS RELATIVE

The source of the proverb comes from the mourning of the son of Ndile. The son of Ndile moarned for a mourning that he was not supposed to moarn for. In this society, moarning was reserved to people who happened to have lost one of their relatives but the son of Ndile, because of his behaviour of pretending to be omniscient (someone who knows everything), he joined the moarners for the death of a person he doesn’t know.

This proverb can be compared to a person who claims to know everything while in actual fact he/she is not. This is why people who pretend to know everything in life are being warned by telling them not to be like Ndile’s son because one day they can be ashamed by their behaviour.

The proverb teaches people about giving up the habit of pretending to know everything in life. They need to be patient and wait for those with knowledge about something to tell them the truth about something. This can help one to learn from others and understand things better.
