463. UYAGACHOBHAGA MBUKI ADANOGAGA.

Imbuki ya kahayile kenako, yilolile bhubhoji bho mbuki ya ginhu, nulu mhayo nhebhe. Ubhuchoji bho mbuki bhonubho, bhugamanaga bhunchala bhutongi, unchoji oyo, kunguno bhuli jito, jili na guno yajo. Hunagwene abhanhu, bhagayombaga giki, ‘uyagachobhaga mbuki adanogaga.’

Akahayile kenako, kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo atogilwe yombo bhuli likanza. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agabhizaga na widumi na bhanhu, umukikalile kakwe, kunguno ya wikolosha bhokwe.

Uweyi, agalenganijiyagwa na munhu uyo agachobhaga mbuki bho nduhu ugunoga, kunguno nang’hwe adanogaga, uguyuyoga na bhanhu. Hunagwene abhanhu abhagang’wilaga giki, ‘uyagachobhaga mbuki adanogaga.’

Akahayile kenako, kalanga bhanhu higulya ya kuleka nhungwa ja gutoga yombo ya gwiduma na bhanhu, kugiki, bhadule gwikala bho mholele na bhichabho, umuwijaji bhobho.

Chanzo cha msemo huo, chaangalia utafutaji wa chanzo cha kitu au neno fulani. Utafutaji huo, huendelea kumpeleka mbele mtafutaji wake huyo, kwa sababu kila tendo, au neno lina chanzo chake, au sababu ya kuwepo kwake. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘mtafuta chanzo hachoki.’

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hupenda ugomvi kila wakati. Mtu huyo, huwa na ugomvi na watu karibu kila wakati, kwa sababu ya ukorofi wake.

Yeye hulinganishwa na mtu yule atafutaye chanzo cha kila tendo au neno, bila kuchoka, kwa sababu naye, huwa hachoki kuishi katika ugomvi na watu mbalimbali. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, ‘mtafuta chanzo hachoki.’

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha tabia za kupenda kelele za kutafuta ugomvi na watu, ili waweze kuishi kwa amani na wenzao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: HE WHO LOOKS FOR QUARREL DOES NOT GET TIRED.

The source of this proverb is a person who looks for source of something. It makes someone keep on looking for it until he/she reaches a point of knowing the source of what he/she is looking for. Such a person can be described using the proverb that ‘he who looks for quarrel does not get tired.’

The proverb can be compared to a person who likes quarrels. Such a person always has quarrels with people because of his/her nuisance. Such a person can dig deeper without getting tired despite being hated by some people who might be not interested in that truth.

The proverb teaches people about ignoring the quarrel-seeking behaviours. This will enable people to have a peaceful life in their families.

Chanzo cha msemo huo, chatokea kwenye utafutaji wa mboga. Familia ikipata mgeni, hutafuta mboga kwa kumchinjia kuku, mbuzi, au ng’ombe.

Mfugo huo, ni nyama iyopikwa kama mboga ya mgeni huyo, ambaye huitumia wakati wa kula ugali wanaompelekea. Ndiyo maana watu wakipata mgeni, husema kwamba, ‘tutafute mboga.’

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa na familia ya watu, ambao wana ukarimu wa kuwakaribisha vizuri, wageni wao. Watu waliopo kwenye familia hiyo, huwapokea vizuri wageni wao, kwa kuwapatia chakula. Ndiyo maana watu hao, wakipata wageni husema kwamba, ‘tutafute mboga.’

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na ukarimu wa kuwawezesha kuwapokea vizuri, wageni wao, na kuwaandalia chakula kizuri, ili watu hao wasipate matatizo, kwenye ugeni wao huo.

ENGLISH: LET’S LOOK FOR MEAT.

The source of this saying is looking for meat to feed the visitor. When a family gets a visitor, they are expected to look for something precious to be eaten by the visitor. It can be chicken, goat, cow, etc. Then the meat has to be cooked as sauce to be eaten with ugali. Meat is regarded as something precious to honour the visitor. This is why people will say ‘let us look for meat’ in order to show appreciation to the visitor for paying visit to their family.

The saying can be compared to a family of people who are hospitable to their visitors. The members of the family can provide visitors with good food to enjoy their stay.

The saying teaches people about generosity by welcoming visitors and giving them good food and other services that can make them enjoy their stay.

Imbuki ya kahayile kenako yilolile mbuli yamhunga, na kalwile kayo. Imbuli yiniyo, idina mapembe, aliyo imanile noyi ugulwa, kunguno iyoyi igakobhaga mhembe ijo jili nhali guti ja nja. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘mhunga njobha igakobhaga mhembe.’

Akahayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kukaya ya ng’wa munhu, uyo aling’wobha. Ikaya yiniyo igabhizaga imanile uguchola nzila ja gwipija na bhanishi bhayo, kihamo nija gwiyinja umumakoye ga bhuli mbika.

Iyoyi, igalenganijiyagwa na mbuli ya mhunga, iyo igakobhaga mhembe guti ja nja, kunguno nayo, ikaya yiniyo igabhalanghanhaga abhanhu bhayo, bho gutumila nzila ningi.

Iyoyi imanile ugulwa na bhanishi bhayo, mpaga igabhapyenaga. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘mhunga njobha igakobhaga mhembe.’

MBUZI MWOGA HUJUA NAMNA YA KUJIHAMI.

Chanzo cha msemo huo, chaangalia mbuzi asiye na pembe, na kupigana kwake. Mbuzi huyo, hana pembe, lakini anafahamu sana kupigana na adui zake, kwa sababu yeye, hutafuta pembe zilizokali kama za paa. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘mbuzi mwoga hujua namna ya kujihami.’

Msemo huyo hulinganishwa na familia ambao ni wa mtu mwoga. Familia hiyo, inafahamu namna ya kutafuta njia za kupigana na adui, pamoja na zile za kutatua matatizo ya wanafamilia wake.

Familia hiyo, hulinganishwa na mbuzi mwoga aliyetafuta pembe za paa kwa kupigana na adui zake, kwa sababu nayo, hutafuta njia mbalimbali za kuwalinda wanafahamilia dhidi ya watu waovu.

Yenyewe hutatua matazizo ya wanafamilia. Hivyo, yenyewe inaelewa namna ya kupigana na adui, mpaka kumshinda. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘mbuzi mwoga hujua namna ya kujihami.

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na ubunifu wa kuwawezesha kuzilinda familia zao, kwa kuzilea vizuri, ili zisiharibiwe na watu wenye nia mbaya.

ENGLISH: A COWARD GOAT KNOWS HOW TO DEFEND HIMSELF.

The source of this saying is a hornless goat that defends itself from enemies when fighting. This hornless goat, when fighting with its enemies, knows which trick to use to defeat its enemy. It can even borrow sharp horns like those of gazelle and be able to outwit its enemy. This is why people can describe this scenario using the saying that ‘a coward knows how to defend himself.’

The saying can be compared to a coward family that knows how to protect itself against external forces that are likely to disturb it. This family can have its tactics of defence in the same way the goat does in defending itself to the extent of borrowing weapons from other animals. Therefore, this family can have its own ways of solving problems without depending on others.

The saying teaches people about being creative to protect their families by raising them properly. They raise their family members in a way that ensures that they are not destroyed by evil-minded people.

Akahayile kenako, kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu, uyo adalendaga aha kaya yakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikalaga uyunga uko nuko, ijo agajicholaga agabhizaga ajimanile weyi ng’winikili. Ulu ukenya hanhu, abhanhu bhagung’wila giki, otogagwa weyi ‘guichobhela magulu,’ imihayo yiniyo.

Watu wakimuona akikwaluza ardhi kwa kutumia miguu yake hiyo, katika kutafuta kwake, watasema kwamba, ameanza ‘kuitafutia miguu,’ mali hiyo.

Msemo huyo hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye, hatulii nyumbani kwake. Mtu huyo, huwa anazunguka kwa kuzurura katika sehemu mbalimbali, akitafuta kile anachokifahamu mwenyewe.  Lakini akizua ugomvi, au matatizo fulani, watu watasema kwamba, amependa mwenyewe, ‘kuitafutia miguu,’ kesi hiyo.

Msemo huo hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha tabia ya kuzurura bila sababu, ili wasijitafutie matatizo ambayo, ni ya kujitakia wenyewe, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: SEARCHING IT BY USING LEGS.

The source of this saying is searching something using one’s legs. When a person is looking for something, he/she can use many means, even using his feet to find out what he/she is looking for.

When people see him/her scratching the land, searching using his own feet they will say that he/she has begun ‘to search it by using legs.’

This saying can be comparable to a person who doesn’t settle in his/her house rather wanders around, looking for something he/she knows himself/herself. When he/she encounters problems, people will say, he/she loved himself/herself to be in problems. In other words, he/she searched for her own problems.

The proverb teaches people to stop wandering for no reason. They need to stay home where necessary in order to avoid some unnecessary problems.

Ulusumo lunulo, lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo ali ng’wana o ntale guti ntemi. Ung’wana ng’wunuyo adikomile uguja ubhusese, nulu guchola milimo iyo ikolile na bhusese, kunguno ali ng’wana o ntale. Gashinaga lulu, ung’wana o ntale nang’hwe ali ntale. Hunagwene abhanhu abhagayombaga giki, ‘ng’wana wa ntemi adajaga bhusese.’

Lakini basi, watoto wa wafalme, hawakuenda utumwani kwa sababu nao wanaweza kushika nafasi ya ukubwa huo wa kuwa wafalme, kwenye siku za mbeleni. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘mtoto wa mfalme haendi utumwani.’

Methali hiyo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye ni mtoto wa kiongozi mkubwa, anayelingana na mfalme. Mtoto huyo hawezi kuchukuliwa kwenda utumwani. Wala hawezi kufanya kazi za watumwa, kwa sababu ni mtoto wa mkubwa. Kumbe mtoto wa mkubwa, naye ni mkubwa. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘mtoto wa mfalme haendi utumwani.’

Methali hiyo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na heshima kwa watu wao, hasa wakubwa wao, ili waweze kuishi kwa amani na wenzao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: THE KING’S SON CANNOT BE TAKEN AS A SLAVE.

The source of the proverb looks at the way the son of the King can be treated different from other people. In the past, during slave trade period, sons of Kings could not be taken as slaves. One of the reasons for them being reserved from been abducted is, they were potential of becoming Kings in future. Therefore, this scenario of protecting royal families was summarized using the proverb ‘the King’s son cannot be taken as a slave.’

This proverb can be likened to a man who is a son of a great leader, like the king. The child can neither be taken into captivity nor do works of slaves because they can also occupy positions held by their fathers in future.’

This proverb teaches people to respect their people and their positions, especially their elders, so that they can live in peace with their neighbours in their lives.
