343. NIYAKALE NAYO NG’HINDA,

Imbuki ya lusumo lunulo yingilile ku ng’hinda. Ing’hinda yiniyo igab’izaga na kalilile kayo, ulu yukumiwa na munhu. Mumo igakuluhalila idugalucha akalilile kayo kenako. Ukwene huguhaya giki, nulu igakuluhala igwitanwa ng’hinda duhu. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagab’awilaga abhichab’o abho bhagajilekanijiga ing’hinda jabho ijakale giki, ‘niyakale nayo ng’hinda.’

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo ukula ub’iza nhamhala, nulu ngikulu, umuchalo. Uyo okula ng’unuyo alitanwa munhu duhu mumo agakulila. Yigelelilwe nabho bhalang’hanwe chiza, abhanhu bhenabho, kunguno bhali sawa na bhichabho abho bhatali bhadoo. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘niyakale nayo ng’hinda.’

Ulusumo lunulo lolanga bhanhu higulya ya kub’alanghana chiza bhatale bhabho abho bhalikihamo na wabyaji bhabho, mumo bhagakulila, kunguno ‘niyakale nayo ng’hinda.’

KISWAHILI: NA YAZAMANI NAYO NJUGA

Chanzo cha methali hiyo chatokea kwenye njuga. Njuga ni kengele ambayo hutoa mlima wake ikiguswa au kutikiswa. Hivyo, njuga hiyo huwa na mlio wake wa pekee. Hata iwe kuukuu kiasi gani, itaitwa njuga tu, kwa sababu hali hiyo haukani ule unjuga wake. Ndiyo maana watu huwaambia wale wazitelekezao njuga zao zilizo za zamani kwamba, ‘na yazamani nayo njuga.’

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa mtu aliyezeeka katika jamii fulani. Mtu huyo huendelea kuitwa mtu hata kama amezeeka namna gani. Yafaa watu waliona nguvu hasa vijana, waendelee kuwantunza mzee wao huo, kwa sababu wao ni watu waliosawa na wao wenyewe. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘na yazamani nayo njuga.’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kuwatunza vizuri wazee wao katika jamii, wakiwemo wazazi, hata kama wamezeeka kiasi gani, kwa sababu, ‘na yazamani nayo njuga.

ENGLISH: AN OLD ANKLE BELL IS ALSO AN ANKLE BELL.

The source of the proverb comes from an iron ankle bell. Such a bell gives a certain musical sound when it is shaken. It always has a unique sound regardless of whether it is old or new. This is why people tell others that ‘an old ankle bell is also an ankle bell’ to mean that they don’t have to ignore the old ones because they have the same effect as the new ones.

This proverb is likened to an old man in the society. Old men continue to be counted as human beings regardless of their age. Youngsters need to take care of the old ones and consider them as human beings that can have positive effects in the society. This is why people say, ‘an old ankle bell is also an ankle bell.’

The proverb teaches youngsters to take care of old people because, apart from being fellow human beings, they have positive impacts to the society.

Aliyo lulu, ulu lulimugati ya ng’wa munhu ulupundu lunulo, bhadudeb’a abhangi igiki alitula lupundu. Hunagwene abhanhu bhayombaga giki, ‘lupundu lwa munda ludigwiwagwa.’

Akahayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kubhuyegi ubho bhulimung’holo ya ng’wa munhu.  Ulu adabhufunijije  hanze mudubhub’ona na hangi mudubhudeb’a. Gashinaga lulu ilichiza umunhu ng’wunuyo abhuyombe bho gutumila ilaka lwakwe. Huanawene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘lupundu lwa munda ludigwiwagwa.’

Akahayile kenako kalanga bhanhu higulya ya gubhuyomba ubhuyegi bhobho bho malaka gabho.

KISWAHILI: KIGELEGELE CHATUMBONI HAKISIKIWI

Chanzo cha msemo huo chatokea kwenye upigaji wa vigelegele. Kigelegele hupigwa na mtu ambaye amefurahia kitu au tukio furani maishani mwake. Watu watavisikia vigelegele hivyo. Lakini basi, kigelegele hicho kikiwa ndani ya mtu furani, hawataelewa wengine kuwa mtu huyo amefurahia kitu fulani, ana sababu hiyo ya amepiga kigelegele. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba. ‘Kigelege cha tumboni hakisikiwi.’

Msemo huo hulinganishwa na furaha iliyomo kwenye roho ya mtu. Asipoionesha furaha hiyo hamtaelewa. Kumbe basi, ni vizuri mtu huyo aiseme furaha hiyo sauti yake. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘lupundu lwa munda ludigwiwagwa.’

Msemo huo hufundisha watu juu ya kuelezea furaha yao kwa sauti zao wenyewe.

ENGLISH: AN INSIDE JOY CANNOT BE HEARED.

The source of the above saying comes from someone who would like to express his/her joy. Under normal circumstances, joy is always shared with others. It can be voiced up for others to hear and enjoy as well. But when joy is internally expressed, others will not have a chance to hear or enjoy it. This is why people say, ‘an inside joy cannot be heared.’

This saying can be likened to the joy that is in someone’s soul. It cannot be heared unless one deliberately shares with others. This saying teaches people about expressing their happiness in their own words.

341. NG’OSHA YA MVA IDIGUSHAGA NA MBUNDA.

Imbuki ya lusumo lunulo yingilile kuwikaji bho mva ng’osha na mbunda. Imva ing’osha yiniyo igikalaga ilemile ugwigusha ni mbunda, munho igubhaluma bhandya guipela. Igubhalija kunguno iyoyi ilimyaji yabho. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘ng’osha ya mva idigushaga na mbunda.’

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kuli namugi ohakaya uyo alina bhana wake. Unamugi ng’wunuyo alinikujo lwakwe ahakaya yakwe yiniyo. Kuyiniyo lulu, idichiza ugwigusha na bhana wake unamhala ng’wunuyo, kunguno bhagundalaha. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘ng’osha ya mva idigushaga na mbunda.’

KISWAHILI: DUME LA MVA HALICHEZI NA WATOTO WA MBWA

Chanzo cha methali hiyo chatokea kwenye maisha ya dume la mbwa na watoto wa mbwa. Dume hilo hukataa kucheza na watoto wa mbwa, kwa sababu lenyewe ni kubwa kwao, vinginevyo litawauma mpaka wataanza kulikimbia. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘dume la mbwa halichezi na watoto wa mbwa.’

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa mzee mwenye familia na watoto wake. Mzee huyo huwa na heshima yake kwenye familiya yake, iyomuwezesha kuwalea vizuri watoto wake pamoja na familia yote. Kwa hiyo basi, siyo vizuri kucheza na watoto wake mzee huyo, kwa sababu akifanya hivyo watoto hao watamdharau maishani mwake. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘dume la mbwa halichezi na watoto wa mbwa.’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha mazoea ya hovyo na watoto wao, ili waweze kuwalea vema kwa kujenga heshima inayotakiwa katika familia yote, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: A MALE DOG DOES NOT PLAY WITH PUPPIES

The source of the above proverb comes from the life of male dog and puppies. The male dog refuses to play with puppies because it is too big for them, otherwise it will bite them until they run away. This is why people say, ‘a male dog does not play with puppies.’

The proverb is likened to a family elder and his children. Elders tend to maintain their  respect to families in order to be able to take care of them. Therefore, it is not good for elders to play with children because they can disrespect them. This is why people warn elders by saying that ‘a male dog does not play with puppies.’

The proverb teaches people to stop being so intimate with children. This will help them from not being disrespected and disturb the whole process of taking care of them.

Imbuki ya kahayile kenako yingilile kubhusesemiwa b’o mva. Imva yiniyo ulu ugayiwa jiliwa, igasesemaga ukunhu yasamaga, kugiki ipandike hewa. Igasusub’aga uko ijile ulu yitubhile. Gashinaga lulu, inzala yayo hiyo igisesemyaga imva yinilo. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagibhujaga giki, kasesemya mva okabhonela he?’

Akahayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agigusijaga sabho sagala. Umunhu ng’wunuyo agitaga giko kunguno atali uguibhona inzala, ulu nioyibhona, nagajilanghanaga chiza isabho jinijo. Hungwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga giki, ‘akasesemya mva okabhonela he?’

Msemo huo hulinganishwa kwa mtu ambaye huzichezea mali hovyo maishani mwake. Mtu huyo hufanya hivyo kwa sababu yeye hajaona njaa inavyowatesa watu, maishani. Angekuwa ameiona angekuwa anazilinda mali hizo. Ndiyo maana watu humuuliza kwamba, ‘kasesemya mbwa umekaona wapi?’

ENGLISH: WHERE DID YOU SEE WHAT MAKES DOGS TO SALIVATE?

The source of the saying comes from dog’s salivation. When a dog misses food it salivates. In fact, it is its hunger that stimulates the dog to salivate. This is why people ask one another, ‘where did you see what makes dogs salivate’?

The saying is compared to a person who disrespects his/her possessions in life. Such a person does so because he/she has never seen how people suffer in life. Such people are being warned by asking them that ‘where did you see what makes dogs salivate?’

The saying teaches people about understanding how to protect their property for the aim of making their prosperous future.

Akahayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kulimunhu uyo atogilwe gunwana na bhanhu abho b’alinakajile kabhub’i. Umunhu ng’wunuyo agab’akalib’ushaga abhanwani b’akwe bhenabho bhaja ahakaya yakwe, nang’hwe atogilwe gujubhahoyela ukukaya jabho. Hunagwene abhanhu abho badeb’ile ubhub’ihya bho bhanwani bhakwe bhenabho, bhagang’wilaga giki, ‘ingaga ahayombo uguja b’umbona.’

This saying comes from people who are in a chaotic place. Chaos can result into fight among people thus making those people around the fighting scene to be involved as witnesses. To avoid from being involved in the case, people will say ‘leave the chaotic place before being involved as a witness.’

The saying is compared to someone who likes keeping company with bad-mannered people in the society. Such people with a tendency of keeping company with bad-mannered people are being warned by telling them that ‘leave the chaotic place before being involved as a witness.’

The saying teaches people to find good friends who can help them to have good and friendly relationship with neighbors.
