367. IYILALILE IGANYELAGWA NI YIMILILE.

Imbuki ya lusumo lunulo yingilile kuwikaji bho mitugo.  Imitugo jinijo ulu jilimulugutu lojo, ijingi jigabhizaga jilalile, ijingi jimilile. Ijo jimilile jigajinyelaga ijo jilalile. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘iyilalile iganyelagwa ni yimilile.’

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo alilembekejiwa limhayo ilo adalitumamile, kugiki wipije uyo olitumama. Umunhu uyo olitumama ilimhayo linilo, agiyejaga duhu ukubhanhu, kugiki bhamone munhu owiza, aliyo gashinaga ali munhu nomolomo. KISWAHILI: ILIYOLALA HUNYEWA NA ILIYOSIMAMA.

Chanzo cha methali hiyo chatokea kwenye maisha ya mifugo. Mifugo hao wakiwa zizini mwao, wengine huwa wamesimama, na wengine huwa wamelala. Wale waliosimama huwanyea wale waliolala. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘iliyolala hunyewa na iliyosimama.’

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule aliyesingiziwa neno ambalo hakulifanya, ili yule aliyelifanya ajiokoe. Mtu huyo aliyetenda kitendo hicho hujiosha tu kwa watu, ili aonekane kuwa ni mtu mwema, lakini kumbe ni muongo. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘iliyolala hunyewa na iliyosimama.’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha kusema uongo, ili waweze kuiishi amri ya nane ya Mungu, ikatazayo kusema uongo.

ENGLISH: THE STANDING ONES WILL DEFALCATE ON THEIR SLEEPING COUNTERPARTS.

The source of this proverb comes from animal life. When animals are in their kraal, some will be standing while others are sleeping. Those that are standing can defalcate on the sleeping ones. This is why people can say, ‘the standing ones will defalcate on their sleeping counterparts.’

This proverb can be compared to a person who is insinuated to have done something while not. This is done in order to save someone from being given a negative label in the society.

Such a person who has done such a bad thing (might be a leader or someone who is highly respected in the society) would like to fool people around him/her by appearing smart all the time while in actual fact he/she is not. This is why one can warn such people by telling that ‘the standing ones will defalcate on their sleeping counterparts.’

This proverb teaches people to stop lying so that they can live the eighth commandment of God which prohibits people from lying.

366. BHUSUMABHU YALALILAGA LUGOYE.

Abhana b’usumab’u bhali bhasala bha gub’ub’isa ubhung’hana. Ulu munhu ubhabhuja ginhu bhayombaga giki, bhadamanile. Gashinaga bhamanile aliyo bhalib’isa, guti gulalila lugoye. Hunagwene abhanhu ulu bhumhona munhu alib’isa ginhu, bhagayombaga giki, ‘b’usumab’u yalalilaga lugoye.’

Chanzo cha methali hiyo chatokea kwenye maisha ya wale watokao busumabu. Watu hao ni wa tarafa ya Busumabu, Wilaya ya Kwimba, mkoani Mwanza. Watu hao walikuwa wajanza wa kuuficha ukweli. Mtu akiwauliza jambo fulani, wao walijibu kwamba, hawalifahamu. Kumbe wanalifahamu, lakini wao hulificha kama kulalila kamba. Ndiyo maana watu wakimuona mmoja anaonekana kuwa na hali ya kuficha kitu, husema, ‘busumabu imelalia kamba.’

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule asiye sema ukweli maishani mwake. Mtu huyo huwaficha wenzake ukweli ule watakao kuufahamu, ambao utawasaidia maishani mwao. Ndiyo maana watu hao husema kwamba, ‘busumabu imelalia kamba.’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kuwaambia watu wao ukweli uwezao kuwasaidia katika kuishi kwa amani na wenzao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: BHUSUMABHU HAS SLEPT ON THE ROPE

The source of the above saying comes from the lives of people who come from a place known as Bhusumabhu; a division in Kwimba District, Mwanza Region.

Those people were clever enough to hide truth from other people. When they were asked about something their reply would always be ‘I don’t know/understand.’ But, in fact, they know/understand it. Rather, they hide it like sleeping on a rope. This is why when people see someone who appears to be clever enough to hide truth from others they can say ‘bhusumabhu has slept on a rope.’

The proverb is likened to a person who does not tell the truth in his/her life. Such a person hides truth from others, which, in so doing, can deny them success in life. This is why a person can warn such people by telling that ‘bhusumabhu has slept on a rope.’

The proverb teaches people about telling truth that can help them live in peace with their neighbors in their lives.

365. ILELO OTUMAMA NA LO NYUMA.

Imbuki ya kahayile kenako yingilile kubhutumami bho nimo mulushigu lo Nyuma. Ulu munhu uyo adasalilaga umona ng’wiye otumamaga nimo ntale, agung’wila giki, otumamaga na lushigu ulo guleka milimo. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘ilelo otumama na lo Nyuma,’ mumho otumamaga nimo ntale.

Akahayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agatumamaga milimo ukunhu ankujije Mulungu. Umunhu ng’wunuyo agabhalanjaga na bhiye ahigulya ya kub’iza na bhukamu bho gutumama milimo yabho umushigu ija milimo, kugiki, bhaje bhagasalile ulushigu ulo Nyuma. Hunagwene umunhu ng’wunuyo ulu omona ng’wiye alikumilimo umulushugu ulo Nyuma, agang’wilaga giki, ‘ilelo otumama na lo Nyuma.’

Akahayile kenako kalanga bhanhu higulya ya gunkuja Mulungu umumilimo yabho, kugiki bhadule gupandika matwajo mingi umuwikaji bhobho.

KISWAHILI: LEO UMEFANYA KAZI NA JUMAPILI.

Chanzo cha msemo huo chatokea kwenye ufanyaji wa kazi kwenye siku ya Jumapili. Mtu ambaye hasali akimuona mwenzake amefanya kazi kubwa, humwambia kwamba, “leo umefanya kazi na Jumapili,’ maana yake amefanya kazi kubwa.’

Msemo huo hulinganishwa kwa mtu ambaye hufanya kazi zake kwa kumtukuza Mungu. Mtu huyo huwafundisha pia wenzake juu ya kuwa na bidii ya kufanya kazi zao, kwenye siku za kawaida ili siku ya Jumapili waende kusali. Ndiyo maana mtu huyo akimuona mtu amefanya kazi siku hiyo ya Jumapili, humwambia kwamba, ‘leo umefanya kazi na Jumapili.’

Msemo huo hufundisha watu juu ya kumtukuza Mungu wafanyapo kazi zao, ili waweze kupata mafanikio mengi maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: TODAY YOU HAVE WORKED ON SUNDAY.

The source of the above saying comes from working on Sunday. A person who sees another person doing a great job can tell him/her that ‘today you have worked on Sunday ‘ to mean appreciation for his/her working hard on week days to compensate for Sunday.

The saying can be compared to a person who does his/her work in the glory of God. Such a person also teaches people how to work hard in week days in order to rest on Sunday; a day set for prayers for Christians. This is why when people see another person working hard in week days they can tell him/her that ‘today you have worked on Sunday.’

The saying teaches people to glorify God as they work so that they can have more success in life.

Uvunjaji huo wa mkia uko sawa na kuiamusha hiyo iliyolala, kwa sababu ya kupata maumivu yatokanayo na kukunjwa kwa mkia huo. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘iliyolala haivunjwi mkia,’ kwa sababu ikikunjwa itapata maumivu ya kuiamusha haraka.

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa mtu ambaye ametulia sehemu fulani. Mtu huyo haipendezi kumlazimisha kufanya kitu ambacho yeye hataki kukifanya. Kumbe basi, ni vizuri kwa mtu huyo kumuacha aamue yeye mwenyewe kile apendacho kukitekeleza, au kazi ambayo yeye apenda kuifanya. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘iliyolala haivunjwi mkia.’

Msemo huo hufundisha watu juu ya kutumia uhuru wao vizuri, katika kuishi maisha wayachaguayo, au kufanya kazi waonayo kuwa wao itawasaidia, katika kuyaendesha maisha yao, ili mladi hawavunji sheria za nchi, au za maisha yale waliyoyachagua wao wenyewe.

ENGLISH: A TAIL OF THE SLEEPING ONE IS NOT BROKEN.

The source of the above saying comes from failing to break the tail of a sleeping animal, for example, ship. The breaking of the tail is the same as forcing the sleeping animal to wake up and respond promptly. This response can be due to pain the animal can go through. This is why people say ‘a tail of the sleeping one is not broken’ because if it is twisted it will have the pain that can force the animal to move away as quickly as possible.

The saying can be likened to a quiet person. Such a person does not like to be forced to do something he does not want to do. It is better to leave people have freedom to decide on what things they would like to do in their lives.

The saying teaches people how to exercise their freedom by living the life they choose, or to do the work that they think will benefit them in running their lives in a manner that does not violate the laws of their nations or of their own chosen life.

363. NILEKEJEGE BURE.

Imbuki ya kahayile kenako yingilile kubhulombi bho ng’wa munhu gulekejiwa na ng’wiye, uyo omhub’aga. Umhub’i ng’wunuyo amanile igiki adadulile ugunhipa ung’wiye uyo onhub’aga ng’wunuyo. Hunagwene agalomba bhulekejiwa bho kuhaya giki, ‘nilekejage b’ure.’

Akahayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo alina bidohya bho gudula kubhumana ubhuhub’i bhokwe, na gulomba bhulekejiwa bho b’ure, kufumila kub’iye abho obhahubaga. Umunhu ng’wunuyo agabhalangaga na bhiye akikalile kagwilekeja bhuli ng’wene uyoohub’aga na gulomba bhulekejiwa bhunubho. Hunagwene agayombaga giki, ‘nilekejage b’ure.’

Akahayile kenako kalanga bhanhu higulya ya gub’iza na widohya bho gulomba ubhulekejiwa bho b’ure, gwingila kubhichabho abho bhabhahub’aga, na gubhalekeja abhichabho abho bhalilomba bhulekejiwa bhunubho.

Msemo huo hulinganishwa kwa mtu ambaye ana unyenyekevu wa kufahamu kosa lake, na kuomba msamaha wa bure kutoka kwa wenzake aliowakosea. Mtu huyo huwafundisha pia wenzake namna ya kuishi kwa kusameheana bure kila mmoja aliyekosea, na kuomba msamaha huo. Ndiyo maana mtu huyo husema kwamba, ‘nisamehe bure.’

Msemo huo hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na unyenyekevu wa kuomba kusamehewa bure na wenzao waliowakosea, na wao kuwasamehe pia wale wanaomba msahama huo.

ENGLISH: FORGIVE ME UNCONDITIONALLY.

The source of the above saying comes from an apology of the offender. Such a person understands that he/she cannot repay for his/her offence committed. This is why such a person can ask for an unconditional forgiveness by saying ‘forgive me unconditionally.’

This saying can be comparable to a person who has humility to admit that he/she has done something wrong and therefore asking for forgiveness. Such a person also teaches people on how to forgive others.

The saying teaches people to have humility by asking for unconditional forgiveness from their offended counterparts. They should also forgive others.
