511. KALAGU – KIZE. NUMBA YANE ILI NA NG’HINGI IMO:- B’OB’A.

Imbuki ya kalagu yiniyo ilolile kigelele ka b’ob’a. Ub’ob’a jili ginhu ijo jigazwaga hasi jimila zigi, guti ng’hingi. Ijoyi jigazwaga mumakanza ga jidiku ulu yutula mbula nhale, kunguno ya fulo ya mbula yiniyo. Giko lulu, jigikolanijiyagwa na numba ya ng’hingi, kunguno jigimilaga chiza zigi guti ni ng’hingi. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagiganilaga giki, ‘numba yane ili na ng’hingi imo’ bhashosha giki ‘B’ob’a’.

Ikalagu yiniyo, igalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo alina bhushikanu bho gwima zigi umu bhuzunya bhokwe, nu mukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, alemile ugushoka numa, nulu uguchalanijiwa na mahuli, umukikalile ka bhuzunya bhokwe.

Uweyi agimaga zigi umubhukamu bho gutumama milimo yakwe. Agawikalanaga ubhung’hana bho gwikala na bhanhu chiza umugunamya Unsumbi wi Gulu na Nsi.

Agikolaga ni ng’hingi iyo igilang’hanaga inumba ngima, iya b’ob’a, kunguno nang’hwe wimilile zigi umubhuzunya n’umukikalile kakwe. Agabhalanjaga na bhiye nzila ja gwima zigi pye amakanza umubhuzunya nu mukikalile akabhuli lushigu. Hunagwene agabhaganilaga abhanhu giki, ‘numba yane ili na ng’hingi imo’ bhashosha, ‘B’ob’a.’

Ikalagu yiniyo yalanga bhanhu gwima zigi umubhuzunya bhobho n’umukikalile kabho, kugiki bhadule gushika ng’wigulu. Yigelelilwe bhabhize higiki makanza gose aga wikaji bhobho, kugiki bhadizubhiza bhadedelehu umuguzunya gobho.

Chanzo cha kitendawili hiki chaangalia mwonekano wa uyoga. Uyoga ni mmea unaoota chini, na kusimama imara kama nguzo. Wenyewe huota kipindi cha masika zinaponyesha mvua kubwa, kwa sababu ya unyevu. Uyoga hufananishwa na nguzo, kwa sababu ya kusimama kwake imara kama nguzo. Ndiyo maana watu hutegeana kitendawili kwamba, ‘nyumba yangu ina nguzo moja’ na kujibu, ‘Uyoga’.

Kitendawili hiki hufananishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye ana ukomavu wa kusimama imara katika imani, na katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, huwa hataki kurudi nyuma wala kuyumbushwa na mawimbi ya namna mbalimbali katika maisha na imani yake.

Yeye husimama imara katika utekelezaji wa majukumu yake. Hivyo, mtu huyo huuishi ukweli kwa kuishi na watu vizuri katika kumwamini Muumba wa Mbingu na Dunia.

Ndiyo maana yeye hufanana na nguzo inayoilinda nyumba ya uyoga, kwa sababu naye husimama imara katika imani yake na maishani mwake. Yeye pia huwafundisha watu wengine kuwa imara siku zote katika imani yao na maishani mwao. Ndiyo maana watu hutegeana kitendawili kwamba, ‘nyumba yangu ina nguzo moja’ na kujibu, ‘Uyoga.’

Kitendawili hiki hufundisha watu kusimama imara katika imani yao kwa Muumba wao, ili waweze kufika mbinguni. Yafaa watu hao wawe macho wakati wote wa maisha yao, ili wasije wakawa walegevu katika imani yao.

ENGLISH: I HAVE A RIDDLE – LET IT COME: MY HOUSE HAS ONE PILLAR – A MUSHROOM.

The origin of this riddle is the appearance of mushrooms. Mushrooms are fungi that grow on the ground, and stand like pillars. They usually grow during rainy season when it rains heavily, because of the soil moisture. They are likened to pillars because they stand strongly on the ground like pillars. That is why people pose a riddle, ‘My house has one pillar’ and reply, ‘A mushroom’.

This riddle is used to liken the mushroom to a person who is mature in terms of religious faith and stands firm to it in his/her life. Such a person does not turn his/her back. Neither is his/her faith swayed by any kinds of waves.

He/she stands firm in discharging his/her duties. Thus, he/she lives the truth by relating well with others while having confidence in the Creator of Heaven and Earth. That is why he/she is like a pillar supporting the mushroom, because he/she too stands firm in his/her faith and in his/her life. The person also teaches others about always being strong in their faith and in life. That is why people pose this riddle, ‘My house has one pillar’  and reply, ‘A mushroom.’

This riddle teaches people about standing firm in their faith and having confidence in their Creator, so that they can be received in heaven. It is necessary for such people to be vigilant for the rest of their lives, lest they become weak in their faith.

Ub’ob’a lili liginhu ilo ligazwaga hasi, ilo likolile ni isumbi ilya kale.  Ubhoyi bhunubo bhugazwaga mumakanza ga jidiku, ulu mbula nhale yutula, kunguno ya fulo yiniyo. Ulu bhuzwa na gupya limi, bhuganyalaga na guma ung’wupolu ng’wunumo. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagiganilaga giki, ‘isumbi lyane lili ng’wipolu’ bhashosha, ‘B’ob’a.’

Ikalagu yiniyo igalenganijiyagwa kuwikaji bho ng’wa munhu ubhogubyalwa, ukula, mpaga nowe ucha. Umunhu uyo adebhile igiki bhuli munhu alacha, agikalaga na widohya umukikalile kakwe na bhanhu. Uweyi azunije ugwiyambilija nabhiye umubhutumami bho milimo yakwe, kunguno ya kuibhona isolobho iya gwikala bho mholele nabhiye bhenabho.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo agikikolaga nu b’ob’a ubho bhugigelaga gufumila kufulo ya mbula, kunguno n’uweyi agatumamaga milimo yakwe bho gung’wisanya Umsumbi okwe, uyo alinabhudula bho gwenha mbula, iyo igajibishaga ijiliwa jakwe. Uweyi agabhalanjaga abhanhu inzila ja gung’wisanya unsumbi obho, haho bhadina cha, kunguno bhuli ng’wene alacha. Ikalagu yiniyo yalanga bhanhu gubhiza na widohya bho gung’wisanya Unsumbi obho uyo agabhinhaga nguzu ja gwikala musi, kugiki bhadule gwikala bho mholele na bhichabho umubhulamu bhobho bhose.

KISWAHILI: KITENDAWILI  – TEGA: KITI KILICHO PORINI – UYOGA.

Chanzo cha kitendawili hiki chaangalia uyoga. Uyoga ni mmea ambao huota chini ambao hufanana na kigoda cha zamani, kwa baadhi ya jamii. Wenyewe huota wakati wa masika zinaponyesha mvua kubwa kutokana na unyevu wa mvua hizo. Ukiota na kupigwa na jua, huwa unasinyaa na kukauka ukiwa porini humo. Ndiyo maana watu hutegeana kitendawili kwamba, ‘kiti kilicho porini‘na kujibu, ‘uyoga.’

Kitendawili hicho hulinganishwa na maisha ya mwanadamu, tangu kuzaliwa kwake, kukua na kuishi hadi kufa. Mtu ambaye anafahamu kwamba kila mmoja atakufa, huishi kwa unyenyekevu na watu. Yeye hukubali kusaidiana na wenzake katika utekelezaji wa majukumu yake, kwa sababu ya kuona faida ya kuishi kwa amani na wenzake hao.

Mtu huyo hufanana na uyoga, ambao hupatikana kutokana na unyevu wa mvua, kwa sababu naye hufanya kazi kwa kumtegemea Muumba wake, ambaye anao uwezo wa kuleta mvua inayoivisha vyakula vyake. Yeye huwafundisha watu njia za kumtegemea Muumba wao kabla hawajafa, kwa sababu kila mmoja atakufa. Ndiyo maana watu hutegeana kitendawili kwamba, ‘kiti kilicho porini’ na kujibu, ‘Uyoga.’

Kitendawili hicho hufundisha watu kuwa na unyenyekevu wa kumtegemea Muumba wao awapatiaye nguvu za kuishi duniani, ili waweze kuishi kwa amani na wenzao muda wote wa uhai wao.

ENGLISH: I HAVE A RIDDLE – LET IT COME: A STOOL IN THE BUSH – A MUSHROOM.

The origin of this riddle is mushrooms. Mushrooms are fungi that grow on the ground, resembling a stool. They germinate during rainy season when it rains heavily, following the availability of soil moisture. When they grow and get exposed to sunlight, they tend to wither and dry there in the bush. Because they resemble stools, that’s why people pose a riddle, ‘a stool in the bush’ and reply, “a mushroom”.

This riddle is compared to human life, from birth to death. A person who realizes that everyone is going to die, lives humbly with other people. He helps other people, especially colleagues, in the execution of their duties for the sake of promoting harmonious  living with such colleagues. This person, like the mushrooms, depends on the soil moisture brought by the rains, and relies on his/her Creator who has the powers to bring rain that enables the germination, growth and flourishing of food crops which give him/her life. He/she teaches other people to trust their Creator before they die, because everyone will eventually die. That is why such individual would want to remind people that they are like that ‘stools in the hush’ – ‘mushrooms’ that grow and disappear.

This riddle, teaches people about the humility of relying on their Creator, who gives them the grace to live on earth, so that they can live in peace with their peers, all through their lives.

509. KALAGU – KIZE. NULU ALIMUMAKOYE AGIGETAGA DUHU:- BHAMBU.

Imbuki ya kalagu yiniyo ilolile bhambu. Ibhambu igasiminzaga bho gugendela ukunu ilikagijakagija. Umukasiminzile kenako, igabhizaga giti idina bhobha bhosebhose umugubhiza guti ili iligeta chiniko, aliyo ilimumakoye. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagiganilaga giki, ‘nulu alimumakoye agigetaga duhu’ bhashosha, ‘Bhambu’.

Ikalagu yiniyo igalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agatumamaga milimo yakwe bho gwideta chiza na wiyumilija bhutale umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo agatumamaga milimo yakwe bho gwiyumilija mpaka opandika matwajo mingi, ayo gadulile gung’wambilija ijinaguyibheja chiza ikaya yakwe.

Uweyi agaidetaga chiza imilimo yiniyo guti nakasiminzile akabhambu, kunguno nang’hwe adibamkilagwa duhu. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagiganilaga giki, ‘nulu alimumakoye agigetaga duhu’ bhashosha, ‘Bhambu.’

Ikalagu yiniyo yalanga bhanhu guitumama imilimo yabho bho bhushikanu na wiyumilija bhutale, kugiki bhadule kupandika matwajo mingi ayo gikomile gubhambilija ugujibheja chiza ikaya jabho.

Chanzo cha kitendawili hiki chaangalia kinyonga. Kinyonga hutembea kwa kusitasita, hali ambayo hufananishwa na utembeaji wa madaha. Utembeaji wake huo humfanya aonekane kama hana woga wowote ule, kwa sababu ya madaha yake hayo. Ndiyo maana watu hutegeana kitendawili kwamba, ‘hata akiwa hatarini hutembea kwa madaha tu’ na kujibu, ‘kinyonga’.

Kitendawili hicho chalinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hufanya kazi zake kwa kutafakari vizuri, na kwa uvumilivu wa hali ya juu maishani mwake. Mtu huyo hufanya kazi zake kwa uvumilivu, hadi anapata mafanikio mengi yawezayo kumsaidia katika kuiendeleza vizuri familia yake.

Yeye huzifikiria kwa makini kazi zake hizo, kama atembeavyo kinyonga, kwa sababu naye hakurupuki tu na kuanza kufanya kazi fulani. Ndiyo maana watu hutegeana vitendawili kwamba, ‘hata akiwa hatarini hutembea kwa madaha tu’ na kujibu, ‘kinyonga’.

Kitendawili hicho hufundisha watu kuyatekeleza majukumu yao kwa ukamilifu na uvumilifu wa hali ya juu, ili waweze kupata mafanikio mengi yanayotosha kuwasaidia katika kuziendeleza vizuri familia zao.

ENGLISH: I HAVE A RIDDLE – LET IT COME: EVEN IN TIMES OF DANGER, SHE STILL MOVES WITH POISE – CHAMELEON.

The origin of this riddle is the movement of a chameleon. The chameleon moves in a hesitant manner, a movement that is likened to composure. This movement makes the chameleon look as if it is fearless; all because of the poise. That is why people pose a riddle that, ‘Even in times of danger, she still moves with poise’ and reply, ‘chameleon.’

This riddle is used comparatively to refer to a person who carries out his/her duties with great thought, and with the utmost patience in life. The person patiently performs his/her duties until he/she achieves notable success for the family wellbeing.

He/she pays attention to his/her activities, as how the chameleon walks, because he/she does not just jump to start doing some work. That is why people pose a riddle, ‘Even in times of danger she still moves with poise’ and reply ‘chameleon.’

Imbuki ya kalagu yiniyo yilolile sonda. Isonda jili ginhu jilabhangizu, ijo jigikalaga ng’wigulya. Ijoyi jigigelaga bhujiku, ulu wela jidigelaga. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagiganilaga giki, ‘nanikila bhuchele bhujiku, wela nabhugayiwa’ bhashosha, ‘Sonda’.

Ikalagu yiniyo igalenganijiyagwa kubhanhu abho bhagahayoga kihamo ibhujiku, ulu bhalipanga imilimo ya ntondo iyahakaya yabho. Abhanhu bhenabho bhagabhejaga mahoya gabho genayo bhujiku kugiki, bhuli ng’wene apangilwe guja gujutumama nimo halebhe, ulu wela ubhujiku.

Ulu wela ubhujiku bhunubho, bhuli ng’wene agajaga uko opangilagwa nabhiye ibhujiku ni kaya yiniyo. Hunagwene abhanhu bhenabho, bhagikolaga ni sonda ijo jigigelaga bhujibu iki nabho bhagahoyaga bhujiku, ulu bhalipanga imilimo yabho iya ntondo. Chanzo cha kitendawili hicho chaangalia nyota. Nyota ni vitu vinavyometameta ambavyo huonekana juu angani wakati wa usiku. Usiku ukicha, huwa hazionekani. Ndiyo maana watu hutegeana kitendawili kwamba, ‘nimeanika mchele usiku, kumekucha nikaukosa’ na kujibu, ‘Nyota’.

Kitendawili hicho chalinganishwa kwa watu ambao huongea kwa pamoja nyakati za usiku, kila wanapopanga mgawanyo wa kazi zao za siku inayofuta. Watu hao huendesha maongezi yao usiku ili kila mmoja aweze kupangiwa majukumu ya kutekeleza siku ifuatayo, kwa ajili ya kuwawezesha wote kupata mafanikio mengi maishani mwao.

Hivyo, usiku ukicha, kila mmoja huenda kule alikopangiwa na kikao cha usiku. Ndio maana watu hao hufananishwa na nyota ambazo huonekana usiku, kwa vile wao huongea usiku wanapopanga kazi za kila mmoja zitakiwazo kutekelezwa siku inayofuta.

Usiku ukicha, wao hutawanyika kwenda kule ambako kila mmoja amepangiwa kwenda kufanyia kazi yake na kutoweka kama vile nyota ambazo huwa hazionekani usiku unapokucha. Ndiyo maana watu hutegeana kitendawili kwamba, ‘nimeanika mchele usiku, kumekucha nikaukosa’ na kujibu, ‘Nyota’.

Kitendawili hicho chafundisha watu kuwa na umoja wa kugawana majukumu yao nyakati za usiku, ili kila mmoja aweze kuyatekeleza vizuri na kwa wakati unaotakiwa. Mgawanyo huo wa kazi utawasaidia katika kupata mafanikio mengi yawawezeshayo kuziendesha vizuri familia zao.

ENGLISH: I HAVE A RIDDLE- LET IT COME: I PUT OUT RICE TO DRY LAST NIGHT, BUT IT WENT MISSING IN THE MORNING – STARS.

The origin of this riddle relates to the stars. Stars are twinkling objects that appear in the sky at night. When it dawns, they become invisible. That is why people pose a riddle, ‘I put out rice to dry last night, but it went missing in the morning’ and respond, ‘stars’.

The riddle is comparatively used with reference to people who talk together at night times as they plan their day-to-day work assignments. These people hold their conversations at night times so that each one can be assigned the tasks to perform the following day to enable them all achieve more in life.

So, when it dawns, everyone disappears and goes to their duty post assigned to them last night. That is why such people are like the stars that appear at night, because they carry out their planning talks at night times as they plan each other’s tasks to perform when it dawns.

When it dawns, they disperse to each one’s duty post as assigned such that they are invisible at home, just like what stars do when it dawns. That is why people pose a riddle that ‘I put out rice to dry last night, but it went missing in the morning’ and reply, ’Stars’.

This riddle teaches people to be united in sharing their responsibilities at night, so that everyone can carry out the tasks at the right time. This division of labour will help them in achieving their plans and recording notable successes, which in turn enables them to manage their families well as they deserve.

Imbuki ya kalagu yiniyo yilolile ginhu ijo jigitanagwa boli. Iboli lili liginhu libhilingu. Ulu lyushindilwa mpaga lyokala myuyi, ligidamagukaga ulu lyatalijiwa hasi lyita, ‘dingili dingili’. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagiganilaga gigi, ‘ng’wimeji one nginu no, dingili dingili mumho wigusha’ bhashosha, ‘Boli.’

Ikalagu yiniyo igalenganijiyagwa kubhanhu abho bhagatumilaga solobho ya wimeji bhobho, bho gubhalunguja abhichabho abho bhali mumayange. Abhanhu bhenabho bhagadulaga nulu gubhasesha abhanhu abho bhali na mayange.

Abhanhu bhenabho, bhagabhutumilaga uwimeji bhobho bho gubhambilija abhichabho uguitumama na bhuyegi imilimo yabho. Akikalile kabho kenako kagabhalunguja abhichabho abho bhali mumayange na gubhinha nguzu ja kuitumama milimo yabho bhobhuyegi. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagiganilaga giki, ‘ng’wimeji one nginu no, dingili dingili mumho wigusha’ bhashosha, ‘Boli.’

Chanzo cha kitendawili hiki chaangalia kitu kiitwacho mpira. Kwa kawaida, mpira ni mkubwa, sawa na kitu kinene na ni wa mviringo. Ukijazwa upepo na kuachiwa chini, hudundadunda pale chini ukitoa sauti ya ‘dingilidingili’. Ndiyo maana watu hutegeana kitendawili kwamba, ‘mtani wangu mnene mno dingilidingili ndiko kucheza kwake’ na kujibu, ‘mpira’

Kitendawili hicho chaangalia watu wale ambao huutumia utani wao kwa faida ya kuwafariji wenzao walio katika matatizo mbalimbali. Watu hao wenye utani huweza hata kuwachekesha watu hao walio katika matatizo.

Watu hao huutumia utani wao kwa kuwasaidia wenzao katika kuyatekeleza vizuri majukumu yao. Maisha yao huwafariji wenzao walioko kwenye matatizo mbalimbali, kwa kuwapatia furaha ya kuzitekeleza kazi zao. Ndiyo maana watu hutegeana kitendawili kwamba, ‘mtani wangu ni mnene mno, dingilidingili ndiko kucheza kwake’ na kujibu, ‘Mpira’.

Kitendawili hicho hufundisha watu kuutumia utani wao katika kufarijiana wakati wa shida, na kuhimizana kufanya kazi katika kuyatekeleza kwa furaha majukumu yao ya kila siku, ili waweze kuziendeleza vizuri familia zao.

ENGLISH: I HAVE A RIDDLE – LET IT COME: MY JOKER IS TOO FAT, THUMP-RINGING IS HOW HE PLAYS – A BALL.

The origin of this riddle is something called a ball. A ball is usually big and round. When pressurised and released to the ground, it bounces and makes a tump ringing sound. That is why people pose ariddle that, ‘my joker is too fat, thump-ringing is how he plays and reply, ‘A ball.’

The riddle is used with reference to those people who use their jokes for the benefit of others in various problems. Such people may even make fun of their people in difficult situations.

These people use their jokes to help their peers in fulfilling their responsibilities. Their lives give comfort to others who are in various forms of sufferings, giving them the joy of doing their work with happiness. That is why people pose a riddle, ‘My joker is too fat, thump-ringing is how he plays’ and reply, ‘a ball.’

This riddle teaches people to use their jokes in comforting one another in times of difficulty, and encouraging one another to work happily in their daily responsibilities, so that they can better the wellbeing of their families.
