Chanzo cha kitendawili hicho, chaangalia kiumbe anayeitwa Inzi. Inzi huyo, ni kiumbe kidogo sana. Yeye hupenda kutua popote anapotaka. Hivyo basi, akitua mahali hata kwenye gari hupelekwa popote bila nauli. Ndiyo maana watu huhadithiana kwamba, ‘hupanda gari bila kulipia nauli:- Inzi.’

Kitendawili hicho, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye ni muongo, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, huwa anasambaza maneno ya uongo kwa wenzake, kama inzi yule anayetua kila sehemu na kuacha uchafu.

Muongo akisikia neno fulani huwa hatulii nyumbani kwakwe, kwa sababu yeye  hudhurura kila sehemu akieneza uongo wake. Yeye anaweza hata kuvunja mji wa watu waliokuwa wanapendana katika maisha yao, kwa sababu ya uongo wake. Ndiyo maana watu huhadithiana kwamba, ‘hupanda gari bila kulipia nauli:- Inzi.’

Kitendawili hicho, hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha uongo katika maisha yao, ili waweze kuishi vizuri na kwa amani na wenzao, maishani mwao.

IT RIDES A CAR WITHOUT PAYING FARE – FLY.

The source of this riddle is an insect known by the name of fly. A fly is a small insect that can land anywhere. It can land on a certain animal and therefore enjoy travelling with that particular animal wherever it wants to go. This is why people came with this riddle that ‘It rides a car without paying fare – fly’ to communicate the behaviour of flies of landing on other animals and enjoying ride pricelessly and in so doing, these flies can transmit diseases from one person to another.

That riddle can be compared to a person who is a liar in his/her life. This person can tend to travel from one point to another to spread his/her lies. Like a fly, this person doesn’t get settled in one place. He/she thinks about moving from one place to another to spread his/her rumours that might have disastrous effect to others.

This riddle teaches people about trustworth and respecting others. This can make people have a good and peaceful life with other members around them.

Ikalagu yiniyo, igalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agitaga bhukengeji bhutale haho atali ugwita mhayo gosegose, umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agajitumilaga ijikolo jakwe bho bhukengeji wiza, kugiki jidule gung’wambilija ku makanza malihu.

Chanzo cha kitendawili hicho, chaangalia ugali. Ugali huo, ukitolewa jikoni na kuwekwa mezani, huwa unakuwa wa moto sana. Mlaji wake, hutakiwa kuupuliza ili uweze kupoa ndipo aweze kuula, kwa sababu akiula bila kuupuliza utamunguza. Ndiyo maana watu huhadithiana kwamba, ‘kakupulila ndiyo kakula:- ugali.’

Kitendawili hicho, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hufanya utafiti wa kina kabla ya kuanza kufanya lolote, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, huvitumia vitu vyake kwa umakini unaoendana na utafiti mzuri, ili mali hizo ziweze kumsaidia kwa muda mrefu.

Yeye hufanya utafiti wa kuweza kumsaidia katika kutoa maamuzi ya haki kwa wenzake. Kupitia utafiti huo, mtu huyo, hufaulu kutoa hukumu za haki kwa watu wake. Ndiyo maana watu huhadithiana kwamba, ‘kakupulila ndiyo kakula:- ugali.’

Kitendawili hicho, hufundisha watu juu ya kufanya utafiti kwa kutumia akili timamu au nzuri kabla ya kuamua jambo lolote, ili waweze kuwalinda vizuri watu wao, na kutumia vizuri mali zao, maishani mwao.

IT HAS TO BE BLOWN FIST BEFORE EATING – UGALI .

The source of this riddle is hot ugali. Ugali is an African traditional food that is cooked by mixing hot water and maize/wheat/soghum/fingermillet flour and stiring it using a wooden stick. This food is always eaten while still hot and therefore one has to blow it first before putting it into the mouth. This is why people came with this riddle to describe the way ugali is being eaten: ‘It has to be blown first before eating – ugali.’

This riddle can be compared to a person who does extensive research before he/she starts doing anything in his/her life. This person appears to be organised well in his/her doings. He/she conducts researches before reaching a certain decision. The way he/she does his/her things can be likened to cooling down the lump of ugali one is having in his/her hand in order to eat it easily.

This riddle teaches people about doing research using sound or good thinking before deciding on anything. This can help to protect people from misleading themselves thus affecting their entire life system.

Hunagwene abhanhu bhagiganilaga giki, ‘kasab’i ka kakelule:- Kab’ambu.’

Ikalagu yiniyo, igalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo, adabhudimilaga chiza ubhung’hana, umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agalondejaga akikalile kabhanhu abho alabhasange, kugiki adule gupandika jiliwa, umukikalile kakwe, guti ni b’ambu umo igikolelaga naho yimilaga.

Uweyi agab’ib’isaga abhanhu abho bhamhanile, bho gwigalucha umili gokwe, kugiki abho bhamanile bhanjimilwe, nabho obhasangaga bhahaye giki aling’wichabho. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagiganilaga giki, ‘kasab’i ka kakelule:- Kab’ambu.’

Chanzo cha kitendawili hicho, chaamwangalia Kinyonga. Kinyonga ni kiumbe wa kuashangaza kabisa, kwa sababu ya kujigeuze geuza mwili wake kila anapoenda, ili uweze kufanana na rangi ya pale alipo. Mwenyewe ana utajiri wa rangi wa kujifananisha na rangi ya pale alipo simama. Ndiyo maana watu huhadithiana kwamba, ‘tajiri wa rangi:- Kinyonga.’

Kitendawili hicho, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye haushikilii vizuri ukweli katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, hufuata mkumbo wa kufanana na wale anaowakuta kila aendapo, ili aweze kupata chakula, katika maisha yake, kama kinyonga afananavyo na rangi ya pale aliposimama.

Yeye hujificha kwa watu wanaomfahamu kwa kujibadili tabia yake, ili wanaomfahamu wasimtambue, na wale anaowakuta, wamfikirie kwamba yeye ni mwenzao. Ndiyo maana watu huhadithiana kwamba, ‘tajiri wa rangi:- Kinyonga.’

HE IS RICH IN COLOURS – CHAMELEON.

The source of this riddle is a reptile by the name of chameleon. Chameleon is a very strange reptile because it is capable of changing colours according to the environment it is in. It is an organism that is assumed to be rich in colours. This habit of chameleon of having different colours made people to come up with their riddle that ‘He is rich in colours – chameleon’ in order to justify the power of chameleon to change its colours according to different environment.

This riddle can be compared to a person who does not hold the truth in his/her life. This person tends to change over time as he/she encounters different environment and different people. The aim of this person to do so might be seeking acceptance from different people and environment. Such people can tend to hide themselves from other people who know them by adjusting their behaviours.

This riddle teaches people to follow Jesus Christ by living His commandments. People should not change their ways in their efforts to abide by God’s commandments. In so doing, they will be able to enter the God’s Kingdom.

Kitendawili hicho, hulinganishwa kwa Yesu Kristo ambaye ni Mganga Maarufu. Yesu anao uwezo wa kuwaponya watu wanaomwamini katika maisha yao. Watu hao, huponyeshwa kwenye matatizo  na Yesu kwa sababu Yeye anauwezo wa kuwaondolea watu dhambi zao.

Watu hao, hutembea wakiwa wanamtumaini yeye katika maisha yao, kwa sababu ya wao kuungana naye Katika maisha yao kwa njia ya ubatizo. Ndiyo maana wao huhadithiana kwamba, ‘mganga maarufu anatembea na nyumba yake mgongoni:- Kobe.’

THE FAMOUS TRADITIONAL HEALER WALKS WITH HIS HOUSE ON HIS BACK – TORTOISE.

The source of this riddle is the creature by the name of tortoise. The tortoise has a hard shell on its back that protects it from various dangers. So when it senses some danger it retracts its head and hides it. That is why people say ‘the famous traditional healer walks with his house on his back – tortoise’ to communicate the behaviour of tortoise.

This riddle can be compared to Jesus Christ, the Great Physician. Jesus has the power to heal those who believe in Him. Jesus has the power to take away their sins. Having trust in Jesus makes people have relief in their lives because they are served by Him through baptism.

This riddle teaches people about believing in Jesus Christ by being baptized and living God’s commandments.

Watu hao, huishi kwa ushirikiano wa kupanga mipango ya kuwawezesha kuindeleza kwa kuilinda vizuri familia yao hiyo. Upendo wao, huwapatia nguvu za kuyatekeleza majukumu yao, kwa kusaidiana pamoja katika uelewano wao.

Watu hao, huilinda familia yao, kama zile nguzo zinavyoilinda nyumba hiyo, kwa sababu nao wana ushirikiano wa kusaidiana kwa kuyatekeleza majukumu yao, kwa pamoja. Ndiyo maana watu hao huhadithiana kwamba, ‘jamaa wametangulizana:- nguzo.’

GENTLEMEN HAVE PRECEDED ONE ANOTHER – POLES.

The source of this riddle is the pattern of poles used in constructing a house. Poles are trees one can cut and arrange them in a manner that makes them make a house for one to stay in. They are always arranged in a certain pattern and tightened together with strings or nails so that they offer enough support for the house to appear in a good structure. This proper patterning of poles made people to come up with this riddle ‘Gendlemen have preceded one another – poles’ to communicate the way poles appear in making the house have a good structure.

This riddle can becompared to those people who work together in making sure that their families are taken care of. These people tend to formulate their plans together and implement them in a manner that enables them to have success in their families. As the poles protect the house and give shape of the house, these people function as pillars of strength and solidarity in the society.

This riddle teaches people about harmony and helping each other in fulfilling their responsibilities.
