318. FUGO NHALE IDAMALAGA NGUKULU

Imbuki ya lusumo lunulo, yilolile nkukulu ijo jisagilile, mu fugo ya guzugila b’ugali. Ifugo yiniyo igab’izaga na masagilwa ga jiliwa ukusi yayo ijo bhagajilekelaga abhali bha jiliwa jinijo. Amalekelwa genayo hayo gagitanagwa ngukulu. Ingululu jinijo jigadamilaga hasi ya fugo yiniyo. Kuyiniyo lulu, umunhu uyo alasange jashilaga ijiliwa, adulile nulu gupala ngukulu ulya. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘fugo nhale idamalaga ngukulu.’

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo alinsab’i o mitugo, nulu o jose jose. Unsab’i ng’wunuyo nulu jigacha imitugo, jidushila pye, kunguno jigigelaga nulu ngehu ijagupila. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agab’izaga na ginhu ja gufunya ukub’iye guti jikolo nulu miganiko ayo gadulile gubhambilija abhiye bhenabho. Hunawene abhanhu ulu bhalinomba ginhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘fugo nhale idamalaga ngukulu.’

Ulusumo lunulo lolanga bhanhu higulya ya gubhiza b’izanholo ukubhanhu abho bhali na makoye. Uwizanholo b’unubho, bhugubhambilija abhanhu bhenabho ijinakupandika nzila ja guginja amakoye genayo.

KISWAHILI: CHUNGU KUKUBWA HAKIMALIZI UKOKO

Chanzo cha methali hiyo chaangalia chungu cha kupikia ugali, chenye ukoko. Chungu hicho huwa na mabaki ya chakula ndani yake kwa chini, ambayo hubakishwa na walaji wa chakula hicho. Mabaki hayo hung’ang’ania chini ambayo huitwa ukoko. Ukoko huo huwa mgumu kutolewa ndani ya chungu hicho. Kwa hiyo basi, mtu atakayekuta chakula kimeliwa, huweza kukwangua walau ukoko huo na kula. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘chungu kikubwa hakimalizi ukoko.’

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa mtu ambaye ni tajiri wa mifugo au wa kitu chochote kile. Mtu huyo huwa na kitu cha kutoa kwa wenzake wanaomuomba kama vile mali, au mawazo yawezayo kuwasaidia wenzake hao. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ‘chungu kikubwa hakimalizi ukoko.’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na ukarimu wa kuwasaidia wenye shida mbalimbali. Ukarimu huo, utawasaidia watu hao katika kupata njia za kuyatatulia matatizo hayo.

ENGLISH: A BIG POT IS NOT WITHOUT CRUST

The source of this proverb is a big pot. A big pot always has crust at the base left by people who ate the food. The crust sticks below the base of the pot and it is difficult to remove it. Therefore, a person who finds the food has been eaten may scrape the crust and eat. That is why people say, “a big pot is not without crust.”

The proverb is analogized to someone who has many livestocks or anything else. Even if all the livestocks die, such a person will have few left behind. The person usually has something to give to those who approach him/her for help.That is why people say, “a big pot is not without crust.”

This proverb teaches people about being generous to other people with problems. Such generosity will help them to find ways to solve their problems.

316. SHIMBA NG´OSHA IDAGAIYAGWA B´UYENZE

Imbuki ya lusumo lunulo ilolile shimba iyo iling´osha. Ishimba yiniyo, igikalaga na jimanikijo jayo, ijo jigitanagwa b´uyenze. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ´shimba ng´osha idagaiyagwa b´uyenze.´

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu ngosha, uyo amanyikile chene bho guilang´hana chiza ikaya yakwe. Ubhulang´hani bho kaya yakwe, umunhu ng´wunuyo, wikolile na b´uyenze bho guimanyikija ishimba yiniyo, igiki iling’osha. Umunhu ng´wunuyo agabhalangaga abhanhu bhakwe inzila ja gwikala chiza na bhichabho. Hunagwene abhanhu bhayombaga giki, ´shimba ng´osha idagaiyagwa b´uyenze.´

Ulusumo lunulo lolanga bhanhu higulya ya gudilila milimo yabho, bho gwikala chiza na bhichabho. Uwikaji bhunubho, bhubhamanyiche ikigi, abhoyi bhali bhanhu bha nhungwa ja wiza, umukikalile kabho.

KISWAHILI: SIMBA DUME HAKOSI SHALUBU

Chanzo cha methali hiyo chatokea kwenye simba dume. Simba huyo huwa na alama ya kumtambulisha kuwa yeye ni dume, iitwayo shalubu. Kila simba dume anashalubu. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ´simba dume hakosi shalubu.´

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa mtu mwanaume ajulikanaye hivyo kwa kuitunza vizuri familia yake. Utunzaji huo wa familia yake, hufanana na shalubu la yule simba, limtambulishalo kuwa yeye ni dume. Mtu huyo huwafundisha  pia watu wake namna ya kuishi vizuri na watu. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, ´simba dume hakosi shalubu.’

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kujali kazi zao kwa kuishi vizuri na wenzao. Maisha hayo, yatawatambulisha, maishani mwao, kuwa wao ni binadamu wenye tabia njema.

The source of this proverb is the lione’s mane. The lion’s mane is one of the features used to identify a male lion. Every male lion has it. That is why people say, “a male lion is not without mane.”

The proverb is likened to a man who is known for taking good care of his family. The care of his family is like the lion’s mane; it identifies him as a real man. Such a person also teaches his people how to live well with other people. That is why people say, “a male lion is not without mane.”

The proverb teaches people about caring for their jobs and living well with their people. Such kind of life will make them to be identified as good people.

Imbuki ya lusumo lunulo yingilile kukigelele ka lugulu. Ulugulu lunulo mumo lugalihila lugagaiyagwa aho tub´izu na halihu. Ahatub´izu igitanagwa halyoma. Ubhutub´izu uwingi bhugitanagwa moma. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ´lugulu lutale ludagaiyagwa moma.´

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kuwikaji bho bhanhu umowikalelile na lugulu lunulo ulutale, ulo lulina moma. Amoma genayo gikolile nikanza lya makoye, umuwikaji bho bhanhu. Amakoye genayo, mumo gagakulila ukubhanhu, bhadugaiwa inzila iyagugamalila. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ´lugulu lutale ludagaiyagwa moma.´

Ulusumo lunulo lolanga bhanhu higulya ya gwilunguja umumakoye, na guchola nzila ja gugamalila, bho nduhu gugwa nholo.

KISWAHILI: MLIMA MKUBWA HAUKOSI MAKOLONGO

Chanzo ch methali hiyo chatokea kweye muonekano wa Mlima. Mlima huo haukosi kuwa na sehemu za kushuka na kupanda, hata uwe mrefu kiasi gani. Sehemu za kushuka huitwa makolongo au mabonde. Ndiyo maana, watu husema kwamba, ´mlima mkubwa haukosi makolongo.´

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwenye maisha ya watu ifananavyo na mlima mkubwa wenye makolongo. Makolongo hayo hufanana na wakati wa matatizo katika maisha ya watu hao. Matatizo hayo hata yawe makubwa kiasi gani, watu hawatakosa njia za kuyatatulia au kuyamaliza. Ndiyo maana, watu husema kwamba, ´mlima mkubwa haukosi makolongo.´

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kufarijiana wakati wa matatizo, na kutafuta njia za kuyatatulia matatizo hayo, bila kukata tamaa.

This proverb stems from the nature of mountains. Mountains usually have ups and downs; no matter its height. The downs are called valleys. That is why people say, “a high mountain is not without ups and downs.”

The proverb is likened to people’s life; it has ups and downs just like a high mountain. The downs are similar to time of crisis in the lives of those people. People always find ways to solve the crisis no matter how serious they are. That is why people say, “a high mountain is not without ups and downs.”

The proverb teaches people to comfort one another in times of trouble and help each other in finding ways out of problems.

Imbuki ya lusumo lunulo yinginllile kukalang’hanile ka kaya nhale iyo ilinib’elele. Ikaya yiniyo igalang’hanagwa bho gubhalisha jiliwa abhanhu bhayo. Ilib’eleila linilo, jilijiseme ja gutuulila jiliwa, ijo jidulile gubhalisha, bhuli lushigu, abhanhu bha kaya yiniyo. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, ‘kaya ng’hulu idagaiyagwa ib’elele.’

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kubhanhu abho bhagajilang´hanaga chiza ijiliwa ja gudula gubhalisha abhanhu bhabho. Abhanhu bhenabho bhagabhalangaga bhutumami bho milimo abhanhu bhabho, ni nzila ijagujituula ijiliwa jinijo, kugiki jidizub’ipa. Ikaya ja bhanhu bhenabho, jigabhizaga na jiliwa bhuli makanza, kunguno ya bhutumami bho milimo na bhulang´hani wiza bho jiliwa jabho jinijo. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki ´kaya ng´hulu idagaiyagwa ib´elele.´º

Chanzo cha methali hiyo chatokea kwenye utunzaji wa familia kubwa ambayo ina ghala. Familia hiyo hutunzwa kwa kuwalisha watu wake chakula. Ghala hilo ni chombo cha kutunzia chakula kiwezacho kuwalisha, kila siku, watu walioko kwenye familia hiyo. Ndiyo maana, watu husema kwamba, ´familia kubwa haikosi ghala.´

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa watu ambao huwatunza vizuri watu wao, kwa kukitunza chakula cha kuweza kuwalisha watu wao hao. Watu hao huwafundisha pia watu wao, namna ya kufanya kazi kwa bidii na namna ya kuyatunza mazao wayapatayo, ili yasiharibike. Familia za watu hao, huwa na chakula cha kutosha kila wakati, kwa sababu ya bidii yao ya kufanya kazi, na kukitunza chakula kile wakipatacho. Ndiyo maana, watu husema kwamba, ´familia kubwa haikosi ghala.´

Methali hiyo hufundisha watu juu ya kufanya kazi za kuwapatia mahitaji yao, yakiwemo yale ya chakula, na kukitunza chakula hicho, ili watu wao wasife kwa sababu ya njaa.

ENGLISH: A BIG FAMILY MUST HAVE A GRANARY

This proverb comes from the way a large family is managed in terms of food. Such family must have a granary to keep food for its people.The granary keeps food that can feed the people of that family every day. That is why people say that, “a big family must have a granary.”

The proverb relates to people who take good care of their families by preserving food for their people. These people also teach their people how to work hard and how to take care of the crops they produce so that they will not be damaged. The families of these people always have enough food to eat because of their hard work and they keep well the food they have. That is why people say, “a big family must have a granary.”

The proverb teaches people about working hard to meet their basic needs including food so that their people cannot die of hunger.

313. WAGOBYA NILO (B’ULILO)

Imbuki ya kahayile kenako yingilile kubhuchoji bho jiliwa. Ijiliwa jinijo jigategagwa, guti ndimu nulo ndilo. Uluojigobya unchoji ojo ng’wunuyo agayegaga, uweyi kihamo na bhiye. Hunagwene abhiye bhagang’wilaga giki, ‘wagobya nilo (b’ulilo).’

Akahayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo opandikaga milimo ya gung’wenhela jiliwa. Umunhu ng’wunuyo agayegaga noyi ulu oyipandika imilimo yiniyo, kunguno ya b’upandiki bhokwe, bho aho ng’wagulila ijiliwa. Abhazenganwa bhakwe nabho bhagayegaga ugumona ng’wichabho opandikaga aho ng’ wagulila ijiliwa. Hunagwene abhanhu bhenabho bhagang’wilaga giki, ‘wagobya nilo (b’ulilo).

Akahayile kenako kalanga bhanhu higulya ya guchola milimo ya gubhenhela jiliwa, na guyega kihamo ulu bhayipandika imilimo yiniyo.

KISWAHILI: UMEKAMATA PA KULIA

Chanzo cha msemo huo chatokea kwenye utafutaji wa chakula. Chakula hicho hupatikana kwa njia mbalimbali zikiwemo zile za kutafuta kazi, kuvua samaki, kuwinda wanyama na kuwatega kwa mtego. Akipata chakula hicho mtu huyo hufurahi sana, yeye pamoja na wenzake. Ndiyo maana wenzake humwambia kwamba, ‘umekamata pa kulia.’

Msemo huo hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule aliyepata kazi ya kumletea chakula. Mtu huyo hufurahi sana apatapo kazi hiyo, kwa sababu kazi hiyo humletea chakula. Majirani zake nao pia hufurahi kumuona mwenzao amepata pa kulia. Ndiyo maana watu hao, humwambia hivi, ‘umekamata pa kulia.’

Msemo huo hufundisha watu juu ya kutafuta kazi za kuwaletea chakula, na kufurahi kwa pamoja wazipatapo kazi hizo.

ENGLISH: YOU TRAPPED SOMETHING TO EAT

The source of this saying is a search for food. Such food is available by trapping animals or fishing. When someone finds such food he/she becomes very happy with his/her companions. That is why his/her companions can tell him/her, “you have trapped something to eat.”

The saying is compared to a person who got a new job that will bring him or her food. Such a person becomes very happy when he/she gets such a job. The neighbours of that person also become happy for him/her. That is why those people can say, ‘you have trapped something to eat.’’

The proverb teaches people about finding jobs that can bring them food and make them happy.
