Siku moja, mwanamume alimwambia mke wake, ‘kesho tutaamuka mapema wote twende shambani tukalime mpaka wakati fulani ndipo tutarudi nyumbani kuja kula chakula.’ Mke wake akajibu, ‘sawa tutaamuka mapema asubuhi tukalime tukirudi nitakuja kupika chakula tule.’

Kesho yake waliamuka asubuhi kwenda shambani kulima mpaka ukafika wakati fulani, wakarudi nyumbani kula chakula. Mwanamume alimwambia mke wake, ‘pika basi chakula tule.’ Mke wake akajibu, ‘sawa napika.’

Mwanamke huyo, alianza kupika pole pole, mwishowe mume wake, akashoka kukaa. Akamuuliza, ‘humo ndani mmeivisha chakula?’ Mke wake akajibu, ‘tumekaribia.’ Mume wake akamhimiza, ‘fanyeni haraka, mwishowe matako yameanza kuuma kukaa.’

Waebrania 6:11-12. “Nasi twataka kila mmoja wenu aonyeshe bidii iyo hiyo ili mpate kujua uhakika kamili wa lile tumaini mpaka mwisho, ili msije mkawa wavivu, bali mpate kuwaiga wale ambao kwa imani na saburi hurithi zile ahadi.”

Waroma 12:11.

ENGLISH: UGALI IN THIS HOUSE IS BOUGHT THROUGH YOUR BUTTOCKS.

There was one family with two people, husband and wife. The man would wake up very early in the morning going to the farm. And the woman could delay a bit because she has to cook some meal and carry it with her to the farm and eat with her husband. But this woman used to be late everyday to bring food for the man.

One day the man told his wife that all of them have to leave home very early in the morning without carrying food and that, food will be eaten when they come back from the farm. The wife agreed with the man and left for the farm. When they came back from the farm, the woman went to the kitchen and spent a lot of hours cooking the food until the man became tired of waiting for food. The man kept on asking for food and the woman could reply, wait; it will be done soon.

The man waited until his buttocks began to pain for too much sitting. When the food was ready, the man was invited to eat and he said ‘ugali in this house is bought through your buttocks.’ This marked the beginning of this saying.

This saying can be compared to a person who is lazy or cruel in his/her life. Such a person will not help others easily during distress times. People of this nature will enjoy seeing others suffer (Refer to Kueneza Injili kwa Methali which means ‘Spreading the Gospel through Proverbs,’ page 72). This book was written by researchers: Fr. Donald Sybertz, M.M., and Fr. Joseph Healey M.M., published by Benedictine Publications Ndanda – Peramiho, 1984.

This saying teaches people how to carry out their tasks with great effort so that they can achieve more success in their lives.

We must work hard every time we serve our fellowmen or when we serve the Lord. God is displeased with someone who serves Him with little effort. Let us not be slothful in serving the Lord, but zelous, loving Him with all our heart, mind, and strength. We must serve our fellow men with as much zeal and love as Jesus Christ Himself (Refer to ‘Spreading the Gospel in Proverbs,’ page 72).
