KISWAHILI: SAMAKI HUOGELEA MAJINI.

ENGLISH: FISH SWIMS INTO WATER.

The source of this saying is the life of fish and how it enjoys swimming into deep water. The fish likes swimming in water because it enjoys that kind of life. When water dries, its survival can be very difficult. It can die. This is why people say ‘fish swims in water’ to indicate the absence of another life for fish out of water.

The saying can be compared to rich people who are very proud of their richness. They live in their spacious houses and every service is in their reach. But, when they run bankrupt, they suffer to the extent of seeing hell in their life. They appear like a fish that has been forced to live out of water.

The saying teaches people about how to stop despising the poor. They need to understand that possession of properties is not a permanment state rather it can change any time. Therefore properties should not separate people.
