89. Ngeni Rasmi Na Kwiyolecha

Ikanza ilo UYesu Kristo oliatali wikala ahanaha welelo, mayu umo witanagwa Eliza Kwiyolecha, agamuja, “Ng’walimu, ni bhuli udiniza ahakaya yane? Ku bhanhu bhangi ugujaga gujubhagisha, aliyo ukuli nene udinashika na kamo.”

Yesu aganshokeja, “Lindaga du ikanza lwa shigu idatu, nane nagwiza kuli bhebhe.” Kwiyolecha ahowigwa giko, agaja ku kaya yakwe alina bhuyegi bhutali noi. Agibhegeleja jinagiki gunbokela ngeni okwe Rasmi.

Lushigu lo kadatu diyu, agashika nhamhala olebha. Kwiyolecha aho omona, agamuja bho bhupelanu, “Ni bhuli oshika aha? Udamanile igiki ilelo nina ngeni rasmi? Ingaga aha wangu.”

Nhamhala ng’wenuyo aginga bhila ya guyomba mhayo gosegose. Hanuma yaho agashika ngikulu nhebhu. Kwiyolecha agankalihila na guyomba, “Balaa ki ilelo, mlishika kuli nene?”  Ingaga aha, udiziza uganiponda soni habhutongi ya ngeni one rasmi.” Ngikulu unhebhu uyo aginga bho selesele du, uja lokwe.

Aha nhalikilo, agiza jilema o magulu ayo gigonda. Ubhiza alishindika masalu bho magulu gwakwe na gutumywa lubhubhu. Kwiyolecha agayomba, “Shetani ki uyu, aliza kuli nene? Ulichafula jiwanja jane. Ingaga aha wangu! Udizushoka hangi.” Kwiyolecha agendelea gunhindila ngeni rasmi, aliyo he! Adashikile.

Bhasi intondo yaho dilu, aginga ahakaya yakwe jinakugiki aje agalumane nu Yesu hangi. Aho bhalumana, agamuja, “Ng’walimu, ni bhuli udizile? Nagagulindila noi, aliyo nadagubhonile!”

UYesu unshokeja, “Unene nagiza kulibhebhe nghangala idatu, nubhebhe uganipeja.” Kwiyolecha aganshokeja, “Hasha! Udashikile nulu hadoo. Bhagashiga bhanhu bhangi du bhadatu, idi bhebhe.”

UYesu aganshokeja, “Aho ugabhapeja abhenabho abho bhalibhiza kuli bhebhe, uganipeja nu nene hangi. Kweyolecha aho wigwa cheniko, agasaga agukumywaga.

Wakati Yesu Kristo alipokuwa bado anaishi hapa duniani, mama mmoja aliyeitwa Eliza Kwiyolecha (Kujionyesha) alimwuliza, “Mwalimu kwa nini hujafika nyumbani kwangu? Lakini kwa watu wengine unakwenda kuwasalimu, lakini kwangu hujafika hata mara moja.”

Yesu akamjibu,  “Subiri tu muda wa siku tatu,  nami nitafika kwako.”  Kwiyolecha aliposikia hivyo, alikwenda nyumbani akiwa na furaha kubwa mno. Akajiandaa ili kumpokea mgeni wake rasmi.

Siku ya tatu asubuhi, alifika mzee kikongwe. Kwiyolecha  alipomwona, akamwuliza kwa hasira, “Kwa nini umefika hapa? Hujui kuwa leo nina mgeni rasmi? Ondoka hapa upesi.”

Mzee huyo aliondoka bila ya kusema neno lolote.  Baadaye alifika bibi kizee. Kwiyolecha akamkaripia na kusema, “Balaa gani leo, mnafika kwangu? Ondoka hapa, usije ukaniaibisha mbele ya mgeni wangu.”  Bibi kizee akaondoka kimya kimya tu, akaenda zake.

Mwishowe, alikuja kiwete mwenye miguu iliyopinda. Akawa anasukuma mchanga kwa miguu yake na kutimua vumbi. Kwiyolecha akasema, “Shetani gani huyu, anakuja kwangu? Unachafua  kiwanja changu. Ondoka hapa upesi! Usirudi tena.”  Kwiyolecha akazidi kumgojea mgeni rasmi, lakini wapi! Hakufika.

Basi asubuhi kesho yake, aliondoka nyumbani kwake ili aende akakutane na Yesu tena. Walipokutana, alimwuliza, “Mwalimu, kwa nini hukufika? Nilikusubiri mno, lakini sikukuona!”

Yesu akamjibu, “Mimi nilikuja kwako mara tatu, nawe ukanifukuza.” Kwiyolecha akamjibu, “Hasha! Hukufika hata kidogo. Walifika watu wengine tu watatu, siyo wewe.”

Yesu akamjibu,  “Ulipowafukuza hao waliokuja kwako, ulinifukuza mimi pia.”  Kwiyolecha aliposikia hayo, akabaki anashangaa.

The Show-off Prepares For Jesus On Christmas

Once upon a time when Jesus was still in this world, there was an African woman named Kwiyolecha which means “The Show-off” or “a person who wants to make a big impression” in Sukuma, an important language in Tanzania.charity-

After hearing him speak as no person has ever spoken, Kwiyolecha met Jesus in Shinyanga town, Tanzania three days before Christmas and asked him, “Lord, when will you come to visit us? I see you visiting other people, but you haven’t come to our home yet.” Jesus replied, “Dear woman, just wait three days and I promise to pay you a visit on Christmas Day.”

When Kwiyolecha heard this she was delighted and immediately went home to prepare for the coming of the Lord Jesus on Christmas Day. The Tanzanian woman cleaned her house very well and decorated inside and outside with many ornaments of the Christmas season. She hung colorful African cloths everywhere.

She and her servants prepared special food and drink especially the local beer. They slaughtered the bull that they had been fattening. Having prepared everything to the best of her ability, Kwiyolecha dressed in her finest African dress. Then she sat down and waited for the Lord’s arrival with joyful expectation.

Early on Christmas morning a bent old man with sores on his legs appeared at Kwiyolecha’s house. Upset at this intrusion, she told the man sharply: “What have you come here for? I’m waiting for an important visitor and I don’t want you messing up my house. Go away immediately.” Without saying a word the bent old man left.

Sometime later a very old lady appeared dressed in rags and supporting herself with a stick. Exasperated and angry, Kwiyolecha said to herself, “Why are all these things happening to me?” She rebuffed the old woman and told her, “Get out of here.” The very old lady did as she was told.

Finally at midday a badly crippled Tanzanian boy appeared. He raised a cloud of dust as he dragged along his twisted legs. Kwiyolecha was very annoyed when she saw him and said, “What is this wretch doing here?” She told the boy, “Get away from here as soon as possible and don’t come back again.” The boy immediately went away.

Then for the rest of Christmas Day Kwiyolecha waited patiently for the Lord Jesus, but he never came.

The next day, that happened to be 26 December, Kwiyolecha met Jesus in Shinyanga town and said: “Lord, why didn’t you come to our home yesterday? I waited and waited for you. Why didn’t you keep your promise?” The Lord replied, “Kwiyolecha, I came to visit you three times, but you did not receive me. When you refused to welcome the bent old man, the very old lady dressed in rags and the badly crippled boy who came to your home, you refused to welcome me.”

At first Kwiyolecha was dumbfounded. Then she remembered Jesus’ words in the Gospel of St. Matthew: “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”

She began to realize for the very first time what it means to be a follower of Christ and the real meaning of Christian hospitality. So Kwiyolecha looked for another opportunity to celebrate Christmas by welcoming Jesus in a bent old man, a very old lady dressed in rags and a badly crippled boy who might come to her home.

 

88. Jigano Ja Ntemi

Aho kale oliho Ntemi nkumuku noi. Uyo olintongeji o wiza noi na makujo mingi. Aho lwabhita ikanza itale lwa bhutongeji bhokwe, igigela nzala umu si yakwe na lwande lo bhuzenganwa na si yakwe.

Nzala yiniyo igasola ikanza lwa miaka idatu na nusu. Bhanhu bhagayanga na gukoya noi ung’wibala lwakwe, bhangi bhagacha na nzala. Untemi agakoiwa noi na bhanhu, giki adubhakoyakoyelaga abhanhu ku lwande lo nzala na gubhenhela mbula. Ikale yalibhizile untemi lazima weng’nhe mbula.

Bhanhu bhagayomba giki, Untemi ulu adabhingije umu makoye ga nzala na gubhenhela mbula, bhaguntula mpaga ache. Untemi aho wigwa ubhulalamiki bhingi bho bhanhu, agiyangula gutoloka guja ng’wibolu, gugapela makoye mingi umu si yakwe.

Ugonghana agatoroka uja ng’wipolu uko bhanhu bhatiho, ugibhanda mumi milima. Agikala kunuko miaka idatu na nusu. Wikala agulwaga matunda ga ng’wipolu. Mbula igatula aho yabhita miaka idatu na nusu.

Aho otoroka bhanhu bhagapandika noi ijiliwa na bhagayega noi, mpaga bhita npango gogunchola untemi obho, aliyo bhadampandikile gete.

Yubhiza abhanasi umu si yakwe, bhuja ng’wipolu kubhulingi bho ndimu. Bhaginga chalo jinane guja ng’wipolu. Kwikanza lya shigu mpungati, ukwene guhaya, nyuma imo.

Bhagalinga ukunuko kwipolu mpaga lushigu lo gatandatu dilu saa nne. Aho bhashiga ukunima nhihu uko oliwibhisa untemi obho, bhagagunyamanija unima, untemi nanghwe oliwiyanikija mulimi ku nguno ya mbeho.

Itukio la gafula (Nhanga) jigasalambana munima, na abhalingi bhusalambana, mpaga nsumba umo ufuada nhanga na mbwa jakwe ibhili.

Bhogafula umona untemi, wimila, alina hali ya nyahabhi, nzwili jakwe jabhiza ndihu, na hangi obhipa mako na mywenda ya mako noi.

Unsumba ugubhona hali yiniyo agiganika giki obhona ng’wengeleji. Unsumba agapela nhambo noi, agikindika uching’wa linti munda, ubhula bhufuma.

Unsumba agalila na gulija ng’wano. Aho bhigwa abhiye bhagiganika giki odimagwa na shimba.  Nanghwe Untemi agashiga agakumya na guhaya, “Napelaga makoye nu kunu ganipandika hangi.”

Bhagamuja na adamile ugogwita. Bhanhu bhagashiga na gumuja unsumba ng’wenuyu witaga kii? Untemi agahaya, “Nu nene onibhonaga ogoha ku gafula ku nguno ya hali yane umo nalibhizila o mako, nzwili na mpaga mywenda yane yabhipa mako.

Bhanhu bhagamuja, “Ntemi wizaga nanali ukunu?” Untemi ushosha ku bhupina, “Niza kale, nina miaka idatu na nusu.” Bhagamuja hangi, “Wizaga gwita kiyi?” Untemi uhaya, “Nagatoroka aho gigela makoye uko kaya niza gwibhisa kunu mapolu.”

Kiswahili: Hadithi Ya Mtemi (Mfalme)

Hapo zamani kulikuwako na mtemi maarufu sana. Ambaye alikuwa kiongozi safi sana na hekima nyingi. Baada ya muda mrefu wa uongozi wake, ilitokea njaa katika nchi yake na pande za jirani mwa nchi yake.

Njaa hii ilichukua muda wa miaka mitatu na nusu. Watu waliyumba sana katika eneo lake, wengine walikufa na njaa. Mtemi alisumbuliwa sana na watu, kwamba hawashughulikii watu hao kwa upande wa njaa na kuwaletea mvua. Zamani ilikuwa Mtemi lazima awe mleta mvua.

Watu walisema Mtemi asipowashughulikia kwenye tatizo la njaa na kuwaletea mvua, watampiga mpaka kufa. Mtemi aliposikia malalamiko mengi ya watu, aliamua kutoroka kwenda porini, kuyakimbia matatizo mengi katika nchi yake.

Kweli alitoroka akaenda porini kusiko na watu,  akajificha kwenye milima. Alikaa huko miaka mitatu na nusu. Alikuwa  anakula matunda ya porini. Mvua ilinyesha baada ya kupita miaka mitatu na nusu. Alipotoroka watu walipata sana chakula na kufurahi sana, hata wakafanya mpango wa kumtafuta  Mtemi wao na wasimpate kabisa.

Ikawa wananchi katika nchi yake,  walikwenda porini kwa mawindo ya wanyama. Waliondoka vijiji vinane kwenda porini. Kwa muda wa siku saba, yaani wiki moja.

 Waliwinda huko porini hata siku ya Jumamosi asubuhi kama saa nne. Walifika kwenye mlima mrefu, alikojificha Mtemi wao. Waliuzingira mlima, Mtemi naye alikuwa amejianika kwenye jua kwa ajili ya baridi.

Tukio la ghafula (Kanga) walisambaa kwenye mlima, na wawindaji walisambaa, hata kijana mmoja alifuata kanga na mbwa wake wawili. Ghafula akamwona Mtemi, akasimama, akiwa na hali duni, nywele zake zimekuwa ndefu, na tena chafu na nguo chafu sana.

 Kijana kuona hali hiyo alidhani ameona kivuli. Kijana akakimbia mbio sana, akaruka akachomwa mti tumboni na utumbo ukatoka. Kijana akalia na kupiga yowe. Waliposikia wenzake walidhani ameshikwa na Simba.  Na mtemi alifika akashangaa na kusema, “Nimekimbia matatizo na huku yamenikuta tena.”

Wakamwuliza na asijue la kufanya. Watu walifika wakamwuliza huyu kijana amefanya nini? Mtemi  akasema,  “Ni mimi ameniona  ghafula akaogopa kwa sababu ya hali yangu nilivyokuwa mchafu, nywele na hata nguo zangu na hali ya uchafu.

Watu walimwuliza,  “Mtemi umekuja lini huku?”  Mtemi akajibu kwa huzuni,  “Nimekuja zamani, nina miaka mitatu na nusu.” Waliuliza tena, “Umekuja kufanya nini? Mtemi alisema, “Nilitoroka  baada ya kutokea matatizo huko nyumbani na kujificha huku maporini.”

ENGLISH: THE STORY OF THE CHIEF.

Once upon a time, there was a very famous chief who was a very good leader with a lot of wisdom. After a long time of his leadership, there was famine outbreak in his country and the surrounding neighbouring countries.

This famine took about three and a half years. People suffered from it very much in that area.Many died of famine. The chief was very troubled by the people.They complained that he did not deal with the people on matters of famine.They looked at him as a person who had failed to bring rain. Formerly, the chief was considered to be the one who brings rain.

The people said that if the chief could not deal with the problem of famine and bring rain, they would kill him. When the chief heard people’s complaints, he decided to escape and went to the wilderness, running away the problems in his country.

He went to settle in the wilderness where there were no people.He hid himself in the mountains. He stayed there for three and a half years. He was eating only wild fruits. Finally, back in the village, it rained heavily. One day, the people of his land went to the wilderness to hunt preys. They passed eight villages and as they moved to the wilderness. They spent seven days on the way.

 They were hunting in the wilderness one Saturday morning at around ten o’clock. They came to a high mountain where their chief himself was hiding. As they hunted, they encircled the mountain.Meanwhile,the chief was enjoying  the sun for it was winter.

All of a sudden,Guinea fowls spread in different parts of the mountain.The hunters also scattered.Among the hunters, a young man was running after guinea fowls. This young man had his two hunting dogs. Suddenly he saw the chief, standing.He was in a poor condition.His hair was long and dirty.The clothes were also dirty.

As the young man saw the situation, he thought he was seeing a shadow. The young man ran very fast, trying to save his life. As he ran,a dry tree branch hit him in the stomach. He was badly injured. In fact, intestines came out. The young man screamed madly. When other hunters heard,they  thought he was being attackedby a lion. As hunters were looking at their fellow hunter who was in agony, the chief also came to the scene. Hewas surprised and he said, “I have run  away from trouble and I now have found it again.”

They asked him not to know what to do. People came and asked what the boy had done? The Chief said, “I think after seeing me, the young man got shocked and started running. The young man may have been frightened by my dirt condition, hair and even my clothes and the general dirty condition in which I am.

The hunters asked him, “When did you come here?” The Chief replied sadly, “I have come a long time ago, I have been here for  three and a half years.” They asked again, “Why did you come here? The Chief said, “I escaped as there wasa problem in the home village which could endanger my life. So, I came to hide myself here in the forest.”

87. Ukulibhona Ilyamponola Bayega

Aho kale walaliho munhu umo uyo witanagwa Bayega. Agasamila ng’wipolu uko bhalibhatiho abhanhu. Hanuma yahoo, bhanhu bhangi bhagandya gusamila uko lipolu lyenilo bhunsanga alikala bho mholele.

Agandya gubhagabhila amabala na gubhatimbwa ng’holo ya gwikala ung’wipolu. Bhanhu bhenebho bhaganumba noi uMayega bhung’winha Bhutemi.

Ubhiza Ntemi o ibala linilo. Bayega agayega noi ugwinhiwa Bhutemi. Ntemi Bayega olina maarifa mingi noi. Agafunya lilagilo ku bhanasi guti ntemi.

Ulu bhugazugwa walwa ahí ibala lwake mpaga bhanindile wize untemi abhubhonje tamu uwalwa wenubho, huna abhanasi wapandike ruhusa lo gubhung’wa uwalwa.

Agabhakoya noi abhanhu umu si yake ahigulya ya gubhung’wa uwalwa bhenubho, kulwa nguno olina hali nhale ya gwimana wei du. Agalala saa nne ja bhujiku ugumisha gokwe mpaga saa tatu nulu saa nne ya dilu. Hangi ofunyaga adhabu nghali noi ulu usanga munhu oseose obhubhonjaga uwalwa bhunubho ya gutulwa manasu makumi abhili na tano, na yingi mingi.

Bhanasi bhagogoha noi, bhadagemile gubhubhonja bho nduhu ruhusa ya ntemi uwalwa bhenubho. Agigela munhu umo uyo agasamila umu si yiniyo gufuma si yingi, uyo aliadalimamile ililagilo linilo lwa ntemi ng’wenuyo.

Agandya gulomelwa na bhanasi abhenyeji amalagilo ga ntemi na mito gakwe ayo agagafunya untemi wabho. Ungeni ng’wenuyo agakumya noi ugubhona hali iniyo ya gubhaluhya abhanasi.

Lushiku lumo walwa bhugazugwa ung’wibala linilo, munhu uyu ngeni oliakajije guja gujugalihya ibala lwake lya gulima, agaja uku walwa ubhasanga abhanasi, agabhawila, “Bhabehi ninhagi uwalwa nang’we.”

Abhanasi bhagayomba, atali untemi Bayega ugwiza gubhubhonja uwalwa wenubhu. Ungeni agalindila mpaga saa tano, hanuma yaho agahaya, “Ninhagi uwalwa nang’we.” Abhangi bhuyomba, dudizung’winha, kulwa nguno untemi atali ugwiza.

Aho owilwa chene ungeni agalema na gwiyangula ng’winikili, bhasi bhagiyangula gung’winha du kulwa nguno olemaga. Aho ong’wa du ungeni ng’wenuyo, untemi nawe agiza.

Untemi Bayega agaibhona inengelo imo yalidokalile chiza, Untemi agabhuja, “nibhuli inengelo iyi idokalile?” Bhanasi bhagang’wila, “Dandahilaga ngeni du, na ong’waga na ojaga gujutumama nhimo.”

“Nibhuli ng’wang’winhaga?” “Kulwa nguno, agayomba giki agudila guja gujutumama nhimo du.”

Untemi agahaya, “Ng’witanagi wize aha.” Bhajumbe bhabhili bhagaja gujung’witana wiza, untemi umuja, “Nibhuli wiyangulilaga gung’wa walwa aho nadiniza gubhubhonja unene?”

Ungeni agashosha, “Niyangulilaga gung’wa kulwa nguno nagalindila na gubhona giki nagudila guja gujutumama nhimo du.”

Ntemi Bayega aganhadikija gung’wazibu du. Agantula ipe, ungeni nawe aditile ginhu josejose, agatulwa gangi, uwei alidohya du, agatulwa hangi mara yakadatu.

Huna ungeni nawe agiyangula gwikenya. Untemi agatulwa nhang’ha gomumbazu na henaho untemi agiyangula gwikenya gete, agatulwa hangi nhang’ha go muntwe na gugwa hasi, agagwila ung’wibala limo lwa mabala ayo galinamoto.

Ahenaho haho bholibhozugilwa uwalwa; upandika luguma, na gupya moto. Bayega agakindwa na ngeni, na bhutemi bhugasolwa nu ngeni ng’wenuyo.

 Na gutangaja ku bhanasi giki ubhutemi bho Bayega bholi bhuli bhubhi. Ungeni nawe agatula sheria jingi higulwa ya gulindila bhanasi gung’wa walwa. Agabhawila abhanasi giki, makanza ayo naladile gwiza, ili lazima abhanasi bhang’we uwalwa, idi gunilindila.

Hapo zamani palikuwa na mtu mmoja aliyeitwa Bayega. Huyo alihamia porini mahali pasipo na watu. Baadaye watu wengine walianza kuhamia huko porini wakamkuta anaishi kwa amani.

Akaanza kuwagawia maeneo na kuwapa moyo wa kuishi porini. Hao watu walimshukuru sana huyu Bayega wakampa utemi, akawa mtemi wa mahali hapo. Bayega alifurahi sana kupewa ufalme. Mtemi Bayega alikuwa na maarifa mengi mno. Alitoa amri kwa wananchi kama mtawala.

Pombe ikipikwa katika eneo lake mpaka wamsubili kwanza aje Mtemi aonje kwanza hiyo pombe, ndipo wananchi watakapopata ruhusa ya kuinywa hiyo pombe.

Aliwahangaisha sana watu katika nchi yake juu ya hiyo pombe kuinywa, maana alikuwa na ubinafsi mkubwa sana. Alilala saa nne za usiku kuamka kwake mpaka saa tatu au saa nne za asubuhi. Tena alitoa adhabu kali sana akikuta mtu yeyote ameonja pombe hiyo, atapigwa viboko ishirini na tano n.k.

Wananchi waliogopa sana, hawakuthubutu kuionja pombe bila ruhusa ya Mtemi. Kulitokea mtu mmoja aliyehamia hapo kutoka katika nchi nyingine ambaye hakujua amri za mtemi huyo.

Alianza kusimliwa na wananchi wenyeji amri za mtemi na matendo yake aliyotoa mtemi wao. Mgeni huyo alishangaa sana kuona hali hiyo ya mateso kwa wananchi.

Siku moja pombe ilipikwa katika eneo hilo. Mtu huyo mgeni alikuwa na haraka ya kwenda kupanua eneo lake la kulima, alikwenda kwenye pombe akawakuta wananchi, akawaambia, “Jamani nipeni pombe ninywe.”

Wananchi wakasema bado mtemi Bayega hajaja kuionja hii pombe. Mgeni alisubiri mpaka saa tano, baadaye alisema, “Nipeni pombe ninywe.” Wengine walisema tusimpe. Maana Mtemi bado hajaja.

Baada ya kuambiwa hivyo alikataa na kujiamlia mwenyewe. Basi wakaamua kumpa tu kwa kuwa amekataa. Baada ya kunywa tu yule mgeni, Mtemi naye akaja.

Mtemi Bayega akakiona chungu kimoja hakikujaa sawa sawa, akauliza kwa nini mtungi huu haukujaa? Wananchi wakamwambia, “Tumemchotea mgeni tu, amekunywa na akaenda kufanya kazi.”

Kwa nini mmempa? Kwa sababu alisema kwamba atachelewa kwenda kufanya kazi tu. Mtemi alisema, “Mwiteni aje hapa.” Wajumbe wawili wakaenda kumwita akaja, Mtemi akamuuliza, “ Kwa nini umejiamulia kunywa pombe kabla ya kuionja mimi?” Mgeni akajibu nimeamua kunywa kwa sababu nilisubiri na kuona kwamba nitachelewa kwenda kufanya kazi tu.

Mtemi Bayega akaamuru kumwadhibu tu. Akampiga kofi, mgeni  naye hakufanya jambo lolote, akapigwa tena ananyenyekea tu, akapigwa tena mara ya tatu.

Ndipo mgeni naye akaamua kupigana. Mtemi akapigwa fimbo mbavuni na hapo Mtemi akaamua kupigana sawa sawa. Akapigwa tena fimbo ya kichwani na kuanguka chini.

Akaangukia katika sehemu moja ambayo ilikuwa na moto. Mahali hapo palipopikiwa pombe akapata ngeo na kuungua moto. Bayega akashindwa na mgeni, nao utawala ukachukuliwa na huyo mgeni.

Na kutangaza kwa wananchi kwamba utawala wa Bayega ulikuwa mbaya. Mgeni naye akaweka sheria nyingine kuhusu na mpango wa kusubiri wananchi kunywa pombe. Akawaambia wananchi kwamba wakati nitakapochelewa kuja ni lazima wananchi wanywe, si kunisubiri.

ENGLISH: YOU WILL SEE THE ONE THAT WOUNDED BAYEGA.

In the past, there was a man called Bayega. He decided to live alone in the wilderness where there were no people. Later, some people began to move to the wilderness and found him living in peace.

He began to givepeople some plots to make them live in the wilderness. Those people thanked him so much that they made him chief of that area. Bayega was very happy to be given the kingdom. Chief Bayega had so much wisdom. He started ordering the people as a ruler.

Whenever alcohol was cooked in his area,he was the first to come and taste it.Thereafter, other people were permitted to drink.

He was very concerned about drinking.That was because he was very selfish. He slept at around ten o’clock at night and got up  at around nine orteno’clock in the morning. He also gave the most severe punishment whenever he found anyone who had drunka lcohol before he had tasted it. He could cane that  person twenty-five strokes.

All people were afraid of him.They did not dare to drink alcohol without the permission of the chief. There was a man who had just moved to that place from another country. That man did not know the Chief’s directives.

He was just told by his hosts about the commands of the chief and his various punishments that he gave to the villagers. The newcomer was very surprised to see the state of suffering the people of that place were experiencing.

One day, alcohol had been made in the area. The newcomer was in a hurry going to his farm.He went to the place where alcohol had been made and found the people.He said, “Fellows get me a drink.”

His hosts told him that Chief Bayega has not yet come to taste thealcohol. The new comer waited for five hours.After that long waiting, he said, “Give me a drink.” Others said they should not give him, for the chief had not yet come.

After being told so, he refused and decided forced to be given alcohol. Then the hosts decided to give him just because he had refused to continue waiting. After the newcomer, had just finished drinking, the chief came.

When Chief Bayega saw that one pot was not full, he asked why the pot was not full. The hosts said to him, “We just gave alcohol to the newcomer. He drank and went to work.”

“Why did you give him?”, he asked. “Because he said he would be late to work.” The Chief said, “Bringhim here.” Two delegates went to call him, and the chief asked, “Why have you decided to drink alcohol before I drink?” The newcomer replied, “I have decided to drink because I waited and saw that I would be late  for work.”

Chief Bayega decided to punish him. He slapped him, and the new comer did nothing.He was beaten  again. He still  humbled himself.He was beaten the third time.

Then the newcomer decided to fight. The chief was beaten with a stick on his ribs.The chief decided to continue with the fight. He was struck again witha stick on the head and he fell down.

Unfortunately, the chief fell into fire. As a result the chief got wounded. That means Bayega was defeated by the newcomer.Then seat got taken by the newcomer.

After that, the newcomer made new rules about tasting alcohol. He told the people “If I am late, people should drink.They should not wait for me.”

Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, alipokuwa bado Rais wa Tanzania. Siku moja alialikwa kufungua Zahanati katika mkoa fulani. Alifika Jumamosi jioni, akakaa na viongozi wa mahali hapo. Akaomba asome ratiba ya ufunguzi.

Utaratibu ulikuwa hivi:

Kupokea wageni.

Wimbo wa Taifa.

Kwaya, Michezo, n.k.

Hotuba ya mkuu wa mkoa n.k.

Akasoma ratiba yote lakini hakuona neno juu ya kumtukuza Mungu. Akawaangalia kwa hasira na kuichana ratiba mbele yao, akasema, “Ninyi mnajua kwamba mimi ni mkristu Mkatoliki, huwa nasali Misa kila Jumapili. Na hapa kuna wakristu wengi ambao wanasali, kwa nini katika ratiba yenu haipo nafasi ya kumtukuza Mungu, au kumshukuru?

English: Launching Of A Dispensary.

ENGLISH: THE LAUNCHING OF A DISPENSARY

When MwalimuJulius Nyerere was still the President of Tanzania, he was one day invited to launch a dispensary in a particular region. He arrived there on Saturday evening.He stayed with the local leaders of that place. He asked to be given the opening schedule.

The schedule read as follows:

Receiving visitors.

The National Anthem.

Choir, sports and games, etc.

The speech of the regional commissioner etc.

He read the whole schedule but he did not see anything about glorifying God. As reaction, he looked at them with anger and tore the schedule in front of them saying, “You know that I am a Catholic, I normally attend Mass every Sunday. And here there are many Christians who pray.Why is it that in your schedule there is no space for glorifying God, or for thanking Him?

Ikanza lwa kale oliho Nsumba umo nzunya nhabhi. Wikalaga uzwala madaso na oliadina jilatu umumagulu. Abhiye bhalibhandalaha na gunseka noi. Hangi bhangemaga nyahala bhalihaya, “Bhebhe ulinzunya, ulu Mulungu agutogilwe, nibhuli adagulanghanaga na gukulinda? Adadulile gung’wila nulu munhu umo agwinhe ng’wenda nulu jilatu?”

Unsumba ng’wenuyo agayanga noi ukunu agwitaga jisoji alihaya, “Naliganika uMulungu agubhawilaga abhanhu, aliyo bhadandegelekaga.”

Kiswahili: Kijana Fukara

Enzi hizo alikuwapo kijana mmoja mkristu  fukara. Alikuwa anavaa matambara (yaani nguo chakavu) na hakuwa na viatu miguuni. Wenzake walimdharau na kumcheka sana.

Pia walimdhihaki wakisema, “wewe ni mkristu, kama Mungu anakupenda, kwa nini hakulindi na kukutunza? Hawezi kumwambia hata mtu mmoja akupe nguo au viatu? Kijana alihangaika mno na huku akitokwa na machozi akasema, “Nafikiri Mungu anawaambia watu, lakini hawamsikilizi.”

ENGLISH: A POOR BOY

There was a poor young man who was Christian. He used to wear rags (tatters). He had no shoes either.  His friends despised him and laughed at him.

They also mocked him, saying, “You are a Christian.If God loves you, why does He not guard you and take care of you?  He can’t He even tell someone to give you clothes or shoes?” The boy was very grieved and he cried saying, “I think God tells people, but they don’t listen to him.”
