KISWAHILI: UMEZALIWA IKULUNI.

Yohane 6:50- 57.

Mathayo 6:11. “Utupe leo chakula chetu tunachohitaji.”

ENGLISH: YOU WERE BORN IN PALACE.

This saying comes from a certain person who arrived at his fellow’s house and found them eating food. As a way to welcome him, they said ‘you were born in palace’ to mean the land of plenty and abundance; a house of the king. In the past, when someone is installed as a king in a certain area he was to ensure that his people do not suffer from hunger and if the harvest will be only crops such as cowpeas, groundnuts and other food crops, he was regarded as a king of women. But if people will manage to have good harvests of crops such as sorghum, he will be regarded as the king of men.

Kings, in the past, were highly respected. This is why people could stand and cheer him up by clapping hands when he passes around. The same to food, people will tend to clap hands when they finish eating, in the same way they used to cheer up their king. In this case, their clapping of hands means calling someone responsible to collect the vessels after they have finished eating. They clap hands to mean that the ‘king has already gone’ Refer to Kueneza Injili kwa Methali which means ‘Spreading the Gospel through Proverbs,’ page 64). This book was written by researchers: Fr. Donald Sybertz, M.M., and Fr. Joseph Healey M.M., published by Benedictine Publications, Ndanda – Peramiho, 1984.

This saying teaches people about the generosity of welcoming people to their food, because food is essential to the wellbeing of the human body and life in general.

“In a person’s life food is the most important thing. Food is our king in that it gives us life.

Again the Word of the Lord is the food that gives us the life of God in us, the life of God Himself who is immortal.

The sacrament of the Eucharist is a true and very important food that sustains and enhances the life of God in us. “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood dwells in me and I in him” (John 6:56).

When you get to the church you will find your Lord Jesus Christ in the form of bread in the Tabernacle. He doesn’t leave. Our Catholic faith informs us and assures us that Jesus Christ is indeed in the form of bread in the sacrament of Eucharist. Therefore, we must worship and glorify in this sacrament. ” (Refer to ‘Spreading the Gospel in Proverbs,’ page 65).
