Itulo yiniyo igingilaga hado hado ukuli munhu, niyo bho nduhu ugudebha chiza uweyi, kunguno agwimanila otindilaga duhu, mumo agakulia agulyeha duhu bho gutindila chiniko. Hunagwene umili gugagemanijiyagwa na lidumu ilo litungile bhulubha bho gwiganila giki, “kab’ulub’a kanenezu katungile lidumu – tulo.”

Ikalagu yiniyo igalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agilendejaga bho gutindila mpaga okeleja ugujutumama imilimo yakwe, umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agakelejaga noyi ugumisha mpaga oduma ugujutumama imilimo yakwe kunguno ya kutugwa tulo jakwe jinijo, umukikalile kakwe. Uweyi agagayiyagwa ijiliwa ijagulya aha kaya yakwe kunguno ya kutogwa tulo jakwe jinijo ijo agajizunilijaga mpaga janendeja ugujutumama imilimo yakwe, umuwikaji bhokwe bhunubho.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikolaga ni lidumu ilo ligalendejiwa bho gutungwa na kab’ulub’a kanenezu, kunguno nuweyi agalyehiyagwa na tulo mpaga wilendeja ugujutumama imilimo yakwe, umuwikaji bhokwe bhunubho. Hunagwene abhanhu bha muchalo jakwe bhagang’wilaga giki, “kab’ulub’a kanenezu katungile lidumu – tulo.”

Ikalagu yiniyo, yalanga bhanhu bhigulya ya kuleka wilendeja bho kukindwa tulo mpaga bhakeleja ugujutumama imilimo yabho, kugiki bhadule gupandika sabho ningi ja gujilisha chiza ikaya jabho, umuwikaji bhobho.

KISWAHILI: KITENDAWILI –  TEGA.

UZI MWEMBAMBA UMEFUNGA DUMU – USINGIZI.

Chanzo cha kitendawili hicho, chaongelea juu ya uzingizi. Usingizi huo, huingia pole pole kwa mtu bila ya yeye kuelewa vizuri, kwa sababu mtu huyo hujikuta amesingia tu, hata kama atakuwa mkubwa kiasi gani, atatulia kwa kusinzia namna hiyo. Ndiyo maana mwili wa mtu huyo hufananishwa na dumu lililofungwa uzi  mwembamba kwa kuhadithiana kwamba, “uzi mwembamba umefunga dumu – usingizi.”

Kitendawili hicho, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hujisahau kwa kusinzia mpaka akachelewa kwenda kazini kwake, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, huchelewa sana kuamuka mpaka anajikuta amechekewa pia kwenda kufanya kazi zake, kwa sababu ya kupenda sana usingizi wake huo, katika maisha yake. Yeye hukosa chakula mara nyingi katika familia yake, kwa sababu ya kuendekeza usingizi wake huo ambao huuruhusu mpaka unamchelewesha kwenda kufanya kazi zake, maishani mwake.

Mtu huyo hufanana na lile dumu lililo zubaishwa kwa kufungwa na uzi mwembamba, kwa sababu naye huzubaishwa na usingizi mpaga anachelewa kwenda kufanya kazi zake, katika maisha yake hayo. Ndiyo maana watu wa kijijini mwake humwambia kwamba, “uzi mwembamba umefunga dumu – usingizi.”

Kitendawili hicho, hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha kuchelewa kwenda kufanya kazi zao kwa kuendekeza uzingizi, ili waweze kupata mali nyingi za kutosha kuzilisha vizuri familia zao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: I HAVE A RIDDLE – LET IT COME.

A THIN THREAD HAS TIED A GALLON – A SLUMBER.

The origin of the overhead riddle talks about a slumber. Such slumber is a sleep that enters slowly into a person without him fully understanding it, because that person finds himself in a deep sleep, no matter how big he is, he will settle down in such a sleep. That is why the body of such person is likened to a gallon which is tied by a thin thread by saying to one another that, “a thin thread has tied a gallon – a slumber.”

This riddle is compared to a person who forgets him/herself by sleeping until he is late to work in his lifetime. This person wakes up so late that he finds himself too lazy to go to work, because he likes his sleep so much, in his life. He often misses food in his family, because of his sleep deprivation that prevents him from going to work in his life.

This man is resembles the person who was bound by a thin thread, because he is also tossed about by sleeping until he goes to work late, in his life. That is why the people in his village tell him that, “a thin thread has tied a gallon – a slumber.”

This riddle imparts in people an idea on how to avoid committing delays by resorting to stalling, so that they can earn enough money to feed their families well in life.

Ikalagu yiniyo, ihoyelile ng’wengeji go ng’wa munhu uyo gugalenganijiyagwa na nsaji. Ung’wengeji gunuyo, gugang’wigemejaga ung’winikili ogo umo alitila, kunguno guli mbeho iyo igabhejiagwa na mili gokwe, umunhu ng’wunuyo. Ugoyi gub’izile guti nsaji o ng’winikili mili, kunguno gudadulile ugwiganika bho bhugagaja. Hunagwene ung’winikili ogo agayombaga giki, “aho nalihambila unti nu nsaji one onilindilaga – ng’wengeji.”

Ikalagu yiniyo, igalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agatumamaga milimo yakwe bho gwigemeja bhanhu bhangi, umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, adiganikaga bho gutumila bhugagaja umubhutumami bhokwe, nu mukikalile kakwe, kunguno ya gutumama milimo yakwe bho gung’wigemeja munhu ungi na gwikala bho gung’wigemeja ungi chiniko. Uweyi agadumaga uguyibheja chiza ikaya yakwe kunguno ya gwigemeja bhanhu bhangi bho nduhu ugwiganika nyagagaja, umuwikaji bhokwe.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikolaga nu ng’wengeji uyo gugigemeja umo alitila ung’winikili ogo, kunguno nu weyi agigemeja bhanhu bhangi bho nduhu ugwiganika nyagagaja, umubhutumami nu mukikalile kakwe kenako. Hunagwene uyo agang’wigemejaga agayombaga giki, “aho nalihambila unti nu nsaji one onilindilaga – ng’wengeleji.”

Ikalagu yiniyo, yalanga bhanhu higulya ya gutumama milimo yabho bho gwiganika na bhugagaja bhobho, kugiki bhadule gupandika matwajo mingi, umuwikaji bhobho.

PALE NINAPOPANDIA MTI NA MWEHU WANGU AMENISUBIRI – KIVULI.

Kitendawili hicho, huongelea juu ya kivuli cha mtu kinachofananishwa na mwehu. Kivuli hicho, humuiga anachofanya mwenye nacho, kwa sababu ni kivuli cha mwili wake, mtu huyo. Chenyewe hulinganishwa na mwehu kwa sababu ya kutokuweza kufikiri kibunifu. Ndiyo maana mwenye kivuli hicho husema, “pale ninapopandia mti na mwehu wangu amenisubiri – Kivuli.”

Kitendawili hicho, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hufanya kazi zake kwa kuwaiga wengine bila kutumia ubunifu wake, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, huwa hafikiri kibunifu katika maisha yake na utendaji wake, kwa sababu ya kuwaiga watu wengine bila kuutumia ubunifu wake. Yeye hushindwa kuiendeleza vizuri familia yake, kwa sababu ya kuwaiga wengine hao katika kazi zake, na maisha yake, bila kufikiri kibunifu, maishani mwake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na kivuli kinachomuiga mwenye nacho, kwa sababu naye hufanya kazi zake kwa kuwaiga wengine bila kufikiri kwa kutumia ubunifu wake, katika maisha yake. Ndiyo maana yule anayemuiga husema kwamba, “pale ninapopandia mti na mwehu wangu amenisubiri – Kivuli.”

Kitendawili hicho, hufundisha watu juu ya kufanya kazi zao kwa kufikiri kibunifu, ili waweze kupata mafanikio mengi, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: I HAVE A RIDDLE – LET IT COME.

WHEREVER I PLANT A TREE AND MY CRAZY FRIEND IS WAITING FOR ME – A SHADOW.

This riddle speaks about a shadow of a man. This shadow impersonates what the possessor does, because it is a reflector of his body. In itself it is compared to crazy friend because of its inability to think creatively. That is why the owner of it says that, “wherever I plant a tree and my crazy friend is waiting for me – a shadow.”

This riddle is equaled to a man who does his work by imitating others without using his creative thinking in life. This man does not think creatively in his life, because he imitates other people without using his thinking capacity. He fails to develop well his family, because of imitating others in his daily economic activities without having a creative thinking in life.

This person resembles the shadow of a person that imitates the possessor, because he also does his works by imitating others without thinking creatively in his life. That is why the one who imitates him says that, “Wherever I plant a tree and my crazy friend is waiting for me – a shadow.”

This riddle imparts in people a clue on how to do their work with creative thinking, so that they can achieve more successes in their family lives.

Ikalagu yiniyo ihoyelile mab’ele. Amab’ele geneyo gali gape, nulu igab’iza giti gagigengelekaga duhu, umugati ya jiseme. Agoyi gali gape guti ng’weji uyo gugejaga ibhujiku. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagiganilaga giki, “nina ng’weji mugati ya jiseme – Mab’ele.”

Ikalagu yiniyo, igalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo alina ng’holo yape, umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, alina ng’holo yape guti mab’ele kunguno nayo ili mugati ya mili go ng’wa munhu ng’wunuyo. Uweyi agamanyikaga kulwa kayombele kakwe na mito gakwe ayo galigawiza genayo, nulu ib’ize giti, ing’holo yakwe igelaga duhu, umuwikaji bhokwe.

Ing’holo ya ng’wa munhu ng’wunuyo, igikolaga na mab’ele ayo gali mujiseme, kunguno nayo iliyape iyo igikalaga mugati ya mili go ng’wa munhu uyo agiyolechaga bho gwikala chiza na bhanhu bhakwe. Uweyi agabhalangaga abhanhu bhake higulya ya kubhiza na ng’holo jape kugiki bhadule gwikala chiza na bhanhu bhabho, bho kikalile kakwe kenako. Hunagwene agabhawilaga abhanhu bhakwe bhenabho giki, “nina ng’weji mugati ya jiseme – Mab’ele.”

Ikalagu yiniyo yalanga bhanhu higulya ya gubhiza na ng’holo yape bho gwiyambilija gugamama wangu amakoye gabho na gutumama milimo yabho chiza, kugiki bhadule gwikala chiza na gupandika matwajo mingi, umuwikaji bhobho.

NINA MWEZI NDANI YA BAKULI – MAZIWA.

Kitendawili hicho, huongelea juu ya maziwa. Maziwa hayo ni meupe hata kama yakiwa gizani huonekana wazi ndani ya chombo yalimotiwa. Yenyewe ni meupe kama mwezi uangazao usiku. Ndiyo maana watu huhadithiana kwamba, “nina mwezi ndani ya bakuli – maziwa.”

Kitendawili hicho, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye ana moyo mweupe kama mazima, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, ana moyo mweupe ndani ya mwili wake, kama maziwa yaliyotiwa ndani ya bakuli, ambao huonekana kwa sababu ya wenyewe kumwezesha mtu huyo kutenda mema kwa wenzake. Yeye hujulikana kwa njia kutenda matendo yake mema yaangazao gizani, kwa sababu huwa yanatoka kwenye moyo wake huo mweupe, maishani mwake.

Moyo wa mtu huyo, hufanana na yale maziwa yaliyomo kwenye bakuli, kwa sababu nao ni mweupe uliyomo ndani ya mwili wa mtu ambao hujionesha kwenye maisha mema ya mtu huyo aishiye vizuri na wenzake. Yeye huwafundisha watu wake juu ya kuwa na moyo huo mweupe, ili waweze kuishi na watu vizuri, kwa njia ya maisha yake. Ndiyo maana huwaambia watu wake hao kwamba, “nina mwezi ndani ya bakuli – maziwa.”

Kitendawili hicho, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na moyo mweupe kwa kusaidiana katika kuyatatua matatio yao, na kufanya kazi zao vizuri, ili waweze kuishi vizuri na kupata mafanikio mengi, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: I HAVE A RIDDLE – LET IT COME.

I HAVE A MOON INSIDE A BOWL – MILK.

This riddle talks about some milk. This milk is white in color even if it is in the dark it is clearly visible inside the container. It is as white as the moon at night. That is why people tell each other that, “I have a moon inside a bowl – milk.”

This puzzle is compared to the person who has a white or good heart in his life. This person has a white heart in his body like milk that has been poured into a bowl, which can be seen because of doing good deeds to his fellows. He/she is known for his good deeds that shine in the dark because they come from his white or clean heart in his life.

The heart of this person is like some milk which is in a bowl, because he also has white or clean heart in his body which is seen in living good life with his colleagues. He teaches his people about having that pure heart, so that they can live well with others in their lives. That is why he tells his people that, “I have a moon inside a bowl – milk.”

This riddle teaches people on how to be pure in heart by helping each other enough to solve their problems, so that they can live well to the point of achieving more successes in their lives.

Ikalagu yiniyo, ihoyelile shu ib’ili. Ulushu ulo gwandya ulo nagalutumamilaga hu b’upanga, kunguno abhanhu dugikalaga mhola kulwa b’udula b’o Nsumbi wise. Uluhuu ulo kab’ili hu Lufu, kunguno aise bhanhu dugachaga. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, “ubhabha oninha shu ib’ili lumo nagalutumilaga ulungi nadalutumilaga – b’upanga na Lufu.”

Ikalagu yiniyo, igalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agabhutumilaga chiza, ubhupanga bhokwe, umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agatumama milimo yakwe iya gung’wenhela jiliwa bho gumsendamila Mungu, kunguno ahayile apandike nguzu ja gugudamya umili gokwe. Uweyi apandikaga sabho ja gubhulanhanile chiza ubhupanga bhokwe nubho bhiye, kunguno ya bhutumami wiza bho milimo yakwe yiniyo, umukikalile kakwe.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikolaga nu lushu lo b’upanga ulo lugatumamilagwa kunguno nang’hwe agabhutumilaga chiza ubhupanga bhokwe bho gunsendamila Mulungu umu bhutumami bho milimo yakwe yiniyo, umukikalile kakwe. Hunagwene agayombaga giki, “ubhabha oninha shu ib’ili lumo nagalutumilaga ulungi nadalutumilaga – B’upanga na Lufu.”

BABA AMENIPA VISU VIWILI KIMOJA NINAKITUMIA KINGINE SIKITUMII – UHAI NA KIFO.

Kitendawili hicho, huongelea juu ya visu viwili ambavyo ni uhai na kifo. Kisu cha kwanza ni uhai kwa sababu huwa dunabaki salama kwa uwezo wake Muumba wetu.

Kisu cha pili ni kifo ambacho hatukitumii kwa sababu wanadamu wote hufa mahali popote ukifika muda wake. Hivyo hatukitumii kifo hicho. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, “baba amenipa visu viwili kimoja ninakitumia kingine sikitumii – uhai na kifo.”

Kitendawili hicho, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye huutumia uhai wake vizuri, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, hujibidisha kufanya kazi kwa kumtegemea Mungu awezaye kumlinda kwa sababu ya kutaka kupata chakula cha kumpatia nguvu za kuendelea kuwa hai. Yeye hupata mafanikio ya kuwa na mali nyingi kwa sababu ya bidii yake hiyo ya kuyatekeleza majukumu yakwe, kwa kumtegemea Mungu, maishani mwake. Mali hiyo, humuwezesha kuulinda uhai wake na wa wenzake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na kile kisu cha uhai kitumiwacho, kwa sababu naye huulinda uhai wake kwa kuyatekeleza majukumu yake katika imani ya kumtegemea Mungu, maishani mwake. Ndiyo maana huwaambia watu kwamba, “baba amenipa visu viwili kimoja ninakitumia kingine sikitumii – uhai na kifo.”

Kitendawili hicho, hufundisha watu juu ya kuutumia uhai wao kwa kuyatekeleza majukumu yao, katika imani ya kumtegemea Mungu, ili waweze kuishi kwa amani na wenzao, hadi kufa kwao.

ENGLISH: I HAVE A RIDDLE – LET IT COME.

MY FATHER HAS GIVEN ME ONE TWO KNIVES, ONE I USE THE OTHER I DO NOT USE – LIFE AND DEATH.

This riddle speaks of two knives, namely life and death. The first knife is life because it keeps us safe by the power of our Creator.

The second knife is death that we do not use because all human beings die anywhere when its time comes. So we are not using that death. That is why people say that, “My father has given me two knives, one I use and the other I do not use – life and death.”

This riddle is equated to the person who spends his life well in his life. This person works hard by relying in God who can protect him and provide him with basic needs such as food, shelter and clothes because he needs them for keeping him alive. He achieves great wealth because of his diligence in fulfilling his responsibilities by relying in God.  He manages to get properties which can enable him to protect his own life and that of others.

This person resembles the knife of life which one uses, because he also protects his life by fulfilling his responsibilities in faith and trust by depending on God in his life. That is why he tells people that, “My father has given me two knives, one I use and the other I do not use – life and death.”

This riddle instills in people an idea on how to use their lives by fulfilling their responsibilities by depending on God, so that they can live in peace with one another until death.

Ikalagu yiniyo ilolile Sa. Isa yiniyo, igabhalaga dagika makumi atandatu huna likoma ilikanza ilya Sa imo, kunguno iSa ili na dakika makumi atandatu. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, “umayu alina bhana makumi atandatu – Sa.”

Ikalagu yiniyo igalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agalitumilaga chiza ilikanza lyakwe, umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agatumama milimo yakwe bho gudilila Sa, kunguno ajimanile isolobho ja gulitumila ilikanza lyakwe linilo bho gutumama milimo. Uweyi agaponaga majiliwa mingi kunguno ya gulitumamila chiza, ilikanza lyake linilo, bho gutumama milimo na guimala chiza, umuwikaji bhokwe.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikolaga ni Sa iyo igatumilaga dakika makumi atandatu huna likomo ilisa ilimo, kunguno nuweyi agalitumilaga chiza ilikanza lyakwe linilo bho gutumama milimo yakwe, ukunhu alilola Sa, umukikalile kakwe. Hunagwene agayombaga giki, “umayu alina bhana makumi atandatu – Sa.”

Ikalagu yiniyo, yalanga bhanhu higulya ya kulitumila chiza ilikanza lyabho bho gulitumamila milimo yabho chiza, kugiki bhadule gupandika jiliwa ja jilanghanila chiza ikaya jabho jinijo, umuwikaji bhobho.

Kitendawili hicho, huangalia Saa. Saa hiyo, husebu dakika sitini ndipo inatimia Saa moja, kwa sababu saa moja ina dakika hizo sitini. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, “mama ana watoto sitini – Saa.”

Kitendawili hicho, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule anayeutumia vizuri muda wake, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, huyatekeleza majukumu yake kwa kuangalia saa, kwa sababu anazifahamu faida za kuutumia muda wake huo kwa kufanya kazi vizuri. Yeye hupata mazao mengi katika mashamba yake kwa sababu ya kuutumia muda wake huo kwa kuyatekeleza majukumu yake vizuri, maishani mwake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na Saa inavyohesabu mpaga dakika sitini ndipo inatimia, kwa sababu naye huyatekeleza majukumu yake kwa kutumia saa ili aweze kuutumia muda wake kwa kufanya kazi vizuri, katika maisha yake. Ndiyo maana husema kwamba, “mama ana watoto sitini – Saa.”

Kitendawili hicho, hufundisha watu juu ya kuutumia muda wao kwa kuyatekeleza majukumu yao vizuri, ili waweze kupata mazao ya chakula cha kutosha kuzilisha vizuri familia zao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: I HAVE A RIDDLE – LET IT COME.

MY MOTHER HAS SIXTY CHILDREN – AN HOUR.

The overhead riddle looks at an Hour. The hour counts sixty minutes for completing it, because one hour has sixty minutes. That is why people say that, “My mother has sixty children – an Hour.”

This enigma is related to the person who spends well most of his time in his life. This person, in turn, fulfills his or her responsibilities by looking at the clock, because he or she is aware of the benefits of using that time well. He gets a lot of produce from his fields because he nicely uses his time by fulfilling his responsibilities well in his life.

This person is similar to the Hour that counts for sixty minutes for fulfilling it, because he also fulfills his responsibilities by using the clock so that he can use his time to work well in his life. That is why they say that, “My mother has sixty children – an hour.”

This riddle teaches people on how to use their time well by fulfilling their responsibilities, so that they can get enough food to feed their families in their lives.
