832. NVA IYO ILINANYAMA MNOMO IDAYOGANYAGA.

Inva ulu yusola nyama igaidimilaga bho guyiluma bho mino gayo. Inva yiniyo, igayichalaga inyama yiniyo bho sele uko yijile, kunguno igogohaga guyigwisha ulu yasama bho guyoganya. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, “nva iyo ilina nyama mnomo idayoganyaga.”

Ulusumo lunulo, lugalenganijiyagwa kubhanhu bhasabhi bha jikolo, abho bhagabhibhaga abhahabhi, umukikalile kabho. Abhanhu bhenabho, bhagabhibhaga abhichabho ukunhu bhahumulile sele kugiki bhadizumanyika. Abhoyi, bhagikalaga bhalemile ugujijimija isabho jinijo, kunguno bhagikalaga bhabhanile abho bhagabhibhilaga. Giko lulu, bhagajisolaga ijikolo ja bhichabho jinijo, bhibhisa bho guhumula sele, umukikalile kabho.

Abhanhu bhenabho, bhagikolaga ni nva iyo idayoganyaga ulu yalumaga nyama umunomo goyo, kunguno nabhoyi bhagahumulaga sele ulu bhasolaga jikolo ja bhichabho, umukikalile kabho. Hunagwene bhagabhawilaga abhanhu giki, “nva iyo ilina nyama mnomo idayoganyaga.”

Ulusumo lunulo, lolanga bhanhu higulya ya guleka gwibha sabho ja bhichabho bho kujilang’hana chiza isabho ijo bhalinajo, umukikalile kabho, kugiki bhadule gwikala bho mholele na bhichabho, umuwikaji bhobho.

KISWAHILI: MBWA MWENYE MNOFU MDOMONI HAPIGI KELELE.

Mbwa akichukua nyama huishikiria kwa meno yake. Mbwa huyo, huipeleka nyama hiyo kule aendako akiwa kimya kwa sababu ya kuogopata kuiangusha akiachama kwa kupiga kelele. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, “mbwa mwenye mnofu mdomoni hapigi kelele.”

Methali hiyo, hulinganishwa kwa watu wale waliona mali ambao huwaibia maskini, katika maisha yao. Watu hao, huwaibia maskini hao huku wakiwa kimya ili wasije wakajulikana. Wao huo hawataki kuziachilia mali za watu hao maskini kwa sababu ya kujijali wao wenyewe zaidi kuliko wenzao, maishani mwao. Hivyo wao huwaibia wenzao hao maskini na kujificha kwa kukaa kimya, katika maisha yao.

Watu hao, hufanana na yule mbwa asiyepiga kelele akiwa na nyama mdomoni mwake, kwa sababu nao huwaibia maskini hao na kukaa kimya wakiwa nazo mali hizo. Ndiyo maana watu huwaambia kwamba, “mbwa mwenye mnofu mdomoni hapigi kelele.”

Methali hiyo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha tabia ya wizi kwa kuzitunza vizuri mali walizo nazo, katika maisha yao, ili waweze kuishi kwa amani na wenzao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: A DOG WITH A STEAK MEAT IN THE MOUTH DOES NOT BARK.

The dog grabs meat and holds it with its teeth. Such dog takes the meat to its destination in silence because it is afraid of dropping it while barking. That is why people say that “a dog with a steak meat in the mouth does not bark.”

This proverb is compared to people who have property that they robbed the poor in their lifetime. These people rob the poor while they are silent so that they will not be known. They do not want to give up the property of these poor people because they care more about themselves than their peers in their lives. So they rob their poor fellows and hide in silence in their lives.

These people are like a dog that does not shout when it has meat in its mouth, because they also rob the poor and keep silent with those possessions. That is why people tell them that “a dog with a steak meat in the mouth does not bark.”

This proverb teaches people on how to stop stealing properties of others, by taking good care of their possessions in their lives, so that they can live in peace with each other in their societies.

831. MBULI IYO IDAFULAGA MAFA AGALIBIHI NAYO NG’HALILO KULYA MALWA.

Imbuli igalyaga mafa ayo galibihi nayo aho agikalaga. Aliyo lulu, imbuli iyo idafulaga amafa genayo, igajaga gujugalya ayo gali kule nayo. Amafa genayo, gagabhizaga ga mbuli jingi ijo jigayilemejaga imbuli yiniyo bho gwikenya nayo. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayomgaga giki, “mbuli iyo idafulaga mafa agalibihi nayo ng’halilo gulya malwa.”

Ulusumo lunulo, lugalenanijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo adafulaga ni jikolo ijo alijo, umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agajilekagaga ijikolo jakwe ogasola ja bhangi, kunguno ya lwaha lokwe lunulo, ulo gwikumva sabho ja bhiye. Abhinikili bha jikolo jinijo, bhaganemejaga ugujisola mpaga nose bhikenya nang’hwe. Uweyi agaikenagulaga ikaya yakwe bho guyenhela mamihayo ga sagala, kunguno ya bhujidafula bhokwe bhunubho, umukikalile kakwe.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikolaga ni mbuli iyo yalidafulaga amafa gayo, kunguno nuweyi adafulaga ijikolo ijo alinajo, umuwikaji bhokwe. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga giki, “mbuli iyo idafulaga mafa agalibihi nayo ng’halilo gulya malwa.”

KISWAHILI: MBUZI ASIYERIDHIKA NA NYASI ZILIZOKO KARIBU NAYE KULA MAPIGANO.

Mbuzi hula nyazi ambazo ziko karibu naye pale alipo. Lakini basi, mbuzi yule aliyetosheka na nyazi hizo, huenda kula zile zilizoko mbali naye. Nyazi hizo, huzuiliwa na mbuzi walioko kwenye maeneo hayo kwa kupigana na mbuzi huyo. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, “mbuzi asiyeridhika na nyazi zilizoko karibu naye hula mapigano.”

Methali hiyo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye huwa hatosheki na mali alizonazo, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, huziacha mali zake hizo na kwenda kuchukua mali za wenzake kwa sababu ya tamaa yake mbaya aliyo nayo. Wenye mali hizo, humzuia kuzichukua mpaga kufikia hatua ya kupigana naye.  Yeye huikaribu familia yake kwa kuiletea ugonvi wa hovyo unaosababishwa na tamaa yake hiyo mbaya, katika maisha yake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule mbuzi asiyetosheka na nyazi zake, kwa sababu naye huwa hatosheki na vitu vyake, katika maisha yake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “mbuzi asiyeridhika na nyazi zilizoko karibu naye hula mapigano.”

Methali hiyo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuachana na tamaa za kuchukua mali za wenzao, katika maisha yao, ili waweze kuzilea vizuri familia zao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: A GOAT THAT IS NOT SATISFIED WITH THE GRASSES THOSE ARE NEAR ALWAYS ENDS UP IN PROBLEMS.

A goat eats grasses that are near it. But then, the goat that is not satisfied with those grasses may eat the ones which are far away from it. Local goats from that area will stop such goat from eating them by fighting against it. That is why people say, “A goat that is not satisfied with the grasses those are near always ends up in problems.”

This proverb is likened to a man who is never satisfied with possessions which he has in his life. This man leaves his possessions and goes to take properties of his fellows because of his evil desires.

The owners, however, prevent him from taking their properties to the point of fighting against him. He destroys his family by inflicting unbridled lust on it, which is the result of his own evil desires in his life.

This person is like the goat that was not satisfied with grasses which were near to it, because he is also not satisfied by his possessions in life. That is why people say to him, “A goat that is not satisfied with the grasses those are near always ends up in problems.”

This proverb teaches people about giving up the desire of taking properties of others in their lives, so that they can morally raise their family members in their societies.

830. MALIKO MINGI GAGUBEHELA ILO LYITA NG’OMBE YASINZWA LILIMO.

Iliko jili ginhu ijo jigikalaga na moto uyo gudulile gutumamila milimo mingi. Giko lulu na bhanhu abho bhagabehega shigala bhagapembaga moto gogubehela, uyo gudulile nulu guzugila nyama ya ng’ombe iyo yasinzagwa.

Aliyo lulu, ulu galihoyi maliko mingi agabhabehi bha shigala bhenabho, ligubhejiwa na gutumilwa liko limo duhu uguyizugila inyama yiniyo. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, “maliko mingi gagubehela ilo nyita ng’ombe yasinzwa lilimo.”

Ulusumo lunulo, lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agihayaga giki uweyi aliyo osolobho kukila abhiye, umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agatumama milimo yakwe bho gwigimba kugiki abhanhu abho bhalimona bhankumilije, kunguno adaibhonaga isolobho ya bhiye umu bhutumami bho milimo yiniyo. Uweyi adabhalekelaga abhiye imilimo yakwe, kunguyo ya gubhadahaya aliyo nabho bhagatumama chiza guti nuweyi.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikolaga na maliko agagubehela shigara, aliyo ilo ligatumilwa uzugila inyama lilimo duhu, kunguno nuweyi agiiganikaga giki alio solobho gulebha abhiye, aliyo bhadikilile umubhutumami bhobho. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga giki, “maliko mingi gagubehela ilo nyita ng’ombe yasinzwa lilimo.”

Ulusumo lunulo, lolanga bhanhu higulya ya kuleka nhungwa ja gwibhona giki bhali bha solobho kukila abhichabho, kugiki bhadule gwiyambilija kihamo ugujibheja chiza ikaya jabho, umuwikaji bhobho.

KISWAHILI: MAJIKO MENGI NI YA KUVUTIA SIGARA LAKINI LILILOFANYA NG’OMBE ACHINJWE NI MOJA TU.

Jiko ni chombo kile ambacho huwa na moto unaoweza kufanyia kazi mbalimbali. Hivyo basi, wavuta sigara huweza kuutumia moto huo ambao huwa wanauwasha kwa lengo la kuvutia sigara. Moto huo pia unaweza kutumika kwa kupikia au kuchomea nyama ya ng’ombe aliyechingwa.

Lakini yakiwepo majiko mengi ya wavutia sigara, jiko litakalotumika kuipikia nyama hiyo ni lile litakalo washwa kwa ajili ya ng’ombe huo. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, “majiko mengi ni ya kuvutia sigara lakini lilifanya ng’ombe achinjwe ni moja tu.

Methali hiyo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hujidai kuwa wa maana kuliko wenzake, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, huyatekeleza majukumu yake kwa kujigamba ili watu wanaomuona wamsifie, kwa sababu ya kujifikiria kwake kuwa ni wa maana kuliko wenzake anaoishi nao, katika utekelezaji wa majukumu hayo. Yeye huwa hawaamini wenzake kiasi cha kutosha kuwaachia kazi zake, kwa sababu ya tabia yake ya kuwadharau wenzake hao, wakati wanao uwezo wa kufanya kazi kama yeye.

Mtu huo hufanana na majiko ya kuvutia sigara, kwa sababu naye hujifikiria kuwa ni wa maana zaidi kuliko wenzake, katika maisha yake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “majiko mengi ni ya kuvutia sigara, lakini lilifanya ng’ombe achinjwe ni moja tu.”

Methali hiyo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuachana na tabia za kujifikiria kuwa wao ni wa maana zaidi kuliko wenzao, katika maisha yao, ili waweze kuwa na ushirikiano wa kuyatekeleza vizuri majukumu yao, kwa ajili ya kuziendeleza vizuri familia zao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: MANY KITCHENS ARE FOR SMOKING CIGARETTES BUT THE ONE THAT MAKES  A  COW BE SLAUGHTERED IS ONLY ONE.

A kitchen is a vessel that has a fire which can perform various functions. Thus, smokers may be able to use the fire, which they kindle, for the purpose of attracting smokers. The fire can also be used to cook or burn roasted beef.

But if there are many smokers’ kitchens, the kitchen that will be used to cook the meat is the one that has been lit for the cow. That is why people say, “Many kitchens are for smoking cigarettes but the one that makes a cow be slaughtered is only one.”

This proverb is compared to a person who claims to be more important than others in life. This person carries out duties with pride so that the people who see him/her will praise him/her because of considering oneself that is more important than others in that society. He/she does not trust others enough to give to them jobs, because of a tendency to despise them while they are capable of working like him.

This person is like the smokers’ kitchens, because he/she also thinks that he/she is more important than others in life. That is why people say to him/her, “Many kitchens are for smoking cigarettes but the one that makes a cow be slaughtered is only one.”

This proverb instills in people an idea of stopping habits of considering themselves as more important than others in their socieites, so that they can co-operate in fulfilling their daily responsibilities, for the betterment of their families.

829. NG’WIKAJI ATINA NGOFYOLO.

Akahayile kenako, kalolile wikaji bho ng’wana munhu uyo wikalaga ha kaya ya ng’wa munhu nhebhe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo otumamaga milimo ya ha kaya yiniyo bho gulipwa gitumo bhiyiigwila. Uweyi olipagwa hela ngehu duhu, kunguno olilaga hayo ijiliwa bhuli lushigu.

Kuyinyo lulu, ung’wikaji ng’wunuyo, oli adikalaga na hela ningi umukikalile kakwe, kunguno ihela ijingi ojililaga hayo ulu otengelwa ijiliwa. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, “ng’wikaji atina ngofyolo.”

Akahayile kenako, kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agatumamaga nimo uyo gudadulile ugung’wambilija ahashigu ijahabhutongi, umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agatumamaga nimo uyo gugang’wenhelaga hela ngehu duhu ijo agajigulilaga jiliwa ja gulya lushigu lumo duhu jashila. Uweyi agagayiyagwa ihela ja gung’wambilija ulu opandikaga makoye guti ga bhusatu, aha kayaya yakwe, kunguno ya gwisanga ojimala pye ihela jakwe bho gujigulila jiliwa, umuwikaji bhokwe.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikolaga nu mwikaji uyo opandikaga hela ngehu, kunguno nu weyi agapandika hela ngehu ijo agajigulilaga jiliwa, mpaka wisanya adina hela, ija gung’wimbilija umu makoye. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga giki, “ng’wikaji atina ngofyolo.”

Akahayile kenako, kalanga bhanhu higulya ya kutumama milimo yabho bho gujilang’hana chiza ihela jabho, kugiki bhadule kubhiza na hela ja gubhambilija umu makoye gabho.

KISWAHILI: MKAAJI HANA KIPATO.

Msemo huo, huangalia ukaaji wa mtu aliyeishi katika familia ya mtu fulani. Mtu huyo, aliishi kwa kufanya kibarua kwenye familia hiyo ambayo ilimlipa kwa kadiri ya makubariano yao. Yeye alilipwa pesa kidogo tu kwa sababu ya pesa nyingi kukatwa kwa ajili ya chakula alichokula hapo kila siku.

Kwa hiyo basi, hali hiyo ilipelekea kwa yeye kuwa na pesa kidogo katika maisha yake, kwa sababu ya hela yake yingine kukatwa na familia hiyo kwa ajili ya kulipia chakula alichopewa. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, “mkaaji hana kipato.”

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hufanya kazi isiyoweza kumsaidia katika siku za mbeleni, maishani mwake. Mtu huyo, huwa anafanya kazi ambayo humwingizia hela kidogo tu ambayo huimalizia kwenye mahitaji ya kununulia chakula cha siku moja. Yeye hukosa pesa za kuweza kumsaidia anapokumbwa na matatizo mbalimbali yakiwemo yale ya kuumwa, kwenye familia yake, kwa sababu ya kujikuta amezimalizia pesa zake zote kwenye mahitaji ya kununulia chakula, maishani mwake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule mkaaji aliyekuwa akipata pesa kidogo alizozimalizia kwenye chakula, kwa sababu naye huzimalizia pesa zake kwa kununulia chakula, mpaka anafikia hatua ya kuishi bila pesa. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “mkaaji hana kipato.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuyatekeleza majukumu yao, kwa kuzitunza vizuri pesa zao, ili waweze kuwa na ziada ya kuwatatulia matatizo yatakayokumba, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: AN OCCUPANT HAS NO INCOME.

This saying looks at a residence of a person who lived in someone’s family. This man made a living by working for that family which paid him according to their agreement. He was paid only a small amount of money because of the large amount of money he was deducted for the food he ate there every day.

As a result, the situation led to him having less money in his life, because of his extra money being cut off by the family to pay for the food which he was given. That is why people said, “an occupant has no income.”

This saying is likened to a man who does an unhelpful work in the future, in his lifetime. This person, in turn, does work that earns him a small amount of money that ends up in the need to buy food for one day. He runs out of money after having various problems which include illness, in his family, because he finds himself spending all his money on necessities to buy food in lifetime.

This person is like the resident who used to earn a little money on food, because he also spends his money on food, until he reaches the point of living without money. That is why people say to him, “an occupant has no income.”

The saying teaches people on how to fulfill their responsibilities, by taking good care of their money, so that they can have more of it for solving problems that will arise in their future lives.

828. GUFUNYA ILI GUTULA JIDIMILA ADAKWIJAGA.

Olihoyi munhu uyo ohayaga gupandika sabho ningi bho gulima ngunda ntale. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agafunya hela ja gugulila ilale na gulilimila. Aho alilima ililale linilo, agapandika sabho ningi kugila ijo olinajo igwandya. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, “gufunya ili gutula jidimila adakwijaga.”

Ulusumo lunulo, lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agazunyaga gujitumila ginhu jilebhe kugiki apandika jikolo jitale kukila ijagwandya, umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, adajilundikaga sagara isabho jakwe, kunguno ahayile ajikwije bho gujitumila chiza ijo alinajo. Uweyi agapandikaga sabho ningi umubhutumami bhokwe, kunguno ya gujitumila chiza ijo alinajo, umuwikaji bhokwe.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikolaga nuyo agafunya hela ja gugulila ilale na ja gulilimila, mpaga upandika sabho ningi, kunguno nuweyi agajitumilaga chiza isabho jakwe mpaga opandika ningi kukila ija gwandya. Uweyi agabhalangaga abhanhu bhakwe inzila ja gujikwigija isabho jabho, bho gujifunya ijo bhalinajo, kugiki bhadule gupandika jingi ijo jili ningi kulebha ijakale, umukikalile kabho. Hunagwene agabhawilaga abhanhu giki, “gufunya ili kutula jidimila adakwijaga.”

Mathayo 25:14-30.

KISWAHILI: KUTOA NI KUWEKA MSHIKILIAJI HAONGEZI.

Alikuwepo mtu ambaye alitaka kupata mali nyingi kwa kulima shamba kubwa. Mtu huyo, alitoa pesa za kulinunulia shamba hilo na za kulilimia. Alipolilima shamba lake hilo, alipata mali nyingi kupita zile alizokuwa nazo hapo mwanzoni. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, “kutoa ni kuweka mshikiliaji haongezi.”

Methali hiyo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hukubali kutoa kitu fulani ili aweze kupata kile ambacho ni kikubwa zaidi, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, huwa hajilundikii hovyo mali zake, kwa sababu anataka kupata nyingi kwa kuzitumia vizuri alizo najo. Yeye hufanikiwa kupata mali nyingi katika utekelezaji wa majukumu yake, kwa sababu ya kuzitumia vizuri mali alizo nazo, maishani mwake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule aliyetoa pesa za kununulia shamba na za kulilimia, mpaka akapata mali nyingi kupita zile za mwanzoni, kwa sababu naye huzitumia vizuri mali zake, mpaka anazipata zile zilizo nyingi zaidi ya zile za mwanzoni. Yeye huwafundisha watu wake njia za kuziongezea mali zao kwa kuziwekeza zile walizo nazo, ili waweze kupata nyingi, katika maisha yao. Ndiyo maana huwaambia watu kwamba, “kutoa ni kuweka mshikiliaji haongezi.”

Methali hiyo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuzitumia vizuri mali zao, kwa kuziwekeza, katika utekelezaji wa kazi zao, ili waweze kupata mafanikio ya kuwa na mali nyingi zaidi, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: HELPING  OTHERS IS  SAVING, THE  ONE  WHO  DOES  NOT  GIVE  DOES  NOT  GET  MORE.

There was a man who wanted to make a lot of money by plowing a large field. He gave money to buy the field that was bid enough to cultivate it. When he plowed his field, he gained more wealth than he had at first. That is why people said that, “helping  others is  saving, the  one  who  does  not  give  does  not  get  more.”

This proverb is likened to a man who agrees to give something so that he can get what is greater, in his life. He does not accumulate wealth, because he wants to get more out of it by making good use of what he has. He manages to acquire many properties in the enactments of his duties, because of the good use of the resources he has in life.

This man is like the one who gave money to buy land and cultivate it, until he had more money than what he had before, because he also uses his wealth well, until he gets more than what he had before. He teaches his people various ways for increasing their wealth by investing what they have, so that they can get more in their lives. That is why he tells people that, “helping  others is  saving, the  one  who  does  not  give  does  not  get  more.”

This proverb imparts in people an idea on how to use their wealth wisely, by investing it in fulfilling their daily duties, so that they can be more successful in having more wealth in their families.
