Akahayile kenako, kingilile kubhukeleja bho ng’wa munhu guja gujuhoyela mihayo. Olihoyi munhu uyo oliwitanwa gujuhoya na bhanhu higulya ya mihayo ya kigasije kasoga. Umunhu ng’wunuyo agakeleja uguja aha kaya yiniyo mpaga nose imihayo yiniyo yushila na ushiga nang’hwe lulu. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wila giki, “ng’wenuyu nsanga yashila.”

Akahayile kenako, kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo adashingimukaga wangu uliuwilwa mhayo umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agakeleja gwa nulu agawilwa gwanguha nduhu, agusanga abhiye bhamalaga nulu gutumama nimo gosese kunguno ya bhugokolo na bhujidalonja bhokwe bhunubho, umuwikaji bhokwe. Uweyi agikalaga akelile bhuli ng’waka aha kaya yakwe kunguno ya bhukeleja bho gujutumama milimo bhokwe bhunubho, umuwikaji bhokwe.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikolaga nuyo agakeleja kuja kumahoya mpaga nose usanga abhiye bhamalaga uguhoya, kunguno nuweyi agakelejaga bhuli kwene uko ajile mpaga nose oduma ugupandika ijiliwa umukikalile kakwe. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga giki, “ng’wenuyo nsanga yashila.”

Akahayile kenako, kalanga bhanhu higulya ya gwanguha ugujutumama imilimo yabho bho gwiyambilija chiza, kugiki bhadule kupandika matwajo mingi, umuwikaji bhobho.

KISWAHILI: HUYU HUKUTA YAMEISHA.

Msemo huo, ulianzia kwenye uchelewaji wa mtu aliyealikwa kufika kwenye maongezi. Alikuwepo mtu mmoja ambaye alialikwa kwenda kuongea na watu juu ya mwenendo wa kuishi vizuri. Mtu huyo, alichelewa kufika kwenye familia hiyo mpaga mwishowe yale maongezi yakaisha ndipo naye akafika. Ndiyo maana watu walimwambia kwamba, “huyu hukuta yameisha.”

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye huwa hashituki upesi akiambiwa neno, katika masha yake. Mtu huyo, huchelewa kila siku akiambiwa awahi sehemu fulani, atakuta wenzake wamemaliza hata kazi yoyote kwa sababu ya uvivu na kutojali kwake huko, katika maisha yake. Yeye hukosa chakula kila mwaka kwenye familia yake kwa sababu ya uchelewaji wake huo wa kufanya kazi zake, maishani mwake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule aliyechelewa kwenda kwenye maongezi mpaga akakuta wenzake wamemaliza, kwa sababu naye pia huchelewa kufika kule aendako mwishowe hushindwa hata kupata chakula katika maisha yake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “huyu hukuta yameisha.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwahi kwenda kuyatekeleza majukumu yao kwa kusaidiana na wenzao vizuri, ili waweze kupata maendeleo mengi, maishani mwao.

 ENGLISH: THIS IS THE ONE WHO ARRIVES WHEN EVERYTHING IS OVER.

This saying started from the delay of the person who was invited to give a talk on moral life. There was one person who was invited to go and talk to people about the conduct of living well. Such person was late in arriving at the family until the conversation ended then he also arrived. That is why people told him that, “this is the one who arrives when everything is over.”

This saying is compared to the person who does not easily respond when he is told a word, in his life. Such person becomes late every day when he is told to go to a certain place to the point of finding that his colleagues have finished any work because of his laziness and indifference in his life. He misses food every year in his family because of his delay in doing his work, in his life.

This person resembles the one who is late for a talk when he finds that his colleagues have finished, because he is also late to get to where he is going and in the end he fails to even get food in his life. That is why people tell him that, “this is the one who arrives when everything is over.”

This saying imparts in people an idea on going earlier to carry out their duties by helping each other well, so that they can get a lot of progress in their lives.

1084. DANGATA LIGULILA ULU WIPUJA.

Imbuki ya kahayile kenako, ihoyelile higulya ya lintego ilo ligapujaga ndimu. Ilintego linilo ligategaga ginhu ijo bhalijichola abhategi bhalyo ilo ligayoganyaga bho gulila ulu lyapuja ginhu. Ubhuyoganya bholyo bhunubho, bhugabhigwilijaga abhategi igiki bhapujaga. Hunagwene bhagayombaga giki, “dangata ligulila ulu wipuja.”

Akahayile kenako, kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agapandikaga mamihayo ga gujinjimaja, umuwikaji bhokwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo agakumukaga noyi umuchalo jakwe kunguno ya mamihayo genayo ayo agapandikaga, umuwikaji bhokwe. Uweyi agabhizaga na miganiko mingi noyi ayo gagansunduhajaga kunguno ya gwigwa bhalinhoyela bhuli kwene uko alibhitila, umukikalile kakwe.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikolaga ni lidangata ilo ligalilaga ulu lyapujaga ginhu, kunguno nuweyi agakumukaga noyi ulu opandikaga mamihayo genayo agagujinjimaja. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga giki, “dangata ligulila ulu wipuja.”

Akahayile kenako, kalanga bhanhu higulya ya gwilalanhana na mitego yoseyose iyagubhenheleja gwinga umukikalile akawiza, kugiki bhadule gujilela chiza ikaya jabho, umuwikaji bhobho.

KISWAHILI: MTEGO HULIA UNAPONASA.

Chanzo cha msemo huo huongelea juu ya mtego wa kunasia wanyama fulani. Mtego huo, ni kifaa kilichoandalia kwa lengo na kumnasa mnyama atakayeugusa ambayo hulia unaponasa kitu. Mlio huo huwajulisha wategaji kwamba wamenasa kitu kiasi cha kutosha kuwahi pale uliko mtego huo. Ndiyo maana wao husema kwamba, “mtego hulia unaponasa.”

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hukumbwa na maneno ya kushangaza, maishani mwake. Mtu huyo, hujulikana sana kwa watu waishio kwenye kijiji chake, kwa sababu ya kukumbwa na maneno hayo ya kushangaza, katika maisha yake. Yeye huishi kwa masikitiko katika familia yake kwa sababu ya kuwasikia watu wengi wakimuongelea yeye, maishani mwake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na ule mtego ambao hulia unaponasa kitu, kwa sababu naye hujulikana kwa watu wengi waishio kwenye kijiji chake, anapokumbwa na maneno hayo ya kushangaza. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “mtego hulia unaponasa.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa makini kwa kujilinda ili wasikumbwe na maneno ya kuwahalibia sifa katika utumishi wao, maishani mwao.

1083. BENA: IMBWA NDAVILA PASI YE NYIDZI.

KISWAHILI: MBWA ANAYEANGALIA CHINI NDIYE MWIZI.

Methali hiyo, huangalia maisha ya mbwa aliyekuwa mwizi. Mbwa huyo, alikuwa akiiba nyama na kula mara kwa mara bila ya wamiliki wake kufahamu kuwa ni yeye kwa sababu ya kujificha kwake kwa kuangalia chini. Mbwa huyo alikuwa akiangalia chini ili kunesha hali ya kuficha kosa la kuiba nyama hizo.

Wamiliki wake walifanya utafiki uliowezesha kumtamgua aliyekuwa akiiba nyama zao. Utafiti huo, ulimkamata mbwa huyo baada ya kumuona akiziiba nyama hizo. Ndiyo maana walisema kwamba, “mbwa anayeangalia chini ndiye mwizi.”

Methali hiyo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye huonekana kuwa ni mwema kwa nje lakini kwa ndani ni muovu, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, hutenda matendo yake kwa lengo la kujionesha kwa nje tu kuwa ni mwema kwa sababu ya kutaka kujificha ili uovu wake usijulikane kwa watu. Yeye hugundulika tabia yake hiyo mbaya baada ya kukaa naye, ndipo unafiti wake hujionesha wazi baada yeye kujisahau, katika maisha yake hayo.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule mbwa aliyekuwa akiiba nyama na kujificha kwa kuangalia chini, kwa sababu naye huonekana kwa nje kuwa ni mtu mwema kumbe kwa ndani ni muovu, katika maisha yake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “mbwa anayeangalia chini ndiye mwizi.”

Methali hiyo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuachana na tabia ya kujionesha kwa nje kuwa wema kwa kuacha kutenda maovu, na badala yake watende mema ili waweze kuishi kwa amani na wenzao, katika familia zao.

Mathayo 23:28 “Vivyo hivyo, ninyi nanyi, kwa nje mwaonekana na watu kuwa wenye haki, bali ndani mmejaa unafiki na maasi.”

Luka 6:44 “Kila mti hujulikana kwa matunda yake. Kwa maana watu hawachumi tini kwenye miiba wala zabibu kwenye michongoma.”

1samweli 16:7 “Lakini Bwana akamwambia Samweli usimtazame uso wake, wala urefu wa kimo chake, kwa maana mimi nimemkataa. Bwana haangalii kama wanadamu waangaliavyo, bali Bwana huutazama moyo.”

ENGLISH: A DOG THAT LOOKS DOWN IS THE THIEF.

The overhead proverb looks at the life of a dog that was a thief. Such dog used to steal meat and eat it frequently without its owners realizing that it was him because of his hiding by looking down. Such dog was looking down in order to hide the crime of stealing the meat.

Its owners made a research that enabled them to identify the one who was stealing their meat. Such research, arrested the dog after seeing him stealing the meat. That is why they said that, “a dog that looks down is the thief.”

This proverb is compared to the person who appears to be good on the outside but is evil on the inside, in his life. Such person does his actions with the aim of showing himself to be good on the outside because he wants to hide himself so that his evil will not be known by people. People discover his bad behavior after staying with him, then his selfishness shows itself clearly after he forgets himself, in his life.

This person is like the dog that was stealing meat and hiding by looking down, because he also looks like a good person on the outside but is evil on the inside, in his life. That is why people tell him that, “a dog that looks down is the thief.”

This proverb instills in people an idea of abandoning a habit of showing themselves to be good by stopping doing evil, and instead they should do well so that they can live in peace with their nobles, in their families.

Abhanikili bha mitugo jinijo bhagajilemeja uguja ng’wa aminzi, gitumo bhagitilaga ulu jalyaga mandege momu, kunguno ya gujilanhana jigale mhola. Hunagwene bhagiwilaga giki, “jilekagi jime bhukanza duhu.”

Umunhu ng’wunuyo agajilanhanaga ijikolo jakwe jinijo bhogujituula hasoga kunguno alina bhukalalwa bhutale ukusabho jakwe jinijo, umukikalile kakwe. Uweyi agapandikaga sabho ningi aha kaya yakwe kunguno ya gujilanhana chiza bhuli jene ijo agajipandikaga umubhutumami bhokwe bhunubho.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikolaga nabho bhagajilanhana ing’ombe jabho jukija ugucha, kunguno nuweyi agajilanhanaga isabho jakwe bho gujituula chiza, umukikakile kakwe. Hunagwene agabhawilaga abhanhu bhakwe giki, “jilekagi jime bhukanga duhu.”

Akahayile kenako, kalanga bhanhu higulya ya kudebha kujilanghana chiza isabho jabho bho gujidilila chiza ijo bhalijipandika umubhutumami bhobho, kugiki jidule gubhambilija ku kulikanza lilihu umuwikaji bhobho.

KISWAHILI: ZIACHENI ZIKAE BILA KUNYWA MAJI TU.

Chanzo cha msemo huo, chaongelea juu ya uachaji wa kunywesha mifugo maji. Kulikuwa na ng’ombe waliokula majani ya viazi ambayo huwapelekea kufa kama wakinywa maji. Wenye ng’ombe hao waliwazuia kunywa maji hayo, kama wafanyavyo kwa wale waliokula mahindi makavu, kwa sababu ya kuwalinda ili wasife. Ndiyo maana wao waliambiana kwamba, “ziacheni zikae bila kunywa maji tu.”

Msemo huo hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule afahamuye kuvitunza vizuri vitu vyake, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, huviweka vitu vyake hivyo katika matunzo ya hali ya juu kwa sababu ya moyo wake huo wa kuzijali vizuri mali zake hizo, katika maisha yake. Yeye hupata mali nyingi sana kwenye familia yake kwa sababu ya utunzaji wake wa kila mali anayoipata, katika utekelezaji wa majukumu yake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na wamiliki wa ng’ombe waliowatunza mpaka wakabaki salama, kwa sababu naye huzitunza vizuri mali anazozipata katika kazi zake, maishani mwake. Ndiyo maana huwaambia watu wake kwamba, “ziacheni zikae bila kunywa maji tu.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuelewa kuzitunza vizuri mali wanazozipata katika utekelezaji wa majukumu yao, ili ziweze kuwasaidia kwa kipindi kirefu, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: YOU LET THEM STAY WITHOUT DRINKING WATER.

This saying is about preventing livestock from drinking water. There were cows that ate potato leaves which could lead to death if they could drink water. The owners of them prevented them from drinking the water, as they do for those who ate dry corn, because of protecting them from dying. That is why they said to each other, “you let them stay without drinking water.”

This saying is compared to the person who knows how to take good care of his things, in his life. This person keeps his things in high quality care because of his inspired heart enough to take good care of his possessions, in his life. He gets a lot of wealth in his family because of his good caring of every property he gets, in fulfilling his duties.

This person is similar to the owners of cows who took care of them until they remained safe, because he also takes care of his things in life. That is why he tells people that, “you let them stay without drinking water.”

This saying instills in people a clue on understanding ways of taking good care of the assets which they get in fulfilling their duties, so that they can help them for a long time, in their lives.

Uweyi wikalaga usingijaga umumabhonde gakwe genayo ayo gali mumongo kunguno ya gugalingulila na gutumama milimo moyi. Hunagwene abhanhu bhang’witanaga giki, “magulu ganunha mongo.”

Akahayile kenako, kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agadililaga milimo yakwe bho guyitumama chiza mpaga yang’wenhela solobho nhale, umuwikaji bhokwe bhunubho. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agamishaga diyu ogayitumama imilimo yakwe chiza bhuli lushigu, kunguno ya bhukamu bho gutumama milimo yakwe yiniyo, umuwikaji bhokwe. Uweyi agapandikaga solobho nhale noyi umumilimo yakwe yiniyo, kunguno ya bhudiliji bhokwe bhunubho, umukikalile kakwe.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikolaga nuyo odililaga mabhonde gakwe bho gwikala agugalimilaga umumongo chiniko, kunguno nuweyi agadililaga milimo yakwe bho gutumama milimo chiza mpaga opandika solobho ya gubhiza na sabho ninghi umubhutumami bhokwe. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’witanaga giki, “magulu ganunha mongo.”

Akahayile kenako kalanga bhanhu higulya ya guyidilila milimo yabho bho guyitumama mpaga bhayimala chiza, kugiki bhadule gupandika solobho ya kubhiza na jikolo ja gubhambilija chiza umuwikaji bhobho.

Chanzo cha msemo huo, huongelea juu ya mtu aliyekuwa akiishi kwenye mto kila wakati katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, alikuwa na bustani nyingi za miwa, ndizi, maembe, machungwa na matunda mengine mengi. Yeye alikuwa akiyatembelea mashamba yake hayo ya bustani yaliyokuwa mtoni kwa ajili ya kuyakagua na kuyatunza vizuri, maishani mwake. Ndiyo maana watu walimuita jila la “miguu imenuka mto.”      

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye huzijali kazi zake kwa kuzitunza vizuri mpaka zinamletea faida kubwa maishani mwake. Mtu huyo, huamuka asubuhi na kwenda kufanya kazi vizuri kila siku kwa sababu ya bidii yake hiyo ya kutekeleza kazi zake hizo. Yeye hupata faida kubwa kutoka kwenye kazi zake hizo kwa sababu ya umakini wake huo wa kuzitekeleza vizuri, katika maisha yake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule aliyezijali bustani zake kwa kuzitunza vizuri, mpaga zikampatia faida kubwa, kwa sababu naye huzijali kazi zake kwa kuzitunza, mpaka zinamletea faida kubwa, katika maisha yake. Ndiyo maana watu humuita jina la “miguu imenuka mto.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuzijali kazi zao kwa kuzitekeleza vizuri mpaka mwisho, ili waweze kupata mafanikio makubwa ya kuwasaidia vizuri, katika maisha yao.

ENGLISH: THE FEET HAVE A SMELL OF A RIVER.

The overhead saying talks about a person who lived on the river all the time in his life. This man had many gardens of sugarcane, bananas, mangoes, oranges and other fruits. He used to visit his gardens that were on the river enough to inspect and take good care of them, during his life. That is why people called him the name of “the feet have a smell of a river.”

This saying is compared to the person who takes care about his works by visiting them until they bring him great benefits in his life. This person wakes up in the morning and goes to work well every day because of his diligence in carrying out his works. He gets a lot of profit from his works because of his focus on fulfilling them well in his life.

This person is similar to the one who took care of his gardens by visiting them, until they gave him a lot of profit, because he also takes care of his works by inspecting them, until they bring him a lot of profit, in his life. That is why people call him “the feet have a smell of a river.”

This saying teaches people about taking care of their works by carrying them out well until the end, so that they can get great success can help them well, in their lives.
