Oliyohi munhu uyo aliobhucha iwe itale ukumabhega gakwe alichalile kukaya yakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo agalibhucha iliwe linilo mpaga wambilijiwa na munhu nhebhe uyo agang’wikija unigo gunuyo ukumabhega gakwe. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayomba giki, “wikijiwa iwe.”

Akahayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agatumamaga milimo midamu bho wiyumilija bhutale, umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, alina nguzu ijo agajitumilaga bho gutumama milimo midito mpaga opandika majiliwa mingi kunguno ya wiyumilija bhokwe bhunubho, umuwikaji bhokwe. Alikuwepo mtu aliyebeba jiwe kubwa kwenye mabega yake akilipeleka nyumbani kwake. Mtu huyo alilibeba kwa uvumilivu jiwe hilo mpaka akasaidiwa na mtu fulani aliyemshushia mzigo huo kutoka kwenye mabega yake. Ndiyo maana watu walisema kwamba, “ameshushiwa jiwe.”

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hufanya kazi ngumu kwa uvumilivu mkubwa, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, ana nguvu anazozitumia katika kufanya kazi hizo nzito mpaka anapata mazao mengi ya chakula kwa sababu ya uvumilivu wake huo, maishani mwake. Yeye huwafundisha watu wake kufanya kazi hizo ngumu mpaka wanaweza kumsaidia kupata mali nyingi kwenye familia yake, katika maisha yake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule aliyebeba jiwe kubwa mabegani mwake kwa uvumilivu mpaka akasaidiwa na mwenzake, kwa sababu naye pia hufanya kazi nzito kwa kuwafundisha watu wake mpaka wanaweza kumsaidia kutua mzigo mzito katika familia yake. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, “ameshushiwa jiwe.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuvumilia kufanya kazi zao kwa bidii kubwa mpaka waweze kupata mali za kutosha kuwasidia vizuri katika maishani yao yote.

ENGLISH: HE HAS BEEN STONED.

There was a man who carried a big stone on his shoulders to his home. This man patiently carried it until he was helped by someone who lowered the burden from his shoulders. That is why people said that, “he has been stoned.”

This saying is equaled to a person who works hard with great patience, in his life. That person has strength of using in doing those heavy tasks until he gets a lot of food crops because of his patience in his life. He teaches his people in doing hard works until they can help him in getting more wealth for his family, in his life.

This person is similar to the one who carried a big stone on his shoulders with patience until he was helped by his colleague, because he also does heavy works by teaching his people until they can help him to land heavy burdens in his family. That is why people say that, “he has been stoned.”

This saying teaches people to persevere in doing their works with great effort until they get enough wealth for supporting them well throughout their lives.

Akahayile kenako, kagaleganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo alina na bhudula bho gutumama nimo ndamu umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agatumamaga milimo midamu bho gutumila nguzu ningi na wiyumilija bhutale kunguno ya bhukamu bhokwe bhunubho. Uweyi agapandikaga sabho ningi aka hakaya yakwe yiniyo kunguno ya wiyumilija bhokwe bhunubho, umubhutumami bho milimo yakwe.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikolaga nuyo wiganikagaga giki umili gokwe guli ndamu guti iwe, kunguno nuweyi agatumamaga milimo yakwe bho nguzu ningi na wiyumilija bhutale umuwikaji bhokwe. Hunagwene agayombaga giki, “nalingala iwe.”

Akahayile kenako, kalanga bhanhu higulya ya gwigulambija gutumama milimo yabho bho nguzu ninyi na wiyumilija bhutale, kugiki bhadule gupandika matwajo mingi, umukaya jabho.

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye ana uwezo kwa kufanya kazi ngumu katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, hufanya kazi ngumu kwa kutumia nguvu nyingi na uvumilivu mkubwa kwa sababu ya bidii yake hiyo. Yeye hupata mali nyingi kwenye familia yake hiyo kwa sababu ya uvumilifu wake huo wa kufanya kazi, maishani mwake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule aliyeufikiria mwili wake kuwa ni mgumu kama jiwe, kwa sababu naye hufanya kazi zake kwa nguvu nyingi na kwa uvumilivu mkubwa, maishani mwake. Ndiyo maana yeye husema kwamba, “mimi jiwe.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kujibidisha kufanya kazi zao kwa nguvu na uvumilivu mkubwa, ili waweze kupata mafanikio mengi, katika familia zao.

This saying teaches people about forcing themselves to do their daily works with strength and great patience, so that they can get a lot of success, in their families.

Imbuki ya ulusumo lunulo iholelile bhubhinzi bho huha bho ng’wa munhu nhebhe. Ulihoyi munhu uyo agaja gujubhinza gagi mungunda ugisanga obhinzaga huha ojilekaga igagi. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agasunduhala noyi ukikalile kakwe. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayomba gika, “agasola huha uyileka igagi.”

Ulusumo lunulo, lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo otola nkima, nulu otolwa na ngosha uyo alina nhungwa ja bhubhi, umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, ocholaga bhutoji aliyo lulu aha onpandika nkima, nulu ngosha ubhiza alina nhungwa jabhubhi ijo jigayunkoya noyi umukikalile kunguno ya miito agabhubhi genayo. Uweyi agapandika makoye mingi noyi aha kaya yakwe yiniyo kunguno ya gwitola na munhu o nhungwa ja bhubhi umuwikaji bhokwe. Ulusumo lunulo, lolanga bhanhu higulya ya gubhiza na witegeleja ulu bhalichola bhutoji, nulu ginhu ijo jilijawiza, kugiki bhadule kupandika ng’witoji uyo alina nhungwa ja wiza, nulu ginhu ijo jijawiza, umubhuchoji bhobho.

Alikuwepo mtu aliyeenda shambani kukata bua la mtama lenye utamu akajikuta amekata lile lisilo na utamu. Mtu huyo, alihuzunika sana katika maisha yake. Ndio maana watu walisema kwamba, “alikuchua bua la mtama lisilo na utamu akaacha lenye utamu.”

Methali hiyo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule aliyepata mwenzie wa ndoa mwenye tabia mbaya, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, alikuwa akitafuta mwenzie wa kuishi naye kwenye maisha hayo ya ndoa, achamchagua mwenye tabia mbaya ambaye alimsumbua sana, kwa sababu ya matendo yake hayo mabaya. Yeye alipata matatizo mengi sana kwenye ndoa yake, kwa sababu ya kuchagua bua, katika utafutaji wake. Kuchukua bua lisilo na utamu ni kuoa au kuolewa na mtu mwenye tabia mbaya.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule aliyekata bua la mtama lisilo na utamu, kwa sababu naye alipata mke/mume mwenye tabia mbaya, akaamuacha yule aliye na tabia njema, katika utafutaji wake huo. Ndiyo maana watu walisema kwamba, “alikuchua bua la mtama lisilo na utamu akaacha lenye utamu.”

Methali hiyo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa makini wanapotafuta wachumba wa ndoa, au kitu kilicho kizuri, ili waweze kupata wachumba wenye tabia njema, au kitu kilicho kizuri, bila kukosea, katika utafutaji wao huo.

The origin of this proverb talks about someone who cut of a stalk of millet that is not sweet instead of a sweet one. There was a man who went to the field to cut a stalk of sweet millet and found himself cutting an unsweetened one. Such man became very sad in his life. That is why people said that, “he plucked the stalk of millet that was not sweet and left the sweet one.”

This proverb is paralleled to a person who found a spouse who had wicked behavior in his life. Such person was looking for a partner to live with in that married life. Unfortunately he chose someone who has evil character which bothered him a lot in life. He got a lot of problems in his marriage, because of choosing shoots in his search. To take a stalk that is not sweet means marrying or being married to a person who has a wicked character.

This person is similar to the one who cut the stalk of millet that is not sweet, because he also found a wife/husband of evil behavior, and left the one that has good behavior in his search. That is why people said that, “he plucked the stalk of millet that was not sweet and left the sweet one.”

This proverb imparts in people an idea of being careful when looking for marriage partners, or something good, so that they can find good-matured partners, or something good, without making a mistake, in their search.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agalinha mpaga ushiga ukuginhu ijawiza jinijo umugati ya numba yiniyo. Giko lulu, uweyi agaja kuwiza kunguno jilinduhu ijagulula koyi. Hunagwene abhanhu bhaganyomba giki, “ung’wene wingila gukano.”

Methali hiyo, hufundisha watu juu ya kujibidisha kufanya kazi zao vizuri na kwa uvumilivu mkubwa mpaka wapate mali nyingi za kutoka kutumia katika familia zao, ili waweze kuziendeleza vizuri familia zao hizo, maishani mwao.

Uweyi wiganikaga giki adalacha na gujikwa umugati ya sii iyo ayipandaga yiniyo, kunguno ya lwiguto lokwe lunulo. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wila giki, “mpandage aliyo agugulya.”

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agajisanyaga isabho jakwe bho gwita mihayo iyo atogilwe weyi umusii ng’wenumu, kunguno ya bhudoshi bho gwiganika giki isabho jigung’wingija pye amakoye mpaka nu lufu, umuwikaji bhokwe, bhunubho. Uweyi agadumaga uguilela chiza ikaya yakwe kunguno ya gwisanya sabho jakwe bho gwita mihayo iyo atogilwe weyi, umukikalile kakwe kenako.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikolaga nuyo agiguta jiliwa uipanda isii bho nguzu, kunguno nuweyi agajisanyaga isabho jakwe bho gwita mihayo iyo atogilwe weyi umusii guti giki adalacha, umuwikaji bhokwe. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga giki, “mpandage aliyo agugulya.”

Alikuwepo mtu aliyekuwa akiishi kwenye kijiji fulani. Mtu huyo, alikuwa akiikanyaga ardhi kwa nguvu sana kwa sababu ya kula chakula mpaka akashiba sana. Yeye alikuwa akifikiri kwamba hatakufa na kuzikwa ndani ya ardhi hiyo aliyokuwa akiikanyaga kwa sababu ya kushiba kwake chakula alichokula. Ndiyo maana watu walimwambia kwamba, “mkanyage lakini atakula.”

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu tajiri ambaye hufikiria kwamba, hatakufa, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, huutegemea utajiri wa wali zake katika kutatua matatizo yake yote kwa kufanya atakalo yeye kwa sababu ya majivuno ya kuufikiria utajiri wake kwamba utamwondolea matatizo yote hata kumzuia kufa, maishani mwake. Yeye hushindwa kuilea vyema familia yake kwa sababu ya kutegemea mali zake hizo kwa kuzifikiria kama mtatuzi wa matatizo yake yote, katika maisha yake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule aliyeshiba chakula mpaka akaanza kuikanyaga ardhi kwa mguvu, kwa sababu naye huutegemea utajiri wa mali zake mpaka anafanya anachotaka hapa duniani kama kwamba, hatakufa, maishani mwake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “mkanyage lakini atakula.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kutenda matendo mema hapa duniani kabla ya kufika mwisho wao, kwa sababu kila mmoja ana mwisho wake, ili waweze kuzilea vyema familia zao, wakati wa uhai wao wote.

ENGLISH: TREAD IT BUT IT WILL EAT YOU.

There was a man who lived in a certain village. Such man was treading the ground very hard because of eating food until he was very full. He was thinking that he will not die and be buried in the ground which he was treading. That is why people told him that, “Tread it but it will eat you.”

This saying is equaled to a rich man who thinks that he will not die in his life. Such person depends on the wealth of his parents in solving all his problems by doing what he wants because of thinking that his wealth will remove all problems and even prevent him from dying in his life. He fails to raise his family well because of relying on his possessions by thinking of them as the solution to all his problems, in his life.

This person resembles the one who ate food until he began to tread the ground with strength, because he also depends on the wealth of his possessions until he does what he wants in this world as if he will not die. That is why people tell him that, “Tread it but it will eat you.”

This saying imparts in people an idea about doing good deeds on this world before reaching their end, because everyone has his/her end, so that they can raise their families well, during their whole lives.
