Ugwatya guli nti go bhugota ubho bhugitanagwa Ng’watya. Ubhugota bhunubho bhulibhukali noyi ulu munhu ubhubeha agwityamula noyi kunguno ya bhukali bhogo bhunubho. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wila umunhu ng’wunuyo giki, “ogwitula ung’watya.”

Akahayile kenako kagalengajiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agikoloshaga bhanhu bhantula mpaga bhaminya, umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo agikoloshaga bhanhu bhakali bho gubhibhengwa kunguno ya nhinda jakwe jinijo umukikalile kakwe. Uweyi agatulagwa mpaga uminyiwa na bhanhu abhakali bhenabho kunguno ya nhinda jakwe ija gubhitila libhengwe abhanhu bhenabho, umukikalile kakwe.

KISWAHILI: AMEPAMBANA NA NG’WATYA.

Ng’watya ni mti wa dawa kali inayoitwa Ng’watya. Dawa hiyo ni kali sana kiasi kwamba mtu akiivuta atapiga chafya kwa sababu ya ukali wake huo. Ndiyo maana watu humuambia mtu huyo aliyeuvuta kwamba, “Amepambana na Ng’watya.”

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye huwachokoza watu ambao humzidi nguvu mpaka kufikia hatua ya kumuumiza, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo huwachokoza watu wenye nguvu kuliko yeye ambao huwadharau kwa sababu ya kiburi chake hicho. Yeye hupigwa mpaka anaumizwa na watu hao wenye nguvu kupita yeye, kwa sababu ya kiburi chake hicho cha kuwadharau watu, katika maisha yake.

Mtu huyo hufanana na yule aliyevuta dawa kali ya ng’watya akapiga chafya, kwa sababu naye huwacholokoza watu ambao humzidi nguvu mpaka wanamuumiza, maishani mwake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “amepambana na Ng’watya.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuachana na kiburi cha kuchokoza hovyo watu wao, ili waweze kuishi kwa furaha kubwa maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: HE HAS FOUGHT WITH “NG’WATYA.” (SUKUMA TRADITIONAL NAME OF A MADICINAL TREE).

Ng’watya is a Sukuma name which is given to a strong medicinal tree. Such medicine is so strong that if someone inhales it, will sneeze because of its severity. That is why people tell the person who inhales it that, “He has fought with Ng’watya.”

This saying is matched to a person who provokes people who overpower him to the point of hurting him, in his life. Such person provokes stronger people than him by looking down on them because of his egotism. He is beaten until he is hurt by those people who are stronger than him, because of his arrogance of despising people in his life.

This person resembles the one who inhaled a strong medicinal tree until he sneezed, because he also irritates people who defeat him to the point of hurting him in his life. That is why people tell him that, “he has fought with Ng’watya.”

This saying imparts in people an idea of ending pride of recklessly provoking their people, so that they can happily live in their lives.

KISWAHILI: WATAFUTAJI WA PEKUA PEKUA.

Watu hao hufanana na hao wapekuzi kwa sababu nao huwafundisha watu wao juu ya kujibidisha kufanya kazi zao vizuri maishani mwao. Ndiyo maana watu huwaita kwamba ni “watatutaji wa pekua pekua.”

Methali hiyo, hufundisha watu juu ya kujibidisha kufanya kazi zao kwa bidii kubwa, ili waweze kupata mafanikio mengi maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: CANVASSERS OF SEARCHERS

Canvassers are chicken that search for food by pecking on the ground. Foragers are chicken scavengers because of that kind of constant seeking lifestyle of their needs. That is why people call them “canvassers of searchers.”

This proverb is equaled to married people who teach their children on how to find basic needs by themselves in their lives. Those married people teach their children on how to wake up in the morning and do their jobs well because of their good responsiveness enough to work well. They nurture their children by giving them necessary knowledge for working well because of their effort to nicely do their works every time in their lives.

These people are similar to the constant food searching of chicken  because they also teach their people on how to work hard in doing their jobs. That is why people call them “canvassers of searchers.”

This proverb teaches people on how to force themselves in doing their works with great effort, so that they can acquire a lot of success in their lives.

Yeye huwagombanisha watu waliopo kwenye familia yake kwa sababu ya kuongea maneno ya uongo katika maongezi yake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule aliyekuwa akiongea maneno yasiyokuwa na ukweli, kwa sababu naye huongea maneno ya uongo katika maongezi yake. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, “haya ni maneno ya bure.”

This saying is paralleled to a person who speaks made-up words in his life. Such person says deceitful words in his discourse because of his lies in life. He quarrels people who stay in his family because of saying made-up words in his communication.

This person resembles the one who used to speak words that had no truth in them, because he also speaks deceitful words in his life. That is why people say that, “these are empty words.”

This saying imparts in people a clue of being true by speaking the truth in their lives, so that they can nurture their families well in their lives.

Imbuki ya kahayile kenako ihoyelile higulya ya mbogo. Imbogo yiniyo ili ndimu ya mumapolu iyo iliya makanji noyi kunguno ya bhukali bhoyo na Makala gayo umukikalile kayo. Iyoyi ilijidamu ugwikala mubhanhu kunguno ya bhukali bhoyo bhunubho umuwikaji bhobho. Hunagwene ulu bhanhu bhuibhona ha kaya ya ng’wa munhu bhagabhujaga umunhu ng’wunuyo giki, “wina mbogo bhuli ubhebhe?”

Akahayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kuli nkima uyo atolilwe na ngosha nkali umukikalile kakwe. Unkima ng’wunuyo, agikalaga ukalihilwa sagala nu nkosha ng’wunuyo, kunguno ya bhukali bho sagala ubho alinabho ungosha ng’wunuyo. Uweyi akikalaga asunduhalile noyi aha kaya yakwe yiniyo kunguno ya bhukali bho ngosha ng’wunuyo, umuwikaji bhobho.

Ungosha ng’wunuyo, agikolaga ni mbogo iyo ili ndimu nhali, kunguno nuweyi agikalaga umkalihila sagala unkima okwe ng’wunuyo, umuwikaji bhobho. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagamujaga unkima ng’wunuyo giki, “wina mbogo bhuli ubhebhe?”

Mwanamume huyo, hufanana na yule Nyati ambaye ni mnyama mkali, kwa sababu naye humkaripia hovyo mke wake, maishani mwake. Ndiyo maana watu humuuliza yule mke wake kwamba, “kwa nini una Nyati wewe?”

Msemo huo hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha ukali wa kuwakaripia wenzao hovyo maishani mwao, ili waweze kuishi kwa amani na kuzilea vyema familia zao, katika maisha yao.

This saying is related to a married woman who has a violent man in her life. This man scolds his wife carelessly because of his careless severity in his life. He makes his wife uncomfortable in his family because of his reckless severity in his life.

This man is similar to the violent Buffalo, because he also scolds his wife carelessly in his life. That is why people ask his wife that “Why do you have a Buffalo?”

This saying teaches people about stopping harshness of reprimanding their wives carelessly in their lives, so that they can live in peace enough to nurture well their families.

Yeye hufanikiwa kuilea vizuri familia yake kwa kuwatunza na kuwakuza watu wake katika malezi mema kwa sababu ya kulelewa vizuri na wazazi wake hao, maishani mwake.

Msichana huyo hufanana na zile kunde zilizotunzwa vizuri mpaga zikafikia hatua ya kuwa chakula kizuri, kwa sababu naye amelelewa vizuri mpaka akafahamu kuwatunza watu wake kwa kuwalea vizuri, maishani mwake. Ndiyo maana huwaambia watu kwamba, “mama nitunzie kunde.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwalea watoto wao kwa kuwapatia malezi mema ya kuwawezesha kuishi vizuri na watu ili waweze kuzilea vizuri familia zao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: MOTHER, TAKE CARE OF THE BEANS FOR ME.

This saying looks at the beans. These beans are foods which are mixed in dough to make it nice. When they are planted, they sprout and crawl, and their leaves become delicious vegetable for people to eat. People take good care of them when they mature and ripen because of their sweetness. That is why people tell each other that, “mother, take care of the beans for me.”

This saying is equated to a girl who was raised well by her parents, in her life. Such girl grows up with a good understanding of responsibilities of working and living well with people because of good upbringing in which she was brought up by her parents. She manages to raise her family well by taking care of and nurturing her people in a good upbringing because of being well raised by her parents in life.

This girl resembles those were well-cared-for beans until they reach the point of being good food, because she has also been well-raised until she learned to take care of her people by raising them well in her life. That is why they tell people that, “mother, take care of the beans for me.”

This saying teaches people about nurturing their children by providing them with good education enough to enable them live well with people so that they can raise their families well, in their lives.
