KISWAHILI: UTAIKUMBUKA YA NYUMA AU YA VICHAKANI.

Chanzo cha methali hiyo chaangalia mtu aliyekuwa akienda vichakani mara nyingi, maishani mwake. Mtu huyo, alikuwa akijificha vichakani huko kwa sababu alifanya kitu fulani ambacho hakutaka wenzake wakifahamu. Yeye aliendelea kufanya hivyo mpaga akamaliza nguvu za kufanya kazi zake bila ya kupata mtu wa kumsaidia katika siku za mbeleni. Ndiyo maana watu walimwambia kwamba, “utaikumbuka ya nyuma au ya vichakani.”

Methali hiyo hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye ana mwenendo wa kutenda maovu, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, hutenda maovu ambayo ni pamoja na uzinzi, uasherati, kudhurura hivyo mpaka anafikia hali ya kutokuwa na makao wala watoto kwa sababu ya tabia yake hiyo ya kutenda maovu, maishani mwake. Yeye hukosa watu wa kumsaidia katika maisha yake ya uzeeni mwake, kwa sababu ya kutumia muda wake kwa kutenda maovu hayo, katika maisha yake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule aliyetenda matendo yake kwa kujificha vichakani mpaka akafikie umri wa uzeeni bila ya kupata mtu wa kumsaidia, kwa sababu naye hutenda maovu mpaka anafikia umri huo wa uzeeni bila ya kupata mtoto au watu wa kumsaidia, maishani mwake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “utaikumbuka ya nyuma au ya vichakani.”

Methali hiyo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na tabia ya kutenda mema yatakayowasaidia kuwa na familia zenye maadili mema, ili waweze kupata watoto au watu wa kuwasaidia katika siku zao za mbeleni, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: YOU WILL REMEMBER THOSE OF THE BACK OR BUSHES.

The origin of this proverb refers to a person who used to go to the bushes several times in his life. He hid in those bushes because of doing something which he did not want his companions to recognize. He carried on doing so until he exhausted his strength of working without getting anyone who can support him in the future. That is why people told him that, “you will remember those of the back or bushes.”

This proverb is equaled to a man who has a tendency of committing wicked actions in his life. This person commits immoral deeds such as adultery, fornication, and causing harm to others until he reaches a state of having no home or children because of his habit of committing those evil actions in his life. He lacks people who can support him in his old age, because of spending his time by committing those wicked actions in his life.

This person resembles the one who did his actions by hiding in the bushes until he reached old age without having anyone who can support him, because he also does wicked actions until he reaches that old age without having a child or people to aid him in his life. That is why people say to him that, “You will remember those of the back or bushes.”

This proverb teaches people about having a decent custom that will aid them in getting families which have decent morals, so that they can find children or people who can aid them in their future days in lives.

KISWAHILI: ZIMELIWA NA WATU WASIO NA MAKAO.

Methali hiyo huongelea watu wasio na makao ambao ni wale wanaoishi katika sehemu isiyojulikana vizuri. Watu hao walichukua pesa za mtu aliyewaachia bila ya kuwafanyia utafiti mzuri kwa sababu ya kukosa umakini wa kumsaidia kuwafahamu vizuri, maishani mwake.

Mtu huyo, alianza kuwatafuta watu wale waliozichukua pesa zake kwa kuwauliza watu kama wamewaona. Ndiyo maana wale watu walimwambia kwamba, pesa zake hizo “zimeliwa na watu wasio na makao.”

Methali hiyo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye huwapatia watu hovyo mali zake bila ya kuwafanyia utafiti wa kumsaidia kuwafahamu vizuri, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, huwaachia watu hovyo mali zake hizo ambao hupotea nazo kwa sababu ya kukosa umakini wa kuwafanyia utafiti wa kuwafahamu vizuri, maishani mwake. Yeye huzipoteza hovyo mali za kwenye familia yake hiyo kwa sababu ya kuwaachia watu hao asiyowafahamu vizuri, katika maisha yake hayo.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule aliyewaachia pesa zake watu wasio na makao ambao walipotea nazo, kwa sababu naye huwapatia watu hovyo mali zake mpaka wanapotea nazo, maishani mwake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba mali zake hizo “zimeliwa na watu wasio na makao.”

Methali hiyo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na umakini wa kuacha kuwaachia mali zao watu wasio wafahamu vizuri, ili waweze kuzitunza vizuri mali zao hizo, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: THEY HAVE BEEN EATEN BY HOMELESS PEOPLE.

This proverb refers to homeless individuals who live in an unknown place. These persons took money of a person who left it carelessly. He left such money without doing proper research because of a lack of responsiveness enough to aid him get to know what kind of people who were there at that time.

This person began to look for people who took his money by asking people if they had seen them. That is why the people told him about his money that “they have been eaten by homeless people.”

This proverb is related to a person who gives his wealth to individuals without doing any research that can support him enough to recognize them well in his life. This person gives his wealth to people without doing any research which can support him enough to know them well in his life. He loses his family’s wealth because of leaving it to people whom he does not know well in his life.

This person is like the one who left his money to the homeless ones who lost it, because he also gives his wealth to people carelessly until they lose it in his life. That is why people say to him about his wealth that, “they have been eaten by homeless people.”

This proverb imparts in people an idea of being so cautious enough to not leave their wealth to people whom they do not know well, so that they can take upright carefulness of their wealth in their lives.

Akahayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kuli ntongeji obhanhu bha muchalo uyo agabhatongelaga chiza abhanhu bhakwe, umuwikaji bhokwe. Untongeji ng’wunuyo, alina bhutogwa bho gubhatongela chiza abhanhu mpaka bhang’wigwa chiza, kunguno ya bhutungilija bhokwe bhunubho, umuwikaji bhokwe. Uweyi agabhambilijaga abhanhu bha muchalo jakwe jinijo mpaka bhagamala amakoye gabho, kunguno ya bhutungilija chokwe bhunubho, umukikalile kakwe kenako.

Untongeji ng’wunuyo agikolaga nuyo agabhayangula abhanhu abho bhalibhiduma mpaga nowe bhidebha chiza, kunguno nuweyi agabhatongelaga chiza abhanhu mkaga bhang’wigwa, umuchalo jakwe jinijo. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga giki, “ohumuja.”

Akahayile kenako kalanga bhanhu higulya ya gubhiza na bhutungilija bho gubhatongela chiza abhanhu bhabho, kugiki bhadule gwikala bho mholele na bhuyegi bhutale umuchalo jabho.

Msemo huo hulinganishwa kwa kiongozi wa kijiji ambaye huwaongoza vizuri watu wake, katika maisha yake. Kiongozi huyo, ana upendo wa kuwaongoza vizuri watu wake mpaka wanamsikiliza vizuri, kwa sababu ya uaminifu wake huo, maishani mwake. Yeye huwasaidia watu kwenye kijiji chake hicho mpaka anayamaliza matatizo yao kwa sababu ya uaminifu wake huo, katika maisha yake hayo.

Kiongozi huyo, hufanana na yule aliyewapatanisha watu waliokuwa wamekosana mpaka mwishowe wakaelewana vizuri, kwa sababu naye huwaongoza vizuri watu wake mpaka wanasikilizana, maishani mwake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “amenyamazisha.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na uaminifu wa kuwaongoza vizuri watu wao, ili waweze kuishi kwa amani na furaha kubwa, katika kijiji chao.

ENGLISH: HE HAS SILENCED THEM.

There were people in the same family who had been fighting for a long time. They were angry with each other because of fighting over land.

One day, a man was found who reconciled them well until they became silent because of that man’s honesty in doing justice. That is why when people saw that, they said, “He has silenced them.”

This saying is paralleled to a village leader who leads his people well in his life. This leader has an interest of leading his people well until they listen to him well because of that honesty in his life. He supports people who live in his village until he solves their glitches because of that honesty in his life.

This leader resembles the one who reconciled the people who had been fighting until they finally understood each other well, because he also leads his people well until they listen to each other in his life. That is why people say to him, “he has silenced them.”

This saying teaches people about being truthful enough to lead their people well, so that they can live in peace and great happiness in their village.

Uweyi agagayiyagwa isabho ja gung’wambilija aha kaya yakwe kunguno ya kujilekanija sagala mpaga nose jajimila ijikolo jakwe jinijo, umukikalile kakwe kenako.

Yeye huishiwa mali katika familia yake hiyo kwa sababu ya kuzitelekeza hovyo mali zake hizo mpaka mwishowe zinapotea, katika maisha yake hayo.

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na umakini wa kuvitunza vizuri  vitu vyao, ili viweze kuwasaidia vizuri katika familia zao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: IT IS BEING DRAGGED BY A HYENA.

This proverb talks about a shepherd who forgot himself until finally his sheep was taken by a hyena. The shepherd was herding sheep, goats, and cattle. His sheep was taken by a hyena without him knowing because of his forgetfulness until people saw the hyenas dragging it. That is why those people said that “It is being dragged by a hyena.”

This proverb is matched to a person who does not take decent care of his possessions in his life. This person neglects his belongings until they are eventually lost, because of not taking respectable precaution of his belongings in his life. He runs out of wealth in his family because of neglecting his belongings until they are eventually lost in his life.

This person is like the shepherd who forgot himself until his sheep was taken by a hyena, because he also neglects his belongings until they are eventually lost in his life. That is why people who see his possessions disappearing like that tell him that, “it is being dragged by a hyena.”

Ing’ombe yiniyo yokajaga mabhele mujisab’o kunguno ya wingi wogo bhunubho. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagiiyinika ing’ombe yiniyo giki, “ng’wiza ojisab’o.”

Akahayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kuli nsabhi uyo agajitumamilaga isabho jakwe bho gubhambilija bhanhu, umukikalile kakwe. Unsabhi ng’wunuyo, agikolaga ni ng’ombe iyo yabhisulaga mabhele mingi mpaga bhagasegesa abhanhu, kunguno nuweyi agajitumilaga isabho jakwe bho gubhambilija bhanhu mpaga bhagamala wangu amakoye gabho, umuwikaji bhokwe bhunubho. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’witanaga giki, “ng’wiza ojisab’o.”

Akahayile kenako kalanga bhanhu higulya ya gubhiza na bhutogwa na wizanholo bho gujitumamila isabho jabho bho gubhambilija abhichabho abho bhali na makoye kugiki bhadule gugamala wangu amakoye genayo, umuwikaji bhobho bhunubho.

Ng’ombe huyo, alikuwa akitoa maziwa yaliyojaza kibuyu kwa sababu ya wingi ya wazima yake hayo. Ndiyo maana watu walimuita jina la “mzuri mwenye kibuyu.”

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa tajiri yule ambaye huzitumia mali zake kwa kuwasaidia watu, katika maisha yake hayo. Tajiri huyo, huzitumia mali zake kwa kuwasaidia watu wanaokumbwa na matatizo mbalimbali ili waweze kuyamaliza haraka, kwa sababu ya ukarimu na upendo wake huo, maishani mwake. Yeye huleta furaha kubwa kwa watu wengi anaowasaidia mpaka wanayamaliza haraka matatizo yao kwa sababu ya upendo na ukarimu wake huo, katika maisha yake.

Tajiri huyo, hufanana na yule ng’ombe aliyekuwa akitoa maziwa mengi mpaka watu wakawa wanayachekecha ili kupata siaji na mafuta, kwa sababu naye huzitumia mali zake kwa kuwasaidia watu wenye matatizo mpaka wanayamaliza haraka matatizo hayo, maishani mwake. Ndiyo maana watu humuita jina la “mzuri mwenye kibuyu.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na upendo na ukarimu wa kuzitumia mali zao kwa kuwasaidia wenzao wanaosumbuliwa na matatizo mbalimbali ili waweze kuyamaliza haraka matatizo hayo, maishani mwake.

ENGLISH: “THE GOOD ONE OF A CALABASH.”

There were folks who raised a cow with a calabash in the village of Mwatuma. The cow used to give a lot of milk that they used to shake in a calabash for getting butter and cooking oil. Milk of such cow filled a calabash because it was abundant. That is why individuals called it “the good one of a calabash.”

This saying is compared to a rich man who uses his wealth for supporting people in his life. This rich man uses his wealth to aid those who suffer from various hitches so that they can quickly solve them, because of his generosity and love, in his life. He brings great joy to several persons whom he aids until they quickly solve their glitches because of his love and generosity in his life.

This rich man resembles the cow that gave so much milk from which people got butter and oil, because he also uses his wealth for aiding individuals who are trouble until they quickly solve those glitches. That is why they call him “the good one of a calabash.”

This saying imparts in individuals an idea of being generous enough to use their wealth for supporting others who suffer from various complications so that they can quickly solve those troubles in their lives.
