Imbuki ya kahayile kenako, ihoyelile nimo go ngashi. Ungashi gunuyo jiliginhu ja gutinila myenda nulu gumogela nzwili. Olihoyi munhu uyo alina nzwili ndihu mpaga jubhipila ukuntwe gokwe gunuyo kunguno ya gujileka shigu ningi bho nduhu ugujitina. Abhanhu bhagayung’wila giki atijine kugiki abhelele ukuntwe gokwe gunuyo. Hunagwene bhagang’wila giki, “tulaga ngashi.”

KISWAHILI: PIGA MKASI.

Chanzo cha msemo huo, huongelea juu ya kazi za mkasi. Mkasi huo, ni kitu cha kukatia nguo, au kunyolea ng’wele. Alikuwepo mtu aliye kuwa na nywele ndefu kichwani mwake mpaka zikamfanya aonekane vibaya kwa wenzake kwa sababu ya kuziacha kwa muda mrefu bila kuzikata nywele hizo. Watu walianza kumwambia kwamba azikate ili kichwa chake kipendeze. Ndiyo maana walimwambia kwamba, “piga mkasi.”

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa kiongozi anayewasimamia watu wake vizuri katika kazi zao. Mtu huyo, huwagawia kazi wafanya kazi hao na kuwasimamia vizuri kwa sababu ya unyofu wake huo, katika utumishi wake. Yeye huwafukuza kazi wafanya kazi wanaoshindwa kuyatekeleza vizuri majukumu yao, kwa sababu ya kutokupenda kazi yake iharibiwe na watendaji hao walio wavivu, katika utumishi wake huo.

Msemo huo, hufundisha wafanya kazi juu ya kuyatekeleza kwa makini majukumu yao ya kila siku kwenye kazi zao, ili waweze kupata nafasi ya kuendelea kubaki katika kazi zao hizo, maishani mwao.

 ENGLISH: BEAT SCISSORS.

The source of this saying talks about works of scissors. The scissors are tools for cutting clothes, or shaving hairs. There was a man who had long hairs on his head until them made him look badly to his colleagues because he left them for a long time without cutting them. People started telling him to cut them so that his head would look nice. That is why they told him that, “beat scissors.”

This saying is equated to a leader who manages his people well in their works. That person, assigns work to those workers and supervises them well because of his sincerity, in his service. He fires workers who fail to perform their duties well, because he does not like his work to be ruined by those lazy workers, in his service.

This person is similar to those who told the one who had long hears to cut them, because he also fires those who cannot perform their duties well, in his field. That is why he tells his colleagues that, “beat scissors.”

This saying imparts in workers an idea to carefully carry out their daily duties in their works, so that they can have a chance to continue staying in their works, in their lives.

Uweyi agaponaga majiliwa mingi noyi aha kaya yakwe yiniyo, kunguno ya gutumama milimo yakwe bho bhukamu na witegeleja bhutale bhunubho, umuwikaji bhokwe.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo agikolaga nuyo agashokela chiza ugiisha aho bhazunya bhagehu mpaga nose bhuzunya bhingi, kunguno nuweyi agatumama milimo yakwe na witegeleja bho gushokela gutumama aho itali ugubhelela chiza, umumilimo yakwe yiniyo. Hunagwene agayombaga giki, “nagisha nabhulicha.”

Ulusumo lunulo, lolanga bhanhu higulya ya gwigulambija gutumama milimo yabho na witegeleja bho gushokela chiza aho idinabhelela imilimo yabho, kugiki bhadule gupandika matwajo mingi, umukaya jabho.

KISWAHILI: NIMESALIMIA WAMEITIKIA WACHACHE.

Chanzo cha methali hiyo huangalia mtu aliyesalimia watu wengi, wakaitikia wachache tu. Ndiyo maana alisema kwamba, “nimesalimia wameitikia wachache.” Mtu huyo, alirudia kuwasalimia tena hao watu kwa sauti kubwa zaidi kuliko ile aliyoitumia mwanzoni. Yeye alipofanya hivyo, waliitikia watu wengi zaidi kuliko wale wa kwanza.

Methali hiyo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hufanya kazi zake kwa ufuatiliaji mzuri sana, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, huyatekeleza majukumu yake kwa kurudia kila pale anapoona kuwa hapajaisha vizuri, kwa sababu ya bidii yake na umakini wake huo katika kufanya kazi zake. Yeye hupata mazao mengi sana katika familia yake kwa sababu ya kufanya kazi kwa bidii na umakini mkubwa, katika maisha yake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule aliyesalimia watu wengi, wakaitikia wachache, akarudia kuwasalimia watu hao kwa sauti kubwa zaidi, mpaka wakaitikia wengi, kwa sababu naye huyatekeleza majukumu yake kwa kurudia pale anapoona kwamba hapajaisha vizuri, mpaka kazi yote inaisha. Ndiyo maana yeye husema kwamba, “nimesalimia wameitikia wachache.”

Methali hiyo, hufundisha watu juu ya kujibidisha kutekeleza majukumu yao kwa umakini wa kuparudia pale ambapo hapajafanyika vizuri, mpaka kazi yote imalizike vizuri, ili waweze kupata mafanikio mengi, katika familia zao.

ENGLISH: I HAVE GREETED A FEW OF THEM HAVE RESPONDED.

The source of the over head proverb looks at a person who greeted many people, only a few of them responded. That is why he said that, “I have greeted a few of them have responded.”

This man repeated to greet them in a louder voice than the one which he used at first. When he did that, they responded to more people than the first ones.

This proverb is compared to a person who does his works with a very good follow-up, in his life. Such person carries out his duties by repeating whenever he sees that it has not ended well, because of his diligence and his focus in doing his works. He gets a lot of crops in his family because of hard working and great focus, in his life.

This person is similar to the one who greeted many people but a few of them responded, and repeated greeting them with a louder voice, until they responded to many, because he also carries out his duties by repeating when he sees that it has not ended well, until all the work is finished. This proverb teaches people about increasing enough effort to carry out their duties with the attention to repeat where it is not done well, until all the work is finished well, so that they can get a lot of success, in their families.

Yeye alikuwa akikosa chakula katika familia yake kwa sababu ya kutoyatunza vizuri mashamba yake aliyoyalima kwa kuipalilia palizi mpaka kuimaliza. Ndiyo maana watu walisema juu yake kwamba, “kwani palizi hujipalilia anakoenda!

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye ni mvivu kufanya zake, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, hulima mashamba ya chakula na kuacha bila kuyapalilia palizi kwa sababu ya uvivu wake huo, maishani mwake. Yeye alikuwa akihangaika na tatizo na njaa katika familia yake hiyo, kwa sababu ya uvivu wake huo, wa kushindwa kupalilia palizi yote ya kwenye mashamba yake, katika maisha yake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule aliyekosa chakula katika kijiji chake na kuhamia kwenye kijiji kingine, ambacho wakazi wake walipata chakula, kwa sababu naye hukosa chakula kwa hulima mashamba na kuyaacha bila kuyapalilia palizi zake, maishani mwake. Ndiyo maana watu huongea juu yake kwamba “kwani palizi hujipalilia anakoenda!

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kujibidisha kufanya kazi zao kwa bidii kubwa, ili waweze kupata mafanikio mengi, katika familia zao, maishani mwao.

There was a person who was moving to a village where they had good food in that year. This man lacked food in his village in that year. Then he moved to another village where he heard that his people got a lot of food crops. He was lacking food in his family because of not taking good care of his cultivated fields. He did not finish weeding them. That is why people said about him that, “does it mean that weeds are wed by themselves where he is going!”

This saying is compared to a person who is lazy in doing his own works, in his life. That person, cultivates food fields and leaves without weeding them because of his laziness. He was struggling with problems and hunger in his family, because of his laziness, of not being able to weed all the weeds in his fields.

This person resembles the one who lacked food in his village and moved to another village where its inhabitants got food, because he also lacks food because he cultivates the fields and leaves them without weeding his weeds, in his life. That is why people talk about him that “does it mean that weeds are wed by themselves where he is going!”

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, adaiyigololaga chiza umihayo ya mumahoya gakwe genayo, kunguno ya gubhisa ginhu ijo agikalaga adahayile igiki abhiye bhajimane, umuwikaji bhokwe bhunubho. Uweyi agadumaga ugubhalela chiza abhanhu bha aha kaya yake kunguno ya guduma guigolola chiza imihayo ya mumahoya yakwe genayo, umukikalile kakwe.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikolaga nuyo oyombaga mihayo yakwe bho lilaka lidoni, kunguno nuweyi agayomba mihayo yakwe bho nduhu uguigolola chiza, umumahoya gakwe genayo, aha kaya yakwe. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga giki, “pandulaga mihayo.”

Akahayile kenako kalanga bhanhu higlya ya guyomba bhunhana bho guigolola chiza imihayo ya mumahoya yabho, kugiki bhadule gujilela chiza ikaya jabho, umuwikaji bhobho bhunubho.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule aliyesema maneno yakwe kwa sauti ndogo mpaka wenzake wakashindwa kuyasikia, kwa sababu naye huongea maneno bila kuyanyosha vizuri mpaka watu wanashindwa kuyaelewa vizuri, katika maongezi yake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “pasua maneno.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kusema ukweli kwa kuyanyosha vizuri maneno yao, katika maongezi yao, ili waweze kuzilea vyema familia zao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: BREAK THE WORDS.

There was a man who was speaking words in a low voice in his speech. Such person lived in a village of many people who failed to hear his words properly because he spoke them in a low voice. That is why those people told him that, “break the words.”

This saying is likened to a person who speaks his words by twisting them, in his life. Such person does not speak correctly his words, because he hides something that he does not want other people to understand, in his life. He fails to develop his family properly because of failing to properly stretch his words, in his life.

This person is similar to the one who said his words in a low voice until his colleagues could not hear them, because he also speaks words without stretching them properly until people are unable to understand them properly, in his speech. That is why people tell him that, “break the words.”

This saying teaches people about telling the truth by stretching their words properly, in their speech, so that they can raise their families well, in their lives.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, wiganikaga mihayo yingi habhuyanda bhokwe mpaga nose unamhala na wandya gwiganika mhayo gwa gutola, kunguno ya gudilila milimo iyo idinasolobho, umuwikaji bhokwe. Uweyi agadumaga ugubhuyegela ubhutoji bhokwe kunguno ya wiyibhu bhokwe bhunubho, umukikalile kakwe.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, akikolaga nuyo agiyibha gwikumba ng’wenda mpaga wela ubhujiku na wizuka ugugwikumba ung’wenda gunuyo, kunguno nuweyi igiyibha ugutola mpaga nose unamhala na wizuka gutola, umuwikaji bhokwe bhunubho. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga giki, “wizuka ng’wenda gwa gwikumba ikanza welaga.”

Ulusumo lunulo, lolanga bhanhu higulya ya gwanguha gutumama milimo yabho iyasolobho bho gwigulambija na bhukamu bhutale ahikanza lya milimo yabho linilo, kugiki bhadule gupandika matwajo mingi, umuwikaji bhobho.

Yoshua Bin Sira 25:3.

KISWAHILI: UMEKUMBUKA SHUKA YA KUJIFUNIKA WAKATI KUMEKUCHA.

Alikuwepo mtu aliyekuwa akiishi kwenye kijiji fulani. Mtu huyo, aliingia chumbani mwake kulala bila kujifunika shuka wakati baridi ilikuwa kali sana. Methali hiyo, hulinganishwa kwa mwanamume yule aliyechelewa kuoa mpaka akazeeka ndipo akafikiria kuoa, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, alikuwa akifikiria mambo mengine wakati wa ujana wake mpaka akazeeka ndipo akaanza kufikiria kuoa, kwa sababu ya kujali mambo yasiyo na faida, maishani mwake. Yeye alishindwa kuifurahia ndoa yake hiyo kwa sababu ya kujisahau kwake huko, wakati wa ujana wake, katika maisha yake hayo.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule aliyejisahau kujifunika shuka wakati wa baridi kali, mpaka asubuhi ndipo akakumbuka kujifunika, kwa sababu naye alijisahau kuoa mpaka akazeeka, ndipo akakumbuka kuoa, maishani mwake. Ndiyo maana watu walimwambia kwamba, “umekumbuka shuka ya kujifunika wakati kumekucha.”

Methali hiyo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwahi kuyatekeleza majukumu yao ambayo ni muhimu kwa bidii kubwa unapofika wakati wake, ili waweze kuyafikia malengo yao vizuri na kupata mafanikio mengi, maishani mwao.

Yoshua Bin Sira 25:3.

ENGLISH: YOU HAVE REMEMBERED THE SHEET TO COVER YOURSELF WHEN IT WAS MORNING.

There was a man who lived in a certain village. He went into his room to sleep without covering himself with a sheet when it was very cold. He slept until morning then he remembered to cover himself with a sheet because of his forgetfulness. That is why people told him that, “you have remembered the sheet to cover yourself when it was morning.”

This proverb is related to the man who delayed marrying until he was old and then he thought about marrying, in his life. Such man was thinking about other things during his youth until he got old and then he started thinking about getting married, because he cared about useless things in his life. He failed to enjoy his marriage because of his self-forgetfulness there, during his youth, in his life.

This is like the one who forgot to cover himself with a sheet during the cold winter, until morning then he remembered to cover himself, because he also forgot to marry until he was old, then he remembered to marry, in his life. That is why people told him that, “you have remembered the sheet to cover yourself when it was morning.”

This proverb imparts in people an idea of carrying out their duties which are important with great effort when the time comes, so that they can achieve their goals well and achieve many successes in their lives.

Joshua Bin Sira 25:3.
