KISWAHILI: KAMBA HUKATIKIA MWISHONI.

Chanzo cha methali hiyo huongelea juu ya ukatikaji wa kamba pale inapochokea. Kamba hiyo hufungiwa vitu mbalimbali kwenye upande wake mwishoni. Yenyewe hulainika sana kwenye sehemu hiyo ya mwishoni inapotumika kufungia vitu mpaga mwishowe hukatika kwa sababu ya kukunjwa mara nyingi inapofungiwa vitu hivyo. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, “kamba hukatikia mwishoni.”

Methali hiyo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hufanya kazi na kuiacha anapokaribia kuimaliza, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, hufanya kazi kama vile kuvuka mto na kushindwa anapokaribia mwishoni, au kupalilia palizi na kushindwa kuimaliza anapokaribia mwishoni, kwa sababu ya kushindwa kuvumilia vizuri, katika utekelezaji wa majukumu yake. Yeye hukosa mali kwenye familia yake kwa sababu ya kukosa uvumilivu huo wa kuzimaliza vizuri kazi zake, katika utekelezaji wa majukumu yake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na ile kamba iliyokatikia mwishoni, kwa sababu naye hufanya kazi na kuziachia mwishoni, bila kuzimaliza, katika kazi zake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “kamba hukatikia mwishoni.”

Methali hiyo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na uvumilivu wa kuzimaliza vizuri kazi zao, katika utekelezaji wa majukumu yao, ili waweze kupata mafanikio mengi, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: THE STRING BREAKS AT THE END.

The basis of the overhead proverb discusses about a breaking of a rope when it gets tired. This rope is tied to various things on its side at the end. It is very soft at the end when it is used to tie things, and eventually it breaks due to being folded sundry times when those things are tied. That is why people say that, “the string breaks at the end.”

This proverb is related to a person who works and leaves it when he is about to finish it, in his life. Such person, does a job like crossing a river and fails when he gets close to the end, or weeding weeds and fails to finish it when he gets close to the end, because of his inability to endure well, in the implementation of his duties. He lacks capital in his family because of his lack of strong patience enough to finish his works properly, in carrying out of his duties.

This person is like the rope that broke at the end, because he also works and leaves them at the end, without finishing them, in his works. That is why people tell him that, “the string breaks at the end.”

This proverb imparts in people an idea of having strong patience enough to finish their works well, in the fulling their responsibilities, so that they can get a lot of success in their lives.

KISWAHILI: WANAOINGIA MJINI SIO KWAMBA WAJINGA.

Msemo huo huongelea watu walioingia mjini. Mjini huishi watu wengi ambao hufanya kazi mbalimbali kila mmoja akiwa na yake kwa sababu ya wingi wa kazi hizo.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na wale waliowaona kama ni wajinga watu walioingia mijini, kwa sababu naye huzidharau hovyo kazi anazoziona, katika maisha yake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “wanaoingia mjini sio kwamba wajinga.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha kudharau kazi wanazoziona katika maeneo yao ili waweze kufanya kazi za kuwawezesha kuziendeleza vizuri familia zao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: THOSE WHO ENTER THE CITY ARE NOT STUPID.

This saying speaks of people who entered the city. Many people live in cities who do different jobs, each one with his own because of having a number of jobs in them.

But then, some people who live in rural areas think that those who move to the cities are stupid because they despise jobs which are in the cities. That is why people tell them that, “those who enter the city are not stupid.”

This saying is related to a person who carelessly despises works which he sees in his life. Such person chooses easy jobs because of his disdain for some jobs in his life. He misses work to do in his family because of his disdain for works which he sees in his life.

This person resembles the one who considered people who entered the cities as idiots, because he also despises works which he sees in his life. That is why people tell him that, “those who enter the city are not stupid.”

This saying teaches people about stopping scorning jobs which they see in their areas so that they can do jobs that can enable them to nicely develop their families, in their lives.

Akahayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo alina nhungwa ja bhub’i umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo agitakaga mihayo ya sagala aha kaya yakwe, kunguno ya nhungwa jakwe ija bhub’i jinijo. Uweyi agidumanga na bhanhu bhingi aha kaya yakwe kunguno ya nhungwa jakwe ija bhub’i jinijo, umuwikaji bhokwe.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikolaga nu omalaga magehu kunguno nuweyi agitaka mihayo ya bhub’i umukikalile kakwe. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga giki, “atomokile ung’wana b’uya.”

KISWAHILI: MTU MWENYE AKILI PUNGUFU.

Msemo huo huambiwa mtu mwenye akili pungufu. Mtu huyo, huambiwa na watu wanaomuona namna yake ya kuishi kwa sababu ya matendo yake yanayoonesha hivyo. Watu humsema hivyo kwa njia ya fumbo ili asielewe kinachoongelewa juu yake. Ndiyo maana wao humwambia kwamba ni “mtu mwenye akili pungufu.”

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye ana tabia mbaya katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, hutenda mambo ya hovyo kwenye familia yake, kwa sababu ya tabia yake hiyo mbaya. Yeye hukosana na watu wengi kwenye familia yake kwa sababu ya tabia yake hiyo mbaya maishani mwake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule mwenye akili pungufu, kwa sababu naye hufanya mambo mabaya katika maisha yake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba ni “mtu mwenye akili pungufu.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha tabia ya kutenda maovu kwa kutenda mema ili waweze kuzilinda vizuri familia zao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: A PERSON OF LIMITED INTELLIGENCE.

This saying is said to a person who has restricted cleverness. Such person is told by people who see his way of living and discover that is contrary to normal life because of his actions that show such situation. People say so to him in a mystical way so that he does not understand what is being said about him. That is why they tell him that he is “a person of limited intelligence.”

This saying is matched to a person who has wicked deeds in his life. Such person does reckless things to his family, because of his ruthless manners. He is at odds with many people in his family because of his evil deeds in his life.

This person resembles the one who had partial cleverness, because he also does wicked deeds in his life. That is why people call him “a person of limited intelligence.”

This saying imparts in people an idea of giving up customs of doing evils by doing good ones so that they can soundly protect their families in their lives.

Hunagwene abhang’wi bha walwa bhenabho bhagiwilaga giki “lwaga nsiga.”

Akahayile kenako, kagalenganijiyagwa ku bhanhu abho bhagajikenagulaga sagala isabho jabho umukikalile kabho. Abhanhu bhenabho bhagajikenagulaga isabho jabho bho gujigulila majikolo ayo gadinasolobho aha kaya jabho kunguno ya gugayiwa witegeleja umuwikaji bhobho. Abhoyi bhagikalaga bhukoya na makoye ga gugayiwa jiliwa aha kaya jabho kunguno ya kujikenagula sagala isabho jabho jinijo, umukikalile kabho.

Lengo lake ni mtama ambao hutumika katika kutengenezea pombe hiyo. Kumbe basi, kunywa pombe ndiyo kula mtama. Ndiyo maana wanywaji hao wa pombe huhimizana kuinywa pombe hiyo kwa kusema kwamba, “kula mtama.”

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa watu wale ambao huziharibu hovyo mali zao katika maisha yao. Watu hao, huziharibu mali zao hizo kwa kuzinunulia vitu visivyo na faida katika familia zao, kwa sababu ya kukosa umakini maishani mwao. Wao huishi kwa kuhangaishwa na matatizo ya kukosa chakula katika familia zao, kwa sababu ya kuzitumia hovyo mali zao hizo, katika maisha yao.

Watu hao hufanana na wale waliozinywea pombe mali zao, kwa sababu nao huzitumia hovyo mali zao hizo, katika maisha yao. Ndiyo maana huambiana kwamba, “kula mtama.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na umakini wa kuzitumia vizuri mali zao, ili ziweze kuwasaidia vizuri katika kuziendeleza familia zao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: EAT MILLET.

The spring of this saying looks at the drinkers of alcohol. There were alcoholic drinkers who were encouraging each other to drink an alcohol by saying “eat millet” which means, drink alcohol. Its target is millet which is used in making such alcohol. However, drinking alcohol is eating millet. That is why those who drink alcohol encourage each other to drink it by saying, “eat millet.”

This saying is equated to people who want only to destroy their possessions in their lives. Those people, destroy their property by buying useless things for their families, because of lack of attention in their lives. They live worried about problems of lacking food in their families, because of such careless use of their possessions, in their lives.

Those people are like those who drank alcohol which they bought by using their wealth, because they use their wealth carelessly in their lives. That is why they say to each other that, “eat millet.”

This saying imparts in people an idea of being careful in using their properties well, so that they can nicely help them in developing their families in their lives.

Abhanhu bhenabho bhagajaga gujulya jiliwa aha kaya iyo bhabhonaga lilizika lyochi bhagalindila mpaga japya, kunguno ya bhugokolo bho gutumama milimo aha kaya jabho. Abhoyi bhagadumaga ugujibheja ikaya jabho kunguno ya bhugokolo bho gutumama milimo bhusanyaga guja bhulilila mumakaya gabhanhu, umukikalile kabho.

Abhanhu bhenabho bhagikolaga na mamoto ga mbula ayo gagakwilaga hado hado nose ya kula mbula, kunguno nabhoyi bhagalilila jiliwa mumakaya mpaga nose bhiguta, umuwikaji bhobho. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagabhayombaga giki, “gagwa mamoto.”

KISWAHILI: YAMEANGUKA MATONE.

Chanzo cha msemo huo huangalia matone ya mvua ambayo hutangulia inapotaka kunyesha. Matone hayo, huanguka kidogo kidogo mwishowe yanakuwa mvua kubwa. Kumbe basi, matone hayo huwa ni alama ya kuanza kunyesha mvua. Ndiyo maana watu wakiyaona husema kwamba, “yameanguka matone.”

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa watu wale ambao huenda kula kwenye familia za watu walioivisha chakula, maishani mwao. Watu hao, huenda kula chakula kwenye familia ile wanapoona moshi unatokeza kusubiria chakula hicho mpaka kinaiva, kwa sababu ya uvivu wa kufanya kazi kwenye familia zao. Wao hushindwa kuziendeleza familia zao kwa sababu ya uvivu huo wa kufanya kazi zao, wakitegemea kwenda kula chakula cha wenzao.

Watu hao hufanana na yale matone ya mvua ambayo huongezeka kidogo kidogo mpaka mwishowe yanakuwa mvua, kwa sababu nao huenda kula kwenye familia za watu mpaga mwishowe wanatosheka, katika maisha yao. Ndiyo maana watu huwasema kwamba, “yameanguka matone.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuachana na tabia ya uvivu wa kufanya kazi wakitemea kula kwenye familia za wenzao, kwa kujibidisha kufanya kazi, ili waweze kuziendeza vizuri familia zao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: DROPS HAVE FALLEN.

The basis of this saying looks at the raindrops that precede when it wants to rain. These drops fall little by little and finally become heavy rain. However, those drops are signs of rain. That is why when people see them, they say, “drops have fallen.”

This saying is related to people who go to eat in families of others who fed them, in their lives. Those people go to eat food in the family when they see smoke coming out and wait for the food until it is cooked, because of their laziness of working in their families. They fail to support their families because of their laziness of doing their works, by depending on going to eat their friends’ food.

Those people are like the raindrops which increase little by little until they finally become rain, because they also go to eat in the families of people who are finally satisfied, in their lives. That is why people say that, “drops have fallen.”

This saying teaches people about abandoning habit of working lazily while spitting in families of their colleagues, by forcing themselves to work, so that they can manage to run well their families, in their lives.
