KISWAHILI: KWA NINI UNAJIUNGUZA?

Alikuwepo mtu aliyekuwa mlevi wa pombe kali katika maisha yake. Pombe hiyo iliuharibu mwili wake kwa sababu ya ukali wake huo. Mtu huyo, alijulikana sana kwenye kijiji chake kwa sababu ya ulevi wake huo. Ndiyo maana watu walimuuliza kwamba “kwa nini anajiunguza?”

Msemo huo hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye huudhuru mwili wake kwa kutenda matendo ambayo humletea matatizo, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, hula chakula kupita kiasi mpaga anaugua kwa sababu ya kukosa umakini wa kuwa na kiasi maishani mwake. Yeye huuharibu mwili wake huo kwa sababu ya kukosa umakini huo wa kuwa na kiasi katika matumizi ya vitu vyake katika maisha yake hayo.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule aliyelewa pombe kali mpaka akaiharibu afya yake, kwa sababu naye hula chakula kupita kiasi mpaka anaugua, maishani mwake. Ndiyo maana watu humuuliza kwamba, “kwa nini anajiunguza?”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na umakini wa kuvitumia vitu vyao kwa kiasi kizuri, ili waweze kuzilinza vizuri afya zao, katika maisha yao hayo.

ENGLISH: WHY DO YOU HURT YOURSELF?

There was a man who was a heavy drinker of alcohol in his life. The alcohol destroyed his body because of its intensity. Such man became so well known in his village because of his alcoholism. That is why people asked him that, “Why do you hurt yourself?”

This saying is equaled to a person who harms his body by doing deeds that cause him hitches in his life. This man eats too much food to the point of getting sick because of a lack of attention to moderation in his life. He destroys his body because of his lack of attention to such moderation in using of his belongings in life.

This man is similar to a person who drank too much alcohol to the point of ruining his health, because he also eats too much food until he gets sick, in his life. That is why people ask him that, “Why do you hurt yourself?”

This saying teaches people about being so careful enough to use their possessions in the right way, so that they can take respectable care of their health in their lives.

1395. LYAGI NAWE DUHU.

Olihoyi nigini uyo wikalaga aha kaya ya bhasab’i. Unigini ng’wunuyo agahaya gujulya na bhanhu bhatale aho jatengwa ijiliwa kunguno oliatuubhile. Abhanhu bhagayunemeja ugujilya ijiliwa jinijo kunguno jali jabhatale. Hunagwene unamhala oha kaya yiniyo agabhawila giki, “lyagi nawe duhu.”

Akakayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa ku kaya ya bhanhu abho bhalibhizanholo umukikalile kabho. Abhanhu bhenabho, bhagabhakaribhushaga pye abhanhu bhajilya ijiliwa jabho ulu japyaga kunguno ya wizanholo bhobho bhunubho umuwikaji bhobho. Abhoyi bhagapandikaga mbango ja gwikala bho mholele na bhanhu bhabho aha kaya yabho yiniyo, kunguno ya wizanholo bhobho bhunubho.

Ikaya ya bhanhu bhenabho igikolaga nu namhala uyo olyaga na bhanigini ijiliwa jakwe ulu japyaga, kunguno nabhoyi bhagabhakaribhushaga pye abhanhu bhajilya ijiliwa jabho ulu japyaga, aha kaya yabho yiniyo. Hunagwene bhagayombaga giki, “lyagi nawe duhu.”

Akahayile kenako kalanga bhanhu higulya ya gubhiza na wizanholo bho gubhambilija abhichabho abho bhalina makoye, kugiki bhadule gwikala na bhuyegi bhutale umukaya jabho jinijo.

KISWAHILI: MLE NAYE TU.

Alikuwepo mtoto aliyekuwa akiishi kwenye familia tajiri. Mtoto huyo, alitaka kula na watu wazima kilipowekwa mezani chakula chao kwa sababu alikuwa na njaa. Watu walimzuia kukila chakula hicho kwa sababu kiliwa cha watu wazima. Ndiyo maana mzee wa familia hiyo aliwaambia kwamba, “mle naye tu.”

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa familia ya watu wale ambao ni wakarimu katika maisha yao. Watu hao huwakaribisha watu wote kula chakula chao kinapoiva kwa sababu ya ukarimu wao huo, maishani mwao. Wao hupata Baraka za kuishi kwa furaha kubwa katika familia yao, kwa sababu ya ukarimu wao huo katika maisha yao.

Familia ya watu hao, hufanana na yule mzee aliyekula chakula chake pamoja na watoto kilipoiva, kwa sababu nao huwakaribisha watu wote kula chakula chao kinapoiva, katika familia yao. Ndiyo maana wao husema kwamba, “mle naye tu.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na ukarimu wa kuwasaidia wenzao wanaokumbwa na matatizo mbalimbali, ili waweze kuishi kwa furaha kubwa katika familia zao.

ENGLISH: EAT ONLY WITH HIM.

There was a child who lived in a rich family. This child wanted to eat with adults when their food was placed on the table because he was hungry.  People prevented him from eating such food because it was for adults. That is why the elder of the family told them that, “eat only with him.”

This saying is related to the family of people who are generous in their lives. These people invite everyone to eat their food when it is ready because of their generosity in their lives. They receive blessings of living with great happiness in their family, because of their generosity in their lives.

This family of these people is like the old man who ate his food with children when it was ready, because they also invite everyone in their family to eat their food when it is ready. That is why they say that, “eat only with him.”

This saying imparts in people an idea of being generous enough to help their nobles who are facing various hitches, so that they can live with great happiness in their families.

1394. AGASIMIZAGA NA MASHIGA GU NOMO.

Amashiga gali mazugilo ayo gagikalaga mawe nulu madifali adatu. Amashiga genayo gagaibhuchaga inungu nulu fulila. Abhanhu bhagabhachaga moto uyo gugikalaga aha gati yago amashiga genayo kunguno ya guzugila jiliwa. Unzugi agafulaga moto bho gutumila nomo gokwe nago gobhaka uyo gugabishaga ijiliwa. Hunagwene abhanhu bhang’wilaga unzugi ng’wunuyo giki, “agasiminzaga na mashiga gu nomo.”

Ulusumo lunulo lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agabehaga shigala umukakilile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo agajibehaga ishigala jinijo mpaga ofunya lyochi umunomo gokwe guti giki alina mashiga umunomo gunuyo, kunguno ya gukija gugudililaga chiza umili gokwe. Uweyi agajikenagulaga imbazu jakwe bho gubeha shigala jinijo, kunguno ya gugija gugudilila chiza umili gokwe gunuyo, umuwikaji bhokwe.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo agikolaga nuyo ofulaga moto bho nomo gobhaka mpaga lyafuma lyochi, kunguno nuweyi agabehaga shigala mpaga ofunya lyochi umunomo gokwe gunuyo, umuwikaji bhokwe. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga giki, “agasiminzaga na mashiga gu nomo.”

Ulusumo lunulo lolanga bhanhu higulya ya guilanhana chiza imimili yabho bho guleka gubeha shigala, kugiki bhadule gwikala mhola, umukaya jabho.

KISWAHILI: HUTEMBEA NA MAFIGA MDOMONI.

Mafiga ni aina ya jiko la kupikia lenye mawe au matofali matatu. Mafiga hayo hubeba chombo cha kupikia kama vile chungu au sufulia. Watu huwasha moto katikati ya mafiga hayo matatu kwa sababu ya kupika chakula. Mpishi gupuliza moto kwa kutumia mdomo wake ndipo moto huo unawaka ambao hukipika chakula hicho mpaka kukiivisha. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia mpishi huyo kwamba, “hutembea na mafiga mdomoni.”

Methali hiyo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye huvuta sigala katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, huvuta sigala hizo mpaka anatoa moshi mdomoni mwake hali ambayo huonekana kama anamafiga mdomoni mwake, kwa sababu ya kutokuujali vizuri mwili mwake. Yeye huyaharibu mapafu yake kwa kuvuta sigala hizo, kwa sababu ya kukosa umakini huo wa kuijali vizuri afya yake, maishani mwake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule awashaye moto kwenye mafiga kwa kupuliza akitumia mdomo wake mpaka unatoka moshi, kwa sababu naye huvuta sigala mpaka anatoa moshi mdomoni mwake, katika maisha yake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “hutembea na mafiga mdomoni.”

Methali hiyo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuzitunza vizuri afya za miili yao kwa kuacha kuvuta sigala, ili waweze kuwa salama, katika familia zao.

ENGLISH: HE WALKS WITH KITCHEN IN THE MOUTH.

A kitchen is a type of cooking stove which has three stones or bricks. These stones or bricks carry a cooking vessel such as pot or saucepan. People light a fire in the middle of these three stones or bricks for cooking food. The cook blows the fire by using his mouth and the fire burns which cooks the food well. That is why people say to the cook that, “he walks with kitchen in the mouth.”

This proverb is equaled to a person who smokes cigarettes in his life. Such person, smokes those cigarettes until he exhales smoke in his mouth, which seems like he exhales it in his mouth, because of not taking respectable care of his body. He damages his lungs by smoking those cigarettes, because of not paying attention enough to take decent care of his health, in his life.

This person is like the one who lights the fire in the three cooking stones or bricks by blowing fire using his mouth until smoke comes out, because he also smokes cigarettes until smoke comes out in his mouth. That is why people say to him that, “He walks with kitchen in the mouth.”

This proverb instills in people an idea of taking virtuous care of their physical health by quitting smoking, so that they can be safe, in their families.

1393. AGANENHELAGA IGAYO GUMILI.

Aho kale olihoyi munhu uyo wikalaga mubhutemi bho bhusiya. Umunhu ng’wunuyo olina ng’wiye uyo ondalahijaga kunguno ya libhengwe lwakwe umukikalile kakwe. Hunagwene agayomba giki “aganenhelaga igayo gumili.”

Akahayike kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu ndoshi uyo agabhadalahijaga abhiye umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, adabhadegelekaga abhiye umumahoya gakwe bho gubhabhona guti bhadina masala ga guyomba mihayo ya solobho, kunguno ya bhudoshi bhokwe ubho gubhibhengwa chiniko abhiye, umuwikaji bhokwe. Uweyi agadumaga ugwikala chiza na bhanhu bha ha kaya yakwe kunguno ya bhudoshi bhokwe bhunubho ubho gubhadalahija abhiye umumahoya gakwe genayo.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo agikolaga nuyo ondalahijaga ung’wiye uyo bhikalaga nanghwe, kunguno nuweyi agabhadalahijaga abhiye umumahoya gakwe genayo, umuwikaji bhokwe. Hunagwene agayombaga giki, “aganenhelaga igayo gumili.”

Akahayile kenako kalanga bhanhu higulya ya guleka bhudoshi bho gubhadalahija abhichabho umumahoya gabho, kugiki bhadule gujilela chiza ikaya jabho, umuwikaji bhobho.

KISWAHILI: ANANILETEA DHARAU MWILINI.

Hapo zamani alikuwepo mtu aliyekuwa akiishi kwenye utawala wa Busiya. Mtu huyo alikuwa akiishi na mwenzake ambaye alikuwa akimdharau kwa sababu ya majivuno yake hayo katika maisha yake. Ndiyo maana alisema kwamba, “ananiletea dharau mwilini.”

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule aliye na majivuno ya kuwadharau wenzake, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, huwa hawasikilizi wenzake katika maongezi yake kwa kuwaona kama hawana akili za kuwawezesha kuongea maneno ya maana, kwa sababu ya majivuno yake ya kuwadharau wenzake hao, maishani mwake. Yeye hushindwa kuishi vizuri na watu wa kwenye familia yake hiyo kwa sababu ya majivuno yake hayo ya kuwadharau wenzake katika maongezi yake hayo.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule aliyemdharau mwenzake aliyekuwa akiishi naye, kwa sababu naye huwadharau wenzake katika maongezi yake, maishani mwake. Ndiyo maana yeye husema kwamba, “ananiletea dharau mwilini.”

Msemo huo hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha majivuno ya kuwadharau wenzao katika maongezi yao, ili waweze kuzilea vizuri famila zao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: HE BRINGS ME DISGRACE IN THE BODY.

Once upon a time, there was a man who lived in Busiya kingdom. Such man lived with a neighbor who despised him because of his arrogance in his life. That is why he said that, “he brings me disgrace in the body.”

This saying is paralleled to a person who is arrogant enough to despise his neighbors in his life. Such person does not listen to his neighbors in his conversation as he sees them as not smart enough to speak meaningful words because of his arrogance of despising his neighbors in his life. He fails to live well with people in his family because of his arrogance of scorning his neighbors in his conversation.

This person relates to the one who despised his neighbor who lived with him, because he also despises his neighbors in his conversation, in his life. That is why he says that, “he brings me disgrace in the body.”

This saying teaches people to about doing away with pride of belittling others in their speech, so that they can nicely raise their families, in their lives.

Alihoyi munhu uyo olina lwinzi umuchalo ja Jishapu. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, olialutogilwe noyi ulwinzi lokwe lunulo kunguno lo ng’wambilijaga noyi. Aliyo lulu, ulwinzi lunulo lugakama kunguno gagashila aminzi genayo. Hunagwene agayomba giki, “lwinzi lone lokama.”

Akahayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo olimsab’i omajikolo mingi uyo oliadakoyaga, ijo jigashila mpaga wandya guyukoya, umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, olinsab’i o majikolo mingi ayo ogatumamilaga bho gugisanya nyadoshi mpaga nose gushila, kunguno ya gugisanya goyi bhuli nimo, umuwikaji bhokwe. Uweyi agahabhika mpaka wandya guyukoya aha kaya yakwe kunguno ya bhudoshi bhokwe ubho gujisanya isabho jinijo na kujitumilaga sagala, umukikalile kakwe.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikolaga nuyo lugakama ulwinzi ulo olialutogilwe, kunguno nuweyi jigashila isabho jakwe ijo oliajisanije noyi mpaga uyukoyakoya, umuwikaji bhokwe. Hunagwene agayomba giki, “lwinzi lone lokama.”

KISWAHILI: KISIMA CHANGU KIMEKAUKA.

Alikuwepo mtu aliyekuwa na kisima kwenye kijiji cha Kishapu. Mtu huyo, alikuwa anakipenda sana kisima chake hicho kwa sababu kilikuwa kinamsaidia sana maishani mwake. Lakini basi, kisima hicho kilikauka akaanza kuhangaika. Ndiyo maana alisema kwamba, “kisima changu kimekauka.”

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule aliyekuwa tajiri ambaye alifirisika mpaka akaanza kuhangaika, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, alipokuwa tajiri wa mali nyingi, alikuwa akizitumia mali zake hizo kwa majivuno mpaka mwishowe zikaisha, kwa sababu ya kuzitegemea sana mali hizo kwenye kutatua kila tatizo, maishani mwake. Yeye alifirisika mpaka akanza kuhangaika kwenye familia yake, kwa sababu ya majivuno yake ya kutegemea mali zake na kuzitumia vizuri, katika maisha yake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule ambaye kisima alichokuwa anakipenda kilikauka, kwa sababu naye aliishiwa mali zake alizokuwa anazitegemea sana mpaka akaanza kuhangaika, maishani mwake. Ndiyo maana alisema kwamba, “kisima changu kimekauka.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha majivuno wanapotajirika, ili waweze kuendana vizuri na wenzao ambao ni maskini, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: MY WELL HAS DRIED UP.

There was a man who had a well in the village of Kishapu. Such man liked his well so much because it supported him a lot in his life. But then, the well dried up until he began to worry. That is why he said that, “my well has dried up.”

This saying is matched to a rich man who lost his wealth until he started to worry, in his life. When this man was rich with a lot of wealth, he used his wealth arrogantly until it finally ran out, because he relied too much on it in solving every difficult in his life. He was broke until he started to worry about his family, because of his pride of relying too much on his wealth in using it.

This man is similar to the one whose well which he liked dried up, because he also ran out of the wealth which he had relied on so much until he started to worry, in his life. That is why he said that, “my well has dried up.”

This saying imparts in people an idea of abandoning pride when they become rich, so that they can fit in well with their poor nobles in their lives.
