Akahayile kenako kahoyelile higulya ya bhuli bho waya bho ginhu jilebhe. Ubhuli bhunubho bhuli bhupeja bho mondoka ubho wangu wangu mpaga nose yagaileka inzila. Imondoka yiniyo igapejiwa jigijigi mpaga yugaileka inzila bho guja chawi kunguno ya lugendo lukali lunulo. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayomba giki, “lyalyaga waya.”

Akahayile kenako, kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agajitumilaga sagala iginhu mpaga opandika makoye, umuwikaji bhokwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo agajitumamilaga isabho jakwe bho sagala chiniko mpaga opandika makoye gagujibhipya, na gwiminya kunguno ya gugaiwa witegeleja umubhutumami bho milimo yakwe yiniyo. Uweyi agajimalaga isabho jakwe mpaga ogayiwa ijiliwa aha kaya yakwe kunguno ya gugayiwa witegeleja umukatumamile ka sabho jakwe jinijo, umuwikaji bhokwe.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikolaga nuyo oyipejaga jigijigi imondoka mpaga yugaileka inzila bho guja chawi, kunguno nuweyi agajitumilaga sagala isabho jakwe mpaga opandika makoye, umuwikaji bhokwe. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga giki, “lyalyaga waya.”

KISWAHILI: LIMEKULA WAYA.

Msemo huo huongelea juu ya ulaji wa waya wa kitu fulani. Ulaji huo ni uendeshaji wa gari kwa mwendo wa kasi sana mpaka linaacha njia na kwenda porini. Gari hilo liliendeshwa kwa kasi hiyo mpaka likaingia porini kwa sababu ya ukali wa mwenda huo. Ndiyo maana watu walisema kwamba, “limekula waya.”

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hutuvitumia vitu vyake hovyo mpaga ana pata matatizo, maishani mwake. Mtu huyo, hutuvitumia hovyo mali zake hizo mpaga anapata matatizo kwa sababu ya kukosa umakini katika kazi zako hizo. Yeye huzimaliza mali zake hizo mpaga anafikia hatua ya kukosa chakula katika familia yake kwa sababu ya kukosa umakini katika kazi zake hizo.

Mtu huyo hufanana na yule aliyeendesha gari kwa kasi mpaka likaaga njia na kuingia porini, kwa sababu naye huvitumia mali zake hovyo mpaga anapata matatizo, maishani mwake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “limekula waya.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na umakini wa kuzitumia mali zao vizuri, ili ziweze kuwasaidia katika kuziendeleza vyema familia zao, katika maisha yao.

ENGLISH: IT HAS EATEN WIRE.

This saying talks about a wire intake of something. Such consumption is a driving of a car at a very high speed until it leaves the road and goes wild. The driver of that car drove it at that speed until it entered the forest because of an intensity of the movement. That is why people said that, “it has eaten wire.”

This saying is equated to a person who uses his things carelessly to point of having problems in his life. Such person uses his property carelessly until he gets into trouble because of lack of attention in his works. He exhausts his possessions until he reaches the point where there is no food in his family because of his lack of attention in his works.

This person is similar to the one who drove a car at a very high speed until it left the road and entered the forest, because he also spends his wealth carelessly to the point of getting into trouble in his life. That is why people tell him that, “it has eaten wire.”

This saying impart in people an idea of  being careful enough to use their assets well, so that they can help them in developing their families well, in their lives.

1265. KAMUSEKA NGALE.

Imbuki ya kahayile kenako, ilolile ng’waniki uyo oling’widohya umuchalo jakwe. Olihoyi ng’waniki uyo oli ng’widohya na ng’wibhembu chiza umuwikaji bhokwe. Ung’waniki ng’wunuyo, wikalaga chiza na bhanhu umuchalo jakwe kunguno ya widohya bhokwe bhunubho. Hunagwene abhanhu bhenabho bhagang’witana giki “kamuseka ngale.”

Akahayile kenako, kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo alini kujo ukubhanhu abho agikalaga nabho, umuwikaji bhokwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, abhagambilija abhanhu abha hakaya yakwe kunguno ya nikujo lyakwe linilo, umukikalile kakwe. Uweyi agailelaga chiza ikaya yakwe kunguno ya likujo lyakwe ukubhanhu bhakwe bhenabho.

Uweyi agikolaga nu ng’waniki uyo olina widohya bho gwikala chiza na bhanhu bhakwe, kunguno nuweyi alinikujo lya gwikala na bhanhu bhakwe chiza, umuchalo jakwe. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’witanana giki, “kamuseka ngale.”

Akahayile kenako kalanga bhanhu higulya ya gubhiza nikujo lya gwikala chiza na bhanhu bhabho, kugiki bhadule gujilela chiza ikaya jabho, umubhulamu bhobho.

KISWAHILI: MSICHANA MNYENYEKEVU.

Chanzo cha msemo huo, huangalia msichana aliyekuwa mnyenyekevu kwenye kijiji chake. Msichana huyo, alikuwa mnyenyekevu na mtulifu katika kuishi na watu. Yeye aliishi vizuri na watu wa kwenye kijiji chake kwa sababu ya unyenyekevu wake huo. Ndiyo maana watu hao walimuita jina la “msichana mnyenyekevu.”

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu aliye na hekima ya kuishi na watu wake vizuri, maishani wake. Mtu huyo, huwasaidia watu anaoishi nao vizuri kwa sababu ya hekima yake hiyo, katika maisha yake. Yeye huilea vyema familia yake kwa sababu ya hekima yake hiyo ya kuishi vizuri wa watu.

Mtu huyo hufanana na yule msichana aliyekuwa na unyenyekevu wa kuishi na watu vizuri, kwa sababu naye ana hekima ya kuishi na watu vizuri katika kijiji chake. Ndiyo maana watu humuita jina la “msichana mnyenyekevu.”

Msemo huo hufundisha watu juu ya kuwa na hekima ya kuishi vizuri na watu wao, ili waweze kuzilea vizuri familia zao, maishani mwao.

 ENGLISH: A HUMBLE GIRL.

The cradle of this saying looks at a humble girl who live in a village. This girl was humble and active in living peacefully with people. She lived well with the people of her village because of her humility. That is why those people gave to her a name of “a humble girl.”

This saying is compared to a person who has wisdom of living well with people in life. Such person helps people by living well with them because of such wisdom in life. He takes good care of his family members because of his wisdom of relating well with them.

This person resembles the girl who had humility of living well with people in her village, because he also has such wisdom of relating well with people of his village. That is why people call him “a humble girl.”

This saying teaches people about having wisdom of living well with their people, so that they can nicely raise their family members in their lives.

1264. NG’HOME YA BHUTULUGU.

Imbuki ya kahayile kenako ihoyelile higulya ya Ng’ome. Ing’home yiniyo guli nang’ha nguhi uyo gugapunzagwa golekwa guduma ukubhukindilo guti ntwe gwa ng’wa munhu. Unang’ha gunuyo inhangala iningi gugikala na bhanhu abhahulu hulu. Unagwene abhanhu bhagagwitanaga giki, “ng’home ya butululu.”

Akahayile kenako, kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo alintululu umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agabhikoloshaga abhiye kunguno ya bhutululu bhokwe ubho guchola mihayo ukubhiye abho bhagikalaga bhalyehile. Uweyi agayikenagulaga ikaya yakwe kunguno ya bhutululu bhokwe bhunubho, umuwikaji bhokwe.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikolaga ni Ng’home iyo yatumilagwa na bhahulu hulu, kunguno nu weyi alina bhuhulu hulu ubho gubhikolosha abhiye, umuwikaji bhokwe bhunubho. Hunagwene abhanhu abhang’witanaga giki, “ng’home ya butululu.”

KISWAHILI: RUNGU LA JEURI.

Chanzo cha msemo huo, huongelea juu ya Rungu. Rungu hiyo ni fimbo fupi iliyochongwa vizuri na kuachwa ikiwa kubwa chini kama kichwa cha mtu. Fimbo hiyo, mara nyingi hutumiwa na watu wenye ujeuri. Ndiyo maana watu huiita fimbo hiyo kuwa, “rungu la jeuri.”

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye ni mjeuri katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, huishi kwa kuwachokoza wenzake kwa sababu ya ujeuri wake huo wa kutafuta ugomvi kwa wenzake wanaishi kwa utulivu. Yeye huiharibu familia yake kwa sababu ya ujeuri wake huo, katika maisha yake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na Rungu hilo lililotumiwa na watu wenye ujeuri, kwa sababu naye ana tabia ya ujeuri wa kuchokoza wenzake, katika maisha yake hayo. Ndiyo maana watu humwuita kuwa ni “rungu la jeuri.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuachana na tabia za ujeuri kwa kuishi vizuri na wenzao, ili waweze kuzilea vizuri familia zao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: A STICK OF A VIOLENT ONE

The cradle of this saying talks about a stick. This stick is a short rod that is well carved and left as large at the bottom as a man’s head. Such stick is often used by violent people. That is why people call that stick, “a stick of violent one.”

This saying is compared to a person who is violent in his life. Such person lives by provoking his colleagues because of his audacity to seek quarrels while his colleagues live in peace. He destroys his family because of his arrogance, in his life.

This person is similar to the Mace used by violent person because he also has a violent habit of provoking his colleagues, in his life. That is why people call him “a stick of a violent one.”

This saying teaches people about abandoning violent behaviors by living well with their peers, so that they can raise their families well, in their lives on the way to the heaven kingdom.

Imbuki ya kahayile kenako ilolile munhu uyo wilolaga hilole wibhone giki aliowiza noyi. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, wibhonaga giki abhelelile noyi aliyo oliadogile bho likanza lilihu.

Abhanhu bhamonaga giki abhipilile noyi kunguno ya guleka goga bho shidu ningi. Hunagwene abhanhu bhenabho bhagayomba giki, “kalole kabhalemba bhingi.”

Akahayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agakumilijiyagwa na bhanhu otogwa giki aliowiza, umukikalile kakwe, aliyo umunholo yakwe alina miganiko gabhubhi. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agatumamamaga milimo yakwe bho guchola gukumilijiwa na bhanhu abho bhalimhona, kunguno ya gwigimba giki, alintumami o wiza aliyo alinamiganiko ga bhubhi, umu ng’holo yakwe. Uwei agadumaga uguyilela chiza ikaya yakwe, kunguno ya kutogwa gukumilijiwa giki alimtumami owiza aliyo agiganikaga mihayo ya bhubhi umu ng’holo yakwe.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, akikolaga nuyo wilolaga hilole wilemba giki, aliowiza, aliyo oliadogile kulikanza lilihu, kunguno nuweyi atogilwe kuhaiwa giki alintumami owiza aliyo agikanikaga ya bhubhi, umuwikaji bhokwe. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga giki, “kalole kabhalemba bhinghi.”

Akahayile kenako, kalanga bhanhu higulwa ya gwiganika ya wiza iya gubhatogwa bhanhu na gutumama milimo yabho, bho nduhu gulinda gukumilijiwa na bhanhu, kugiki bhadule kujibheja chiza ikaza jabho, umuwikaji bhobho.

Chanzo cha msemo huo, huangalia mtu yule ambaye alikuwa akijiangalia kwenye kioo na kujiona kuwa ni mzuri sana kumbe sivyo. Mtu huyo, alijiiona kuwa anapendeza bila kuuona uchafu wake wa kutokuoga kwa muda mrefu.

Watu walimuona kuwa na muonekano mbaya kwa sababu ya uchafu wake huo wa kutokuoga kwa muda mrefu. Ndiyo maana walisema kwamba, “kioo kimewadanganya wengi.”

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule anayesifikiwa na watu na kufurahi kwamba ni mzuri, katika maisha yake, wakati moyoni mwake huwaza maovu. Mtu huyo, hufanya kazi zake kwa kutafuta sifa kutoka kwa watu wanaomuona, kwa sababu ya majivuno ya kuitwa mfanya kazi mwema, bila kuacha kuwaza maovu moyoni mwake. Yeye hushindwa kuilea vyema familia yake hiyo kwa sababu ya kupenda kusifiwa kuwa ni mzuri, wakati anawaza maovu moyoni mwake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule aliyejiangalia kwenye kioo akajidanganya kuwa ni mzuri, wakati alikuwa na uchafu wa kutokuoga kwa muda mrefu, kwa sababu naye hufurahia kusifiwa na watu kuwa ni mzuri, wakati anawaza maovu moyoni mwake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “kioo kimewadanganya wengi.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwaza mawazo mema ya kuwapenda wenzao, na kufanya kazi kwa bidii bila kutegemea kusifiwa na watu, ili waweze kuzilea vyema familia zao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: THE MIRROR HAS DECEIVED MANY.

The basis of this saying looks at a person who used to look at himself in a mirror and thinks that he is very good-looking while he is not. Such person considered him/herself as being attractive without seeing his dirt because of not taking shower for a long time.

People saw him/her bad appearance because of his/her dirt which was caused by not bathing for a long time. That is why they said that, “the mirror has deceived many.”

This saying is compared to a person who rejoices by being praised by others who tell him, that he is good in his life, while in his heart he thinks evil. Such person does his works by seeking praise from people who see him, because of the pride of being called a good worker, without stopping to think evils in his heart. He fails to raise well his family members because of seeking prestige, while he thinks evils in his heart.

This person resembles the one who looked at himself in the mirror and lied to himself that he was fine-looking, when he had dirt in the body, because he also enjoys being praised by people as being fine-looking, while he thinks evil things in his heart. That is why people tell him that, “the mirror has deceived many.”

This saying teaches people about thinking good thoughts of loving their fellows, and working hard without relying on praise from people, so that they can raise well their family members in their lives.

Akahayile kenako, kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agapandikaga sabho wandya gubhadosa abhiye umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agajipandikaga isabho oya ugubhadegeleka abho bhalilomba wambilija bhokwe, kunguno ya bhudoshi bhokwe bhunubho, umuwikaji bhokwe. Uweyi agadumaga uguilela chiza ikaya yakwe kunguno ya bhudoshi bhokwe bhunubho ubho agabholechaga ukubhiye ulu opajindika isabho jinijo, umukikalile kakwe.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikolaga nuyo agalima ngunda go mandege ugabisha mingi, mpaga oya ugubhadegeleka abhiye, kunguno nuweyi agajipandikaga isabho odosa mpaga oya ugubhadegeleka abhanhu abho bhalichola wambilija bhokwe, umukikalile kakwe. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga giki, “lyaga mandege udegeleke bhanhu.”

Akahayile kenako, kalanga bhanhu higulya ya guleka gubhadosa abhichabho ulupandika sabho ningi, umubhutumami bhobho, kugiki bhadule kujilanhana chiza ikaya jabho jinijo, umuwikaji bhobho.

KISWAHILI: KULA MAHINDI USIKILIZE WATU.

Hapo zamani alikuwepo mtu ambaye alilima shamba la mahindi akapata mahindi mengi kwenye familia yake. Mtu huyo, alianza kuyala mahindi hayo bila ya kuwajali wenzake aliokuwa akiishi nao kwa sababu ya uchoyo wake huo, katika maisha yake. Yeye aliacha hata kuwasikiliza watu wake hao. Ndiyo maana watu walimwambia kwamba, “kula mahindi usikilize watu.”

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hupata mali na kuanza kuwalingia wenzake katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, hupata mali hizo na kuacha kuwasikiliza wale wanaoomba msaada wake, kwa sababu ya majivuno yake hayo, maishani mwake. Yeye hushindwa kuilea vyema familia yake hiyo kwa sababu ya majivuno yake hayo ayaoneshayo kwa wenzake apatapo mali nyingi, katika maisha yake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule aliyelima shamba la mahindi akapata mengi mpaga akaacha kuwasilikiza wenzake, kwa sababu naye hupata mali nyingi na kuacha kuwasikiliza wale wanaohitaji masaada wake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “kula mahindi usikilize watu.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha kuwalingia watu wanapopata mali nyingi, katika utekelezaji wa majukumu yao, ili waweze kuzilinda vizuri familia zao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: EAT MAIZE LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE.

Once upon a time there was a man who cultivated a corn field and got a lot of corns for his family. This person started eating the corns without caring about his colleagues whom he lived with because of his greed, in his life. He stopped even listening to his people. That is why people told him that, “eat maize listen to people.”

This saying is compared to a person who looks down on his colleagues after becoming rich in his life. Such person, gets those assets and stops listening to those who ask for his help, because of his pride, in his life. He fails to raise his family well because of his pride that he shows to his colleagues after getting a lot of wealth in his life.

This person is like the one who stopped communicating with his colleagues after getting a lot of corns, because he also stopped listening to those who need his help after getting a lot of wealth in his life. That is why people tell him that, “eat maize listen to people.”

This saying teaches people to stop pride of looking down at people after getting a lot of wealth in fulfilling their duties, so that they can protect their families well, in their lives.
