Kitendawili hicho, huongelea juu ya Jua. Jua hilo, huonekana kama kwamba, linakimbia kwa mbio kuanzia asubuhi hadi jioni au machweo yake. Lenyewe huwa halisimami hata kidogo katika utekelezaji wa majukumu yake. Ndiyo maana watu huhadithiana kwamba, “huondoka kwa mbio hadi machweo – Jua.”

Kitendawili hicho, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hufanya kazi zake vizuri kila siku, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, hujibidisha kuzijali kazi zake kwa kuzitekeleza vizuri mpaga anazimaliza. Yeye hupata mafanikio mengi katika majukumu yake kwa sababu ya bidii yake hiyo ya kujali kufanya kazi zake mpaga anazimaliza vizuri, maishani mwake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana  na Jua lisilosimama kutekeleza majukumu yake, kwa sababu naye hujibidisha kuyatekeleza majukumu yake mpaga anayamaliza vizuri bila kuyatelekeza. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “huondoka kwa mbio hadi machweo – Jua.”

Kitendawili hicho, hufundisha watu juu ya kujali kazi zao kwa kujibidisha kuzitekeleza vizuri mpaga wazimalize, ili waweze kupata mafanikio mengi, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: I HAVE A RIDDLE – LET IT COME.

IT STARTS RUNNING AWAY TO ITS DISAPPEARING – THE SUN.

This riddle talks about the Sun which appears as if it runs swiftly from morning to evening or at sunset. In itself it does not stand at all in the discharge of its duties. That is why people say to one another, “it starts running away to its disappearing – the sun.”

This riddle is compared to the person who his/her jobs well every day, in life. Such person strives to take care for his or her tasks by performing well enough to complete them. He/she achieves much success in his/her responsibilities because of his/her diligence in taking caring for those duties to the point of finishing well in life.

This person resembles the Sun which does not stop in performing its duties, because he/she too strives in carrying out the daily duties to the point of completing them well without neglecting them. That is why people say to him/her, “it starts running away to its disappearing – the sun.”

This riddle imparts in people a clue on how to take care of their works by striving to fulfill them well until they finish them, so that they can have more success in their lives.

Ubhushilimija bhunubho, bhuli bho ng’wa munhu uyo osangaga machongo gaguhambila madoke ugongeja ugasimba mpaga gabhitiila ubhulihu bho madoke ayo gahambagwa. Aho bhandya uguhamba ab’ahambi bhago guyulib’ila amadoke genayo. Hunagwene bhagayomba giki, “ligashimilijiyagwa lya shima lya b’itiila.”

Ulusumo lunulo, lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agongejaga mihayo ya bhulongo ukumihayo ya nhana iyo yayombwa, umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’winuyo agawilaga imihayo iya nhana oyigalucha bhoguyongeleja na ya bhulomolomo. Uweyi agadumaga ugubhushisha uku bhanhu bhakwe ubhung’hana bho mihayo iyo agatumagwa na bhiye, umukikalile kakwe.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikikolaga nuyo oshimilijaga amashimo ga gugahambila amadoke mpaka gabhitila ubhushimu, kunguno nu weyi agawilagwa imihayo iya nhana ongeja na ya bhulomolomo. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga giki, “ligashimilijiyagwa lya shima lya b’itiila.”

Ulusumo lunulo, lolanga bhanhu higulya ya guleka gongeja bhulomolomo uku mihayo iyang’hana iyo bhagawilagwa na bhichabho, kugiki bhadule gubhashigija bhung’hana abhanhu bhabho ubhogubhambilija ugujibheja chiza ikaya jabho.

KISWAHILI: HUONGEZEWA KINA KIKALEFUKA KUPITA KIASI.

Methali hiyo, huangalia uongezeaji wa shimo kwa kulichimba zaidi. Uongezeaji huo, ni wa mtu aliyeyakuta mashimo ya kupandia migomba akayaongezea kuyachimba mpaka urefu wake ukapitiliza kiwango cha kuipandia migomba hiyo. Wapandaji walipojaribu kuipanda migomba hiyo ilitumbukia ndani. Ndiyo maana walisema kwamba, “huongezewa kina kikalefuka kupita kiasi.”

Methali hiyo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye huongezea maneno ya uongo kwenye ukweli uliosemwa, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, huambiwa maneno ya ukweli akayageuza kwa kuyaongezea uongo, katika maisha yake. Yeye hushindwa kuufikisha ukweli kwa watu watu kwa sababu ya kuongezea uongo wake huo, maishani mwake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule aliyeongezea kuchimba mashimo ya migomba mpaka yakapitiliza urefu, kwa sababu naye huongezea maneno ya uongo kwenye ukweli aliousikia. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “huongezewa kina kikalefuka kupita kiasi.”

Methali hiyo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha kuongeza maneno ya uongo kwenye ukweli walioambiwa na wenzao, ili waweze kuwafikishia watu wao ujumbe wa kuziendeleza vizuri familia zao.

ENGLISH: IT IS ADDED EXCESSIVE DEPTH.

This proverb looks at an addition of a hole by digging it deeper than it was before. Such addition was done the person who saw the planting holes and added them by digging until their height exceeded the level of planting those banana plantations. When the planters tried to plant their plants disappeared inside those holes. That is why they said, “It is added excessive depth.”

This proverb is paralleled to the person who adds false words to the spoken truth, in his life. Such person where is told the words of truth twists them by adding lies, in his life. He as a result fails to convey the truth to his people because of adding his lies to it.

This man is like the one who dug holes of the banana plantations until they exceeded the required height, because he also adds false words to the truth which he heard. That is why people tell him that “It is added excessive depth.”

This proverb imparts in people a clue on stopping adding lies to the truths which they are told by by their fellows, so that they could convey the true message to their people which is essential for their family development.

864. NCHOJI O SHIB’I AGACHOLAGA LUFU LOKWE NG’WINIKILI.

Olihoyi munhu uyo wikalaga wibhonela bhanhu bho gubhatula ukunhu wisanyaga giki alina nguzu. Lushigu lumo, umunhu ng’winuyo agikenya na limunhu ilo liganheb’a inguzu umana igiki agub’ulagwa. Wandya gulomba wambilijiwa aliyomba giki, “nzugi munigunane nagub’ulagwa.” Ab’iye b’ung’wila giki, “nchoji o shib’i agacholaga lufu lokwe ng’winikili.”

Ulusumo lunulo, lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo ali na miito gab’ub’i umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agitaga mihayo iyo ilikihamo nu b’ulodeji, wib’i, b’ushiya na yingi mingi iyo ikolile ni yiniyo. Uweyi agitulaga mumakoye ga guding’wa na gutulwa ucha mumakanza gose gose, umuwikaji bhokwe.

Alikuwepo mtu mmoja ambaye alikuwa akiwaonea watu kwa kuwapiga akifikiri kwamba ana nguzu za kumshida mtu yeyote. Siku moja mtu huyo, aligombana na mtu mwenye nguvu kuliko yeye ambaye amzidi nguzu mpaga atambua kwamba atakufa. Akaanza kuomba msaada akisema kwamba, “njoni munisaidie nitauliwa.” Wenzake walimwambia kwamba, “mtafuta maovu hutafuta kifo chake mwenyewe.”

Methali hiyo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu mwenye matendo maovu katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, hutenda maovu yakiwemo yale ya uchongezi, wizi, uzinzi, na mengine mengi yanayofanana na hayo. Yeye hujiweka katika matatizo ya kupigwa hadi kufa wakati wowote ule akikamatwa, maishani mwake.

Mtu huyo hufanana na yule aliyekuwa akiwaonea watu mpata akataka kuuliwa, kwa sababu naye hutenda maovu yawezayo kumpelekea kwenye hatari ya kuuliwa wakati wowote akikamatwa. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “mtafuta maovu hutafuta kifo chake mwenyewe.”

Methali hiyo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha kutenda maovu katika maisha yao, ili waweze kuulinda vizuri uhai wao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: THE EVIL SEEKER SEEKS HIS OWN DEATH.

There was a man who oppressed people by beating them thinking that he had muscle to defeat anyone. One day, such man had an argument with another one who was much stronger than he was. After fighting such man realized he was going to die. He began to cry out for help from people, saying, “Come and help me, I will be killed.” His associates told him that “the evil seeker seeks his own death.”

This proverb is compared to a person who commits evil deeds in his life. Such person constrains evils such as: slandering, theft, adultery, and the like. He puts himself in a danger of being beaten even to death whenever he is detained, in his life.

This person resembles to the one who oppressed others until he met the stronger one who wanted to kill him, because he also did evils to others that could lead to his death if he was caught. That is why people tell him that, “the evil seeker seeks his own death.”

This proverb teaches people to stop doing evils to others in their lives, so that they could better protect their lives enough to live happily with their societal members.

Amasala bhuli bhudula bho gwiganika na gulamula mihayo ubho bhugikalaga mumitye ya jisumva guti bhanhu. Ubhudula bhunubho, bhutiho umunyanza kunguno idadulile ugwiganika. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, “nduhu nyanza ya  masala.”

Ulusumo lunulo, lugalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agituulaga bhushilimu bho gwikanika giki alimani o masala kulebha abhiye. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agabhiganikilaga abho alihoya nabho guti bhanhu abho bhali na masala magehu kunguno ya bhushilimu bhokwe bhunubho. Uweyi agadumaga ugwidebha chiza na bhiye abho agikalaga nabho kunguno ya libhengwe lyakwe linilo, umukikalile kakwe.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikolaga ni nyanza ya gwituula giki yilina masala, aliyo itina go, kunguno nuweyi alina bhushilimu bho gwituula giki alina masala gagubhatuula abhiye kwigele lya bhanhu bha masala magehu. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga giki “nduhu nyanza ya masala.”

Ulusumo lunulo, lolanga bhanhu higulya ya guleka nhungwa ja gwituula bhutongi bho gubhahalalika abhichabho, kugiki bhadegekwe bhoyi duhu, umuwikaji bhobho. Idichiza ugubhiza na bhushilimu bho gubhadalahija abhichabho, umukikalile kabho.

KISWAHILI: HAKUNA BAHARI YA AKILI.

Methali hiyo, huongelea Bahari na Akili. Bahari ni mkusanyiko wa maji mengi ambayo huletwa na mito inayotokea sehemu mbalimbali ikiwa kila mmoja kule ulikoanzia.

Akili ni uwezo wa kufikiri na kuamua masulala mbalimbali yaliyomo vyichwani mwa viumbe hai akiwamo wanadamu.  Uwezo huo, haumo kwenye Bahari kwa sababu yenyewe hauwezi kufikiri. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, “hakuna Bahari ya akili.”

Methali hiyo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hujitia kuwa mjanja kwa kujifikiria kuwa ana akili nyingi kupita wenzake. Mtu huyo, huwafikiria wenzake kama punguani wa akili, yaani watu wenye akili ndogo kwa sababu ya ujanja wake huo. Yeye hushindwa kuelewana na wenzake anaoishi nao kwa sababu ya dharau yake hiyo, katika maisha yake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yile Bahari ya kujifikia kuwa ina akili wakati haina, kwa sababu naye ana ujanja wa kujitia kuwa na akili kupita wenzake, katika maisha yake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “Hakuna Bahari ya akili.”

Methali hiyo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha tabia ya kujiweka kimbele mbele, kwa kuwadharau wenzao, kwa lengo la kutaka kusikiliwa wao tu, katika maisha yao. Sio vizuri kuwa na ujanja wa kuwadharau wenzao.

ENGLISH: THERE IS NO OCEAN OF INTELLIGENCE.

This proverb speaks of the Ocean and the Mind of a person. The ocean is a collection of large quantities of water that is brought by rivers that flow from one place to another.

The mind on that hand, is an ability to think enough to decide on various issues which are involved in the heads of living things, including human beings. Such ability is not in the ocean because it cannot be imagined. That is why people say that, “there is no ocean of intelligence.”

This proverb is likened to a man who pretends to be clever enough to think that he has more intelligence than his fellows. He thinks of his colleagues as mentally retarded ones, that is, people who have less intelligence because of his cunning habit. He fails to get along with them because of his contempt, in his life.

This person resembles to the Ocean of ​​Intelligence that has a sense of humor while he does not have it, because he also has cleverness of considering himself as smarter than his fellows, in his life. That is why people tell him that, “There is no ocean of intelligence.”

This proverb instills in people a clue on giving up a habit of considering themselves better than others, by despising others, for the purpose of being only heard and praised by people, in their lives. It is not good to have such cunning habit that despises others.

Imbuki ya kahayile kenako, ililola inhulu na wikaji bhoyo. Inhulu ili noni iyo ilinshilimu umukikalile kayo.  Ulu munhu weyiteja aha magi gayo witega igamanaga yiza yahega kunguno ili inhegi noyi. Giko lulu, untegi ng’wunuyo, agaidumaga uguipuja. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, “gutega nhulu nhaligulile.”

Akahayile kenako kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agisagilagwa ginhu ijo adinajipandika umumakono gakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, adatumamaga bho nguzu imilimo yakwe kunguno ya gwilemba giki, agupandika duhu ijiliwa. Uweyi agisangaga ogayiyagwa ijiliwa jinijo aha ng’wakwe kunguno ya gusendamila gunhu ijo adinajidima umumakono gakwe, bho nduhu gujichola tamu.

KISWAHILI: KUTEGA NJIWA NIFUNGULIE.

Chanzo cha msemo huo, chaangalia ndege anayeitwa Njiwa. Ndege huyo, ni mjanja katika kuyalinda maisha yake kwa sababu hukwepa mitego anayotegewa kwenye kiota chake. Hivyo basi, mtegaji hushindwa kumnasa kiurahisi. Ndiyo maana watu husema kwamba, “kutega Njiwa nifungulie.”

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ategemeae kitu ambacho hajakishika mkononi mwake, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, huwa hajibidishi kufanya kazi zake kwa nguvu kwa sababu ya kujidanganya kwamba atapata tu chakula anachohitaji. Yeye hujikuta amekosa chakula hicho kwenye familia yake kwa sababu ya kutegemea kitu ambacho hana mikononi mwake, na bila kujibidisha kukitafuta.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule mtegaji wa Njiwa mwenye ujanja wa kukwepa mtego, kwa  sababu naye hushindwa kukipata kile anachokitegemea bila kukifanyia kazi kwa bidii, katika maisha yake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “kutega Njiwa nifungulie.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kujibidisha kuyatekeleza majukumu yao kwa nguvu badala ya kutumainia kitu ambacho hawajakipata mikononi mwao bila kukifanyia kazi, ili waweze kupata mafanikio mengi zaidi, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: TO TRAP A DOVE LET ME FREE.

The origin of this saying looks at a bird that is called Dove. This bird is a cunning one in protecting its life because it avoids the traps which is set in its nest. Thus, the trapper fails to catch it easily. That is why people say that, “to trap a Dove let me free.”

This saying is likened to a person who relies on something which he/she has not held in the hand. This person does not try to work hard because of deceiving him/herself that he/she will only get the food which he/she needs. He/she finds him/herself missing such food for feeding the family because of relying on something which he/she does not have in the hands, without struggling to work for it.

This person resembles the trapper a cunning Dove who failed to get it, because he/she too fails to achieve what he/she relies on without working hard, in life. That is why people say to the one that, “to trap a Dove let me free.”

This saying imparts in people knowledge on how to work hard enough to carry out their responsibilities, rather than hoping for something which they do not have in their hands, without working for it, so that they can have more success, in their lives.
