881. KENAKO KAKUNGUB’ALA.

Akahayile kenako, kalolile kajisumva ako kagitanagwa ‘kagungub’ala.’ Akajisumva kenako kikolile na b’ushiishi ako kagikala kupelanya duhu bhuli makanza. Akoyi kadalendaga ha lwande lumo, umukikalile kago. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagiwilaga giki, “kenako kakungub’ala.”

Akahayile kenako, kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo adalendaga aha kaya yakwe, umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikalaga uyunga sagala kunguno ya bhujidatogwa gutumama milimo bhokwe. Uweyi agikalaga ukoya na nzala ya gugayilwa jiliwa aha kaya yakwe, kunguno ya bhuyungi bhokwe bhunubho, bho nduhu gutumama milimo, umuwikaji bhokwe.

KISWAHILI: HAKO NI KAKUNGUBALA.

Msemo huo, huangalia kakiumbe kanakoitwa ‘kakungub’ala.’ Kakiumbe hako ni jamii ya sisimizi ambako huwa kanakimbia tu wakati wote. Kenyewe huwa hakatulii sehemu moja, katika maisha ya kenyewe. Ndiyo maana watu huambiana kwamba, “hako ni kakungubala.”

Msemo huo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye huwa hutulii nyumbani kwake, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, huwa anatembea hovyo kwa sababu ya kutopenda kwake kufanya kazi. Yeye hukumbwa na matatizo ya kukosa chakula kwenye familia yake, kwa sababu ya utembeaji wake huo, bila kufanya kazi, maishani mwake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na kungubala aliyekuwa akikimbia kila wakati, bila kutulia sehemu moja, kwa sababu naye huwa hatulii kwenye familia yake, katika maisha yake. Ndiyo maana watu wakimuona huambiana kwamba, “hako ni kakungubala.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuishi pamoja na familia zao, kwa kujibidisha kuyatekeleza vizuri majukumu yao, ili waweze kuziendeleza vizuri hizo familia zao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: THAT IS ‘KAKUNGUB’ALA (AN ANT).’

The overhead saying refers to a creature which is locally called ‘kakungub’ala.’ This creature is a type of squirrel that always runs away. It does not settle in one place, in its life. That is why people say to one another, “that is ‘kakungub’ala (an ant).’”

This saying is applied to a person who does not stay at his family, in life. This person, in turn, walks carelessly because of his reluctance to work. He suffers from famine in his family, because of his way of walking here and there without working, in his life.

This person resembles to the kakumgub’ala that ran all the time, without resting in one place, because he also does not stay at his family in life. That is why when people see him, say to one another, “that is ‘kakungub’ala (an ant).”

This saying, teaches people on how to live well with their families, by striving to fulfill their responsibilities, so that they can better develop their families, in their lives.

880. IPONDA SONI UGUGWISHA NZALA NA B’AGENI BHALIHO.

KISWAHILI: NI AIBU KUSHINDA NJAA NA WAGENI WAPO.

Ilikuwepo familia moja iliyopata wageni. Wageni hao, waliongea kuanzia asubuhi hadi jioni, lakini hawakula chakula cha kwenye familia hiyo. Mwishowe wakaaji wa kwenye familia hiyo, walianza kujisikia aibu kwa kuwakalisha njaa namna hiyo, wageni hao. Ndiyo maana walianza kusema kwamba, “ni aibu kushinda njaa na wageni wapo.”

Methali hiyo, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule asiyewajali vizuri wageni wake, kwenye maisha yake. Mtu huyo, akipata wageni huendelea na shuguli zake tu bila kuwajali watu wake hao, kwa sababu ya uchoyo wake. Yeye hukosa wageni wa kumtembelea kwenye familia yake, kwa sababu ya kutowajali kwake watu hao, maishani mwake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na familia ile ambayo haikuwajali vizuri wageni wake, kwa kupatia chakula, kwa sababu naye huwa hawajali wageni wanaomtembelea, kwa kuwakarimu chakula, katika maisha yake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “ni aibu kushinda njaa na wageni wapo.”

Methali hiyo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuwajali kwa kuwakarimu vizuri wageni wao, ili waweze kupata Baraka za kuwawezesha kuishi kwa amani na wenzao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: IT IS A SHAME TO STARVE WHEN GUESTS ARE PRESENT.

There was one family that received guests. The guests talked from morning till evening with members of that family. They however, did not eat any food of that family. Eventually the dwellers of that family began to feel embarrassed about starving in such present of those guests. That is why they began to say that, “It is a shame to starve when guests are present.”

This proverb is equated to a man who does not take good care of his guests, in his life. Such man, when he gets guests, he goes on with his business without caring about his them, because of his greed. He misses visitors in his family, because of his indifference to those people, in his life.

This person is like the family that did not take good care of their guests, by giving them food, because he also does not care about the guests who visit him, in his life. That is why people tell him that, “It is a shame to starve when guests are present.”

This proverb imparts in people a clue on how to care of their people by being kind to their guests, so that they can receive blessings that can enable them to live peacefully with one another, in their lives.

Mtu huyo, huwa anaongea maneno bila kuyafikiria vizuri sababu huwa anayageuza kila wakati kana kwamba hakuyasema mwenyewe. Yeye hushindwa kuindeleza vizuri familia yake kwa sababu ya kukosa maneno mema katika mawazo yake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na yule mlevi wa pombe aliyekosa uwezo wa kuwasaidia watu wake, kwa sababu naye hukosa mawazo mema ya kuiendeleza familia yake, katika maisha yake. Ndiyo maana watu huaambiana kwamba, “usimtegemee aliyekunywa pombe wewe nawe endelea na shughuli zako.”

Methali hiyo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuacha ulevi wa pombe katika maisha yao, ili waweze kuwaza mema ya kuwasaidia kuziendeleza vizuri, familia zao.

ENGLISH: DO NOT DEPEND ON DRUNKARD YOU JUST GO ON WITH YOUR WORKS.

This proverb speaks of alcoholism. The alcoholic person walks with difficulty and falls unconscious in his walk, due to a lack of strength to stand up and perform his duties. He lacks an ability to help his people because of his drunkenness. That is why people say to one another that “do not depend on a drunkard you just go on with your works.”

This proverb is compared to a person who speaks carelessly in his life. This person speaks words without thinking well because he always twists them as if he did not say them. He fails to provide his family with basic needs because of a lack of good words in his mind.

This person is like the alcoholic person who was unable to help his people, because he also lacks good ideas for supporting his family. That is why people say to one another that “do not depend on a drunkard you just go on with your works.”

This proverb instills in people an idea of giving up alcoholic addiction in their lives, so that they can think of good ideas which are necessary for developing their families.

Inzagamba yiniyo, igandyaga guyubatula sagala abhichayo, kunguno ya ng’hinda jayo jinijo. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagayombaga giki, “iyagamba ligatulaga ng’hinda.”

Akahayile kenako, kagalenganijiyagwa kuli munhu uyo agabhadalahaga abhiye ulu wigutaga, umukikalile kakwe. Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agalyaga wiguta wandya kubhadalaga abhanhu b’akwe kunguno ya bhusab’i ubho bhugang’winhaga ng’hinda. Uweyi agadumaga ugwikala chiza na bhiye kunguno ya libhengwe lyakwe ilo abhizaga nalyo ulu osabhaga, umuwikaji bhokwe.

Mtu huyo, akila na kushiba huanza kuwadharau watu wake kwa sababu ya utajiri wake  huo unaomletea kiburi. Yeye hushindwa kuishi vizuri na wenzake, kwa sababu ya dharau anayokuwa nayo atajilikapo, maishani mwake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na Fahali aliyepata kiburi baada ya kula majani mabichi akashiba, kwa sababu naye huwadharau wenzake anapotajirika, katika maisha yake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “Fahali huwa na kiburi.”

Msemo huo, hufundisha watu juu ya kuachana na kiburi wanapotajirika, katika maisha yao, ili waweze kuwa na unyenyekevu wa kuwawezesha kuishi vizuri na wenzao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: THE BULL HAS PRIDE.

This saying speaks of the bull and its pride. The bull is male cattle that eats green grass to the point of being proud enough to bother his fellows after his stomach being full.  He begins to beat his fellow bulls because of his arrogance. That is why people say, “the Bull has are pride.”

This saying is compared to a man who despises his fellows when he becomes successfully in life. He eats food to the point of being satisfied enough to despise his people because of his wealth which makes him proud. He fails to get along with his fellows, because of his contempt to others, in his life.

This man is like the bull that got proud after eating green grass and was full, because he also despises his fellows when he gets rich, in his life. That is why people say to him, “the bull has pride.”

This saying teaches people about giving up pride when they get rich, in their lives, so that they can have humility for living well with their societal members, in their lives.

Umunhu ng’wunuyo, agikolaga nu nswa uyo gudamalaga nzenga, kunguno nuweyi agatumama bhuli lushiku umumilimo yakwe imitale ni midododo, umukikalile kakwe. Hunagwene abhanhu bhagang’wilaga giki, “bhuli lushugu aguzengaga nduhu yalema ugushila inzenga – Nswa.”

KILA KUKICHA ANAJENGA NA UJENZI HAUJAISHA – MCHWA.

Kitendawili hicho, huangalia maisha ya mchwa. Mchwa ni kiumbe ambacho huwa kinajenga kila siku. Lakini, ujenzi wake huwa hauishi. Ndiyo maana watu walianza kuhadithiana kwamba, “kila kukicha anajenga na ujenzi haujaisha – mchwa.”

Kitendawili hicho, hulinganishwa kwa mtu yule ambaye hufanya kazi nyingi kila siku, katika maisha yake. Mtu huyo, huanza kutekeleza majukumu makubwa huku akiwa anaendelea na kazi ndogo ndogo nyingi kwa pamoja. Yeye hupata mali za kumsaidia katika kuiendeleza vizuri familia yake, kwa sababu ya bidii yake hiyo ya kuedelea kuyatekeleza majukumu yake ya kila siku, maishani mwake.

Mtu huyo, hufanana na mchwa aliyejishugulisha kufanya kazi kila siku, kwa sababu naye hujishugulisha kila siku katika kuyatekeleza majukumu yake ya kuiendeleza familia yake, katika maisha yake. Ndiyo maana watu humwambia kwamba, “kila kukicha anajenga na ujenzi haujaisha – mchwa.”

Kitendawili hicho, hufundisha watu juu ya kujibidisha katika kuyatekeleza majukumu yao kwa umakini mkubwa ili waweze kupata mali za kuziletea maendeleo familia zao, maishani mwao.

ENGLISH: I HAVE A RIDDLE – LET IT COME.

EVERY DAY IT BUILDS AND THE BUILDING IS NOT FINISHED – ANT.

This riddle looks at the life of ants. Ants are creatures that build up every day. But, their construction is usually not finished, because they continue building almost all the time. That is why people began to tell each other that, “every day it builds and the building is not finished – ant.”

This riddle is compared to a person who does a lot of work every day, in his life. This person begins to take on greater responsibilities as he continues to perform many smaller tasks together. He earns a living by helping others in the family, because of his/her diligence in carrying out the daily responsibilities in life.

This person resembles to an ant that was busy every day, because he is also busy every day in fulfilling his responsibilities that supports his family. That is why people tell him that, “every day it builds and the building is not finished – ant.”

This riddle instills in people a clue on how to work hard enough to fulfill their responsibilities so that they can have plenty resources for their developing their families, in lives.
